OK folks, I need a bit more variety, so like many others I'm looking through my 'back catalogue' and picking a shot each day that didn't 'make the cut' at the time. If nothing else it is an enjoyable bit of nostalgia.

The concrete trestle bridge was damaged during the floods of 2009, that also washed Northside river bridge away in the town and was later demolished. 14th Sept 2002

There's freight aplenty back then, with a southbound coal, brand new MGR wagons and a huge number of covhops.

DRS at Kingmoor sent ex works 20305 and 37259 to Corus steelworks Workington for an open day for friends and family on 14 September 2002 however I was on a 30742 steam charter the day before and the pair were recorded having just arrived on the Friday afternoon. The plant closed in August 2006 and is now just a scar on the landscape.

70810 works an early running 10:15 Port of Workington Colas to Aberdeen Waterloo oil tanks towards Carlisle. A tight one this as we jumped out of the car we could hear the 70 powering away from Dalston behind us, so not much time to get the best composition.

Class 40, 286, works its way through Workington. After my recent visits, I cannot work out where this was taken!

The last Cumbrian coal to be moved by train was centred on a trial at the Port of Workington, where local opencast coal was blended with imported product. Evidently it was not a success and only two or three trains actually ran. One thing the experiment did achieve though, was to extend the era of Cumbrian coal trains into the 100 te bogie hopper age. Freightliner would again bring coal trains to the Cumbrian coast in 2014/15 but that coal was not mined in the county, it was simply passing through.

Workington Bus Station in Cumbria was built for Cumberland Motor Services and opened in March 1926. It is claimed to have been the first purpose built covered bus station in Britain, making it the UK's oldest dedicated covered bus station still in use.

Originally opened in 1866 as the Lyceum Theatre, designed by George J. Smith. By around 1870 it was re-named Theatre Royal. Parts of this structure survive, although much was altered in a 1912 rebuild. It was used as a cinema from the early part of the 20th century. Around 1930 it was equipped with a Western Electric(WE) sound system. From around 1945 it was leased to an amateur theatre group - there is a covenant in place preventing them from exhibiting films.

Inside, the original horseshoe balcony and an upper balcony were removed in 1912 and replaced with the present single flat fronted balcony.

Stage dimensions: Depth: 6.8m Width: 9.3m

Proscenium width: 6.3m

Height to grid: 7m

There is an attractive proscenium arch which was also installed in 1912. The theatre is owned and operated by the Workington Playgoers. [ Info: Cinema Treasures Website]
