Here's the writeup on Boots in the Oven!
February 21, 2008. 052/366. REALLY! Tickets weren't buyable. 43,000 people signed up for a random drawing on the Texas Democratic Party website, and 200 were picked.
And what were the odds that I would be one of them? Well... one in 215, actually, so maybe I shouldn't go play the lottery just yet.
It was an AMAZING experience, to which I was NOT allowed to bring my camera! I could have cried. I'm going to do a writeup of my experiences there over on the blog tomorrow, and I'll include the link here when it's done.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sassafras
Family: Lauraceae
Lots to be learned from this Wiki writeup! It's a favorite food of the white-tailed deer and a host plant for swallowtail butterflies.
More from Wikipedia:
"During the establishment of the Virginia Colony, including Jamestown in the 17th century, sassafras was a major export commodity to England. A medicinal root thought to be effective in treating ague (fevers) and STD, with wood that was prized for its beauty and durability, sassafras was popular in England from its first import by Sir Walter Raleigh in 1602 until the 18th century.
Exploration for sassafras was the catalyst for the 1603 commercial expedition from Bristol of Captain Martin Pring to the coasts of present-day Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts, and his two ships returned with some. During a brief period in the early 17th century, sassafras was the second-largest export from America behind tobacco. Additionally, throughout history, sassafras wood has been found to be an excellent fire-starter because of the flammability of its natural oils found within the wood and the leaves."

Three photos with the same writeup....
This is my favorite open-field at sunrise location, on Mulliken Road a couple miles south of town. You can see for a couple miles, looking east, while the trees and structures (and even the telephone poles) give you elements to structure a photograph that isn't just open fields.
I've mentioned, from time to time, my shoot-reframe-refocus-shoot-repeat photographic habits. Here's an excellent example. In just over a minute I shot fifteen photographs with four distinct framings, with minor settings changes between most of the snaps. All were shot from the same location and in generally the same direction, though I panned from northeast to southeast over the session.
This is how I work, folks.

This photograph is an outtake from my 2012 photo-a-day project, 366 Snaps.
