2012 - Town Pavilion + City Hall mashup, LDC Kansas City, MO

.

I wrote in my last post that most of this model design was a 3D model with LEGO-friendly measurements for the builders to follow. But certain portions of the design were quicker and easier to design physically and give to the builders to copy into the final glued #legomodel. For most #Miniland models in 2019 #LEGODigitalDesigner (and to a degree LEGO Brickbuilder) has by and large replaced the need for physical prototyping- elements can be quickly duplicated, and finished digital design files can be sent to any of our global model shops to be built. .

However there is still the odd model or detail here and there that we like to (or need to) mock up with actual #LEGO pieces to see how the real world tolerances actually work.

.

This is a portion of Kansas City Missouri’s #CityHall#

Blogged about my recent candy land make-over! I had fans asking me how I manage my space and tremendous amount of cute shit I have. Here's a sneak peek into where the candy queen's cute lair.

At that point of my design career the #legoland #modelshops were generally transitioning to more digital design tools. #Brickpaper was still around but starting to quickly phase out. @LEGO ‘s own proprietary design and build software was maturing and becoming more common but not every model needed them.

.

This model was designed almost entirely in #Rhino3D with some supplemental details built as physical prototypes for the builders to incorporate. We had a dimension template for Rhino that included LEGO-friendly dimensions for bricks, plates, and studs. You can see in this pic on little dimension near the bottom for “7.7 LB” which was 7 2/3 LEGO bricks or 7 bricks and 3 LEGO plates. All the dimensions in this 3D model were massaged around to reach LEGO-compatible measurements.

.

This model also had the added challenge of needing to install in sections around a support column in the middle of #miniland, mostly hiding it in the final skyline view.

I'm so lucky. Today I finished my picture. Our aim was, to create room in our picture. I made different films of paper in it.

In the metropolitan north-west area of Copenhagen I met an old friend who opened a door to me at Glad (translates to happy). A place where handicapped people of all kinds have workshops and they get to produce TV, Radio, theater, graphics, web, food and more.

I followed the Glad-tegnestue for two weeks when they were producing a presentation and reception of their studio and products including a cookbook, graphic and interior design

#legoland #legomodels don’t just build themselves. The #TownPavilion + City Hall mashup model was worked on by a team of elite #legomodelbuilders who built stackwork (hundreds of component windows), assembled and glued the main model, and lit it up.

.

A #funfact about this model is that lighting was difficult because we really figured out just how hard LEGO’s transparent blue color (trans dark blue on Bricklink) is to get light through. More than any other transparent color it sucks up everything you can throw at it. Keep that in mind when you see it successfully illuminated a couple of posts from now.

im trying to design a logotype for my college (as an exercise for "graphic-design" course).

i wanted to express these ideas in the logo :

"rejuvination and innovation"

so i thought about something fresh that blooms and grows, (like students in the time of school), hence the usage with this font called "gorme".

all together i am not satisfied of the ideas, so i guess i'll start from scratch.

no one will understand what a leef got to do with design college

Put me down.

It was late, I was scampering for an idea while we were packing for out New Year's trip. So I picked up the cat, and he wanted nothing to do with it. Habanero had his first real cat-nip exposure that night so he was a bit spazy.... I textured the crap out of this, to hide the awful mess of packing. Bah, that's it, that's all.

Got an idea for a lamp and wanted to see how the "layout" would look. Had an empty picture frame so the prototype for a lamp...is now a picture.

I will be documenting my workprocess here on flickr!

Technical info

Location: Murano island, Venice, Italy

Lens: Nikkor 24-70mm (ƒ/2.8G) — ƒ/2.8

Shoot: ISO 1000 | 1/100s — full manual

Filters: none

Strobist: SB-900 on camera (-2 stop)

The Story:

New story from the unseen Venice project: new project "The Movie Project meets: Venetia" from the "The Movie Project meets:" series.

You already know how the Murano glasses are, from the ones you already saw at some shop all around the world.

But, how and when the glass becomes art?

This is one shoot from a professional set we made at one of the murano's furnace, to show the work process.

Here is where the glass is smoothed.

Strong hands, for a hard work. ;)

... re-posting of the picture "Ghost afraid of..." - new edit and crop: green Matrix poster-style. I'm not a big Matrix fan but sometimes pictures and the workprocess just goes it's own way, but I had this idea for a while ... This is a testhot with the nikkor 35mm f/2.0 at Photografica, Copengagen.
