This is just one of the five photos for my final project in my TIME class (Visual Language 2)--basically the entire class is based around narratives of all mediums, leaving the final to be an open assignment of our choice. This series is based around the world ending. I guess I've been watching a lot of The Walking Dead lately (so good!) and I've had this idea in my head for quite some time. If the world were to end tomorrow, what would you choose to do today? Now, I know most people say they would sky dive, go to the grand canyon, etc--but realistically, if the world was ending tomorrow, there would probably be zero instructors working that day or even pilots to fly you out to the places of your choice. It would be complete chaos, yes. Therefore, these photos are based on what you WOULD ACTUALLY do. Keep in mind, I took out the most obvious aspect of being with loved ones--because that's just a given and frankly I don't need to capture a bunch of faces smiling together and/or crying--or do I? hm...
SO, this idea formed from my dearest friend, Morgan. Coming to college, she basically brought a years worth supply of nutella to provide and with this semester coming to a close, she had all these empty jars! I don't know about you, but on the last day before the world ending...I'm probably not going to listen to what my body is telling me I should be eating, but rather what delicious items my eyes lay upon first! Everyone knows me for being such a food critic when I'm eating, so there will probably be a lot of that going on. Regardless!--I built this wire structure that I can string the bread on to so I can create this flying tower effect. Be sure to toast the bread if you're ever doing this! Who knew bread was so destructible fresh out of the bag...I hope I cleaned the bread crumbs well enough! I was really happy with this surreal look that it came out to be in the end. And thank you Morgan Hill for allowing me to smother you in chocolate syrup/wreck your kitchen, I know many wish they could have been in my position ;)
I find all these 2012 predictions pretty hilarious. So being that its way to cold to go out shooting I came up with the end of the world or at least Vancouver. :)
What is the Mayan Calendar 2012 Connection?
Unlike our familiar 12 month, 365 day Gregorian calendars, the 5,125 year Mayan long count calendar is a non-repeating, vigesimal (Base-20) countdown calendar. That is, rather than being a monthly wall chart on which to record birthdays, anniversaries and dental appointments, the Mayan long count calendar quite simply counts down from one date to another. The start date that the Mayans gave to their calendar equates to about 11 August 3,114 BC in our Gregorian calendar, and it ends on a date that approximates to 23 December 2012. There are now all kinds of theories as to what the outcome of might be when the countdown finally reaches its conclusion in December 2012, but some people already fear the worst!

As mentioned earlier I’ve been saving up for the Canon 5d Mark II and the Canon 17-40mm.
As I am on a budget, this is very expensive equipment for me and I hoped I would be able to save up in six months. I’ve been monitoring the prices on the web for a few months and about a week ago I noticed the price suddenly had gained a couple of pounds.
So I got down to our local camera store to check if it had happened there too. And yes, it had!
It’s all because of the earthquake in Japan. The price of cameras was higher and would probably go even further up, and the lenses were expected to rise as well.
So I decided to take up a small loan from my savings account (Yes, I am in fact borrowing money from myself. Fortunately I got a pretty good deal!)
So here I am and this is pretty big to me! To purchase something like this feels like a giant leap into the world of landscape photography. I’m definitely getting more and more serious about this, and it means more and more to me.
The photograph
The weather had been very nice the whole day and I early saw the potential for a great sunset. I got to the spot about an hour before the sunset and the light was just fantastic. It’s amazing how light can set a whole scene on fire!
The magnificent sunset I was hoping for actually never came, but it was a lot of clouds to play with and I’m satisfied with the result. This is not a very typical image from me, but I didn’t take it with a very typical camera either ;)
This camera is so much better to work with! The viewfinder is great and I love working with the live view function.
I got a great tip from Dimitri Vasiliou a couple of days ago. He suggested I switched to manual focus and use live view and zooming inn at 100%. And then it’s easy to get the focus spot on every time.
And it worked like a charm!
The location
This place is called Verdens ende which means Worlds end. It’s a beautiful place and it really feels like the worlds end. It takes about 40 minutes of driving from my home to get there and I’ve been thinking of shooting on this location for a few months. So it was perfect to go here on my first session with my new gear. There are tons of possibilities here and a lot of fun for a photographer. I will definitely go back one day!

Le parc national de Horton Plains est une aire protégée du Sri Lanka située dans la région des Hauts-Plateaux à proximité de Nuwara Eliya. La région est couverte par les prairies de montagne et les "forêts de nuages" , ces forêts tropicales de montagne humides et situées entre 1 000 et 3 000 mètres d'altitude, qui baignent dans une brume fréquente voire quasi-permanente..
Le plateau a une altitude moyenne de 2 200 m. Les plaines de Horton ont été classées réserve de faune sauvage le 5 décembre 1969, puis élevées au rang de parc national le 18 mars 1988 en raison de la valeur de sa biodiversité.
Les précipices de World's End (littéralement «la fin du monde») et Baker's Falls sont des lieux très fréquentés par les visiteurs.

Horton Plains National Park is a protected area in the central highlands of Sri Lanka and is covered by montane grassland and "cloud forest" (also called fog forest), which is a generally tropical or subtropical evergreen moist forest, characterized by a persistent, frequent or seasonal low-level cloud cover, usually at the canopy level.
The precipice of World's End and Baker's Falls are among the most visited tourist attractions of the park.
