I'm testing out how good Media Chance Dynamic Photo is as compared to Photomatix. It turns out quite well. I have to admit, I especially love the workflow. Aligning image, and adjusting the tone curve is a breeze in this App. Photomatix has always that unfinished feel to it as an Image Editing App.

Dynamic Photo tend to produce result that's more natural than photomatix though. Undoubtedly, you can go quite radical, but from the few times that I played around with it, I find that it does a better job when I'm aiming for a natural look anyway.

The smoothing seems wider than the photomatix, which probably why it produces a more natural feel than photomatix. While photomatix can produce a more detailed and higher range result.

Aside from the workflow, Dynamic Photo seems to have a far more superior aligning algorithm. If you see here, the Dynamic Photo doesn't have as much ghosting artifact due to inalignment.

However, when there is ghosting, I like the Photomatix ghost reduction algorithm better.

disclaimer: I'm not trying in anyway to objectively compare these two products. The approach that I've taken is how can I get the best photo out of these two different products.

First, I roughly cut the pieces out of white paper, placed them on the poster (for planning), cut a little here and there for correction and then cut the final pieces out of coloured paper.

Later on, I switched from knife to scissors, because of speed and cause my knife sucks.

Compression tone mapping.

This shot was a pain in the ass. The bridge that I was on is a steel bridge with steel decks and any vehicles, even a mere bicyclist, will cause the deck to vibrate like a plucked guitar string. I ended up shooting bulb mode and firing off shots while kneeling with fingertips on the bridge deck to sense vibrations, and mentally counting off the seconds required for the bracketed exposures. (One potato, two potato,...)

just testing out stuff.. bear with me please ;)

this is what they call learning the hard way, as i see the flaws in my own shots, i do try to circumvent them using the all-powerful photoshop yet somehow i am missing some important points that could have been done even before i have taken the picture.

i am currently developing a workflow that i wish to share with my fellow photographers soon while i have already started compiling points for my "notes on portraiture" handout....

these and some other exciting things have taken my precious time away...

expect to see a lot of unacceptable photos in this stream for this process...

i hope you bear with me... thanks :)
