fireworks in Rheinaue - Bonn Beuel at worker's day (1st May)
The first Saturday of May is always special, featuring Rhein in Flammen in Bonn und am Siebengebirge at one of the most beautiful sections of the Rhine. Red Bengalese fires light up the banks of the river and the sights of Linz, Erpel, Remagen, Unkel, Rheinbreitbach, Bad Honnef, Konigswinter and Bonn. A stately fleet of 60 illuminated vessels goes in convoy from Linz to Bonn, and fireworks in different cities fascinate audiences on board and ashore. At the end, a fireworks display culminates the procession in Bonn's Rheinaue, and 60 fire pictures explode in the night sky accompanied by the symphonic wind players of the Beethoven Orchestra.

Tak w Połczynie-Zdroju wyglądał 1 maja w 1919 roku na Brunnenstrasse, dziś 5 Marca.
Poniższą fotografię, którą uważam za najcenniejszą w swoich zbiorach, dedykuję wszystkim, którzy Święta Pracy 1 Maja nie kojarzą wyłącznie z przymusowym manifestowaniem poparcia dla niedemokratycznej władzy, (jak miało to miejsce w PRL-u). Dedykuję to zdjęcie wszystkim tym, którzy rozumieją, że dzisiejsze oczywistości takie, jak wolna sobota, 8 godzinny dzień pracy, renta zdrowotna, bezpłatna służba zdrowia, powszechna edukacja, wyborcze prawo głosu dla kobiet i wiele innych (s)praw, zostało wywalczonych właśnie dlatego, że 130 lat temu, ci którym wiodło się najgorzej, zaczęli w dniu 1 maja wychodzić na ulicę. Gdyby nie europejski i amerykański ruch robotniczy końca XIX i początku XX wieku, warunki pracy prawdopodobnie wciąż wyglądałyby, jak w filmie "Ziemia obiecana" lub tak, jak obecnie wyglądają w Bangladeszu, Tajlandii, Indonezji i innych rajach nieskrępowanego kapitalizmu.
