Ken displayed his rosemaling artwork at the Zumbro River Art Splash.

...lots of fun to make!

I'm going for an "opposite" color scheme for the Canoness and her retinue... flipping black and white to sort of show their elevated spiritual status, assuming that makes sense.

This is definitely a work in progress. I'm having a lot of trouble with the shading. I decided to use blue instead of grey for shadows to give a blue color temperature to the model, but apparently I suck at shading.

I belong to the exhibiting group "Adhesion" which is mentored by the wonderful Angie Hughes.

We are trying new ideas to help us free up our thinking and our current project is proving rather difficult to translate into anything concrete.

The idea is to sit for two ten minute sessions in silence, and record the noises heard, using any means you chose. One ten minute period should be in a quiet envoironment, and the other in a quiet one.

These recordings have to be translated into a visual form.

Here I have bonded silk on to a cotton background, and then I have cut the silk with scissors into similar squarish shapes and glued these on to a watercolour paper background. I have turned some of the squares round so that the light catches them in different ways.

Now I have to decide how to represent the noises I heard!

Making one Brexit pin cushion is fun, having to make several is a pain.

Work in progress

The very beginning of a new exhibition piece which must be finished within the next two weeks.

It's all planned out, the fabric is bought/decorated and the designs printed.

All it needs is assembly.

It will be a very emotional piece.

A new dragonfly species for me, we visited the Basingstoke Canal which is a well known location for Brilliant Emerald. This species is wary and constantly patrols the canal usually in the middle rarely coming close to the side and so photographs were very difficult. The 300mm f4 lens with 2x converter was too sluggish with focussing and so I ditched the converter and shot at 300mm, the smaller image size meant that I cropped the image later to increase the size of the dragonfly.

Tyranid Warrior, partially assembled with other unpainted models/parts nearby. If you look closely you can see the magnets inserted inside the model.

my newest cross stitch that i am working on. i know the picture isn't great, but i remembered i keep forgetting to show this to people. it's about 3/8ths done.

As you can see there is a lot of tedious, time-consuming work involved in gourd carving. Where it has been carved out, it has been sanded smooth by hand. Some of the gourd was carved with my dremmel and other, more intricate areas with my Xacto knife.

You can also see from this photo that I am still working on sanding and carving. :)

Will post the next progress shots either tomorrow (Easter Day) or Monday.

Have a wonderful Sunday and Happy Easter to all!

Getting ready for East Bay Open studios,

new encaustic paintings and waxy drawings.

Finished ocarina will stand, vertically on the bell-shaped based and will measure approximately 16" tall. Mid-fire stoneware is heavily carved and textured. The instrument plays a full octave...the 'bell' is not functional (other than providing a base for display.

Work in Progress - 16" x 20" canvas covered in old book paper using gel medium. Acrylic paint

This is a new paintng I'm working on. It has changed already a billion times. Started out photo-realistic but now is back to square one. I am totally not a fan of the colors which will change dramatically soon. it is still really rough around the edges and lacks my typical second element which will be contained in the top circle...might be hard to see as is. Still working in large format. 168 cm X 72 cm. Or if you are a stupid american like me.. 7 feet X 3 feet. it's funny that I am rendering elements from nature while I am living in New York where such things are truly lacking. I guess it's like the ol' saying,"if you don't see what you want to see...create it. If you don't hear what you want to hear...make it...and so and so on."

Here's a brief description of my painting series I have been working on for the past 4 years...

For the past four years I have been writing a book on consciousness and developing paintings to coincide with the content of the writing. My attempt with this project is tell stories about our needs and desires to find connection and an understanding to ourselves and the world around us, be it the physical or the meta-physical worlds. I am a narrative junky that is merely generating and collecting stories that I feel pertains to this notion. The human condition be it complicated or simple at times continually fascinates me and currently in my life I'm trying to fill a personal need by exploring this endeavor. I am not claiming that it is need for all and most importantly nor do I claim to have the answers to the human consciousness for if I did that would be an unwanted responsibility.
