There's a fellow on Prince Edward Island named, Gar Gillis, and in 2002, he built a village out of glass bottles (28,000 of them). He's quick to say that he never drank any of them - they were all given to him by the community when they heard what he was doing. Lot's of people were interested in having a look and he decided to open it to the public by donation. All proceeds went to the IWK Pediatric Hospital in Halifax, Nova Scotia. In September of this year, he surpassed $100,000 in donations. That's pretty cool in my books.

I liked this small part of his efforts because of the colorful bottles set against the Skyy - intentionally spelled that way because it was on the roof of a small house largely built of Skyy Vodka bottles.

If you happen to be in the area, drop in and contribute to his worthy cause. You can check him out here: www.cbc.ca/player/play/2260448835750

March of Dimes in The Woodlands on the LoneStar campus. CRI/Criterion t-shirt. We were the first table with water and fruit. We ran out of cups and started just giving the bottle, ran out of fruit! Wow, it was a huge walk this year.

There were several sites for the walk. Support for the MOD is Houston is very high. Major companies, combined with small organizations like the one I work for, lend support by manning tables and encouraging employees to walk for donations. We have fund raisers throughout the year. Each company designs their own t-shirts. Ours has our company names on the front, CRI/Criterion logos.

Bluegrass donated the t-shirts and applied our artwork. Many, many thanks to Bluegrass for their generous donation!

Mending lives one stitch at a time. Their mission is to help homeless, near homeless and low-income women, including survivors of domestic violence and previously incarcerated women achieve stable, self-supporting lives for themselves and their families.

Delano Garia and his colleagues Randy Sanchez and Torrie Bustamante created the golden globe sculpture for makeemboom and frequently work with local charities. Their work crosses a broad range of tattoo styles, graphics, posters and clothing.

Another very worthwhile cause.

Hard to photograph the 'golden globe" as soon the sun hit the gold it was dazzling. Amazing work on the gobe.

That's the date of the 2010 CupcakeCamp Montreal... the annual fest of sugary goodness for good causes!

Mau's 6-year old cousin Hannah has been suffering from cancer since she was 4 years old. This is a photo I took in our dining room for his Facebook link, him having shaven his head tonight to get sponsors for Cancer Research for Kids.

From this link,

www.stbaldricks.org/events/mypage/10830/2014,

scroll down to the bottom and watch the video to see Little Hannah and what these guys are doing in the Caymans to raise all this money.

Anyone interested in donating to this very worthy cause, here is a link to "The Big Shave" website where you may make a donation towards the St Baldrick's Foundation for Cancer Research for Children. All you need to do is click on the Donate Button and add your details.

Lastly, the St. Baldrick's Foundation is a volunteer-driven charity that funds more in childhood cancer research grants than any organization except the U.S. government. St Baldrick's (obviously a humorous name to lighten the mood) spends 87% of donations received on actual research meaning only a small percentage goes to overheads and Admin. Good thing ...

This lady's yellow shirt and cute little poodle caught my eye, as she walked by my house this afternoon. It wasn't until she passed that I could see the words on the back of her t-shirt, which is the title of this photo. Her t-shirt led me to wondering the meaning and to discovering a wonderful organization in our community and other nearby communities. I think that anyone who reads the story about these group will be impressed.

This lovely (beneath her Halloween make-up), young lady is a crew member of the Southport Lifeboat. The (completely volunteer) crew walked in the 'Southport Halloween Parade', collecting for much needed (and quite literally, 'life saving') further funds. I do hope that everyone gave generously to this very worthy cause.

I could not wait until today to have a part in this Race and OH what a time I had watching the MEN in their heels RUNNING like mad. Little did I know this one would be the WINNER.

He won a trip to Panama City but he HAS to wear the same race heels when he arrives until they get to the hotel. HILARIOUS! of his wife to add that to his prize.

He also told her he had been practicingin the heels, when she asked him WHERE? He proudly said: Through the neighborhood & up and down the drive way. If you could have seen her FACE. She said, I only wonder what the neighbors think now. FUNNY

Members from "Helping Hands Cologne e.V." offering hot drinks to people less fortunate than themselves. Bahnhofsvorplatz, Cologne, Germany.

A worthy cause, and a world wide problem at the moment.....

I thought this was a cool photo as I was taking it, but when I noticed Jack White later on, I thought it was even cooler.

Fact 1:

In some developing nations, children must walk for miles to food, clean water, and to seek medical help.

Fact 2:

Cuts and sores on feet can lead to serious infection.

Fact 3:

Often, children cannot attend school barefoot.

Fact 4:

In Ethiopia, approximately one million people are suffering from podoconiosis, a debilitating and disfiguring disease caused by walking in volcanic soil.

Fact 5:

Podoconiosis is 100% PREVENTABLE by wearing shoes.

The impact a pair of shoes has on a child can be life-changing.

A simple pair of shoes can be LIFE-CHANGING!

All the photos and paintings about water! Attended an art preview party in Toronto at the Contact Festival gallery. 38 works of art hanging in the gallery about 25 pieces will be auctioned off at the Waterkeeper Gala in April.

When you buy one of these pieces from Waterkeeper, you become part of Waterkeeper's campaign to help Canadians become the most water literate people on the planet. When you look at the piece and think about what water means to you, when you share the story of the piece, you are talking about water. Which means, you are educating people about the important role water plays in our culture.

THIS is dedicated to . . .

ST. BALDRICK'S FOUNDATION

We here at Blythe Fifth Avenue, have known about the wonderful works of St. Baldrick's for many, many years. We have participated in donating this year . . . not a huge amount . . . but as you can imagine, "every little bit helps".

ST. BALRICK'S FOUNDATION is the home of the "head-shaving event" ... raising money to cure childhood cancer.

Events transpire globally to shave heads, individually, and even "teams" ... to procure donations for this worthy cause!

Anyone can check it out at

www.stbaldricks.org

IF, by chance ... you would like to donate to a specific person, just let me know and I will give you the link :)

CONGRATULATIONS to all the Shavee Teams out there! Way to go and THANK YOU for what you do for this worthy cause. YOU are our heroes.

Ringing the bell, collecting donations placed in the red kettle for those in need. For them, every drop in the bucket counts!

this barely shows just how much effort and love went into the decorating and set-up at the silent auction!!! Thank you all for your well wishes....we raised about $2800.00 for the care center!!!!!

We took a trip to the Seaside Bird Sanctuary, in Indian Shores. India Rose had a blast making some new feathered friends. The sanctuary is a non-profit organisation, run entirely on donations by the public, it receives no government assistance. The staff are a mix of experienced professionals and dedicated volunteers. The birds here are all rescue animals that are recovering from illness or injury, or orphaned in the wild. Birds that cannot be released back into the wild become permanent residents or are transferred to permanent homes. India's favorites were the owls and the white pelicans. Mama and daddy had a soft spot for a parrot named Nemo! We loved them all, large or small. Tricia had to do a "Worthy Cause" assignment for her 7th Grade Language Arts class. She chose to do a Public Announcement to persuade people to get tested for the Bone Marrow Registry. She got an A+ on the assignment, of course. And I am so proud of her!
