From MAGfest, a music and gaming con in Alexandria. Working on a We Love DC writeup for Wednesday, so, you know, check back there later.

I think this is the Hiranya Varna Mahavihar, but because it's just a three-story pagoda it doesn't get a big fancy writeup like the five-storied pagodas, no kidding.

A few quick photos from the shoot today. Better edited versions and shoot writeup over at the blog..eventually.

Shots for Mom's online crafts shop - Doodads 'N Duds - in Fairplay, CO.

Mom's shop in Fairplay, CO. was called Nook ‘n’ Cranny’s. Online it was called Doodads 'n Duds. Here's a writeup from the Denver Post, August 21, 2009. See, "6. Nook ‘n’ Cranny’s," at the end. The excerpt follows the link.

An expedition through the yard and the various outbuildings here is like a journey to the heart of your grandparents’ attic. You’d better take Grandma while you’re at it, so she can explain just what it is you’re looking at. Like that crib-type thing in the corner — oh, a trundle bed. Go figure. And this dagger-lookin’ thing? You used to pin your hat to your hair with these? Huh. There’s plenty you will recognize, too, even if it’s through the fog of memory — Flexible Flyers, a rocking horse with springs, ancient cash registers, druggists’ scales. And if you’re in the market for a printer’s tray or a bird cage, you’ll find some beauties. Here’s a stroll down Memory Lane where you can load the memories into the car and take them home — can’t beat that. 879 Steinfeldt Parkway

we dined at Chaya tonight because of this writeup in my former San Jose Mercury News colleague's food blog:

it’s a foie gras beignet ($15). Baked until it’s deeply golden brown, this flaky pastry ball looks innocent enough. But cut into it and the fatty juices from the piece of foie gras hidden inside gush out. The pastry has a subtle sweetness and is brushed with cinnamon-port wine sauce. It’s a fun nosh.

(tonight, two weeks after her meal, the price was $20. apparently suppliers are charging more because the July 1 California ban has created overwhelming demand -- and a short supply -- to enjoy the delicacy now.)

Gelf Magazine is doing a little writeup on my expensive-things-on-Amazon blog post and wanted a photo, and I didn't want a snapshot.

I followed the directions from Betty Crocker's New Boys and Girls Cookbook, published 1965.

See the writeup in Circus Parade Cake!

Write-up and (naturally) photos by yours truly.

Preparing a writeup of this - but the new Google Maps tool is simply going to be fantastic for me.

The car directions want me to take a way that I simply cannot ride well, and ignore the traditional bicycle route called "The Wiggle" that most San Francisco cyclists have come to rely on to connect the neighborhoods. It makes no sense for cars, obviously, because it involves a whole lot of unnecessary turning. For those of us who are foot-powered, though, it avoids a whole lot of unnecessary terrain.
