It is with great pleasure that I would like to introduce you to the latest member of my ever growing bear family...
Meet Paddington Bear!
Now, I know what you are going to say... and the answer is, yes. Yes, I do already own several other Paddington Bears, not least of all my beloved Paddington Bear (Paddy) who was a gift from my Great Aunt when I was two years old (many years ago). However, this Paddington is different, and as my friend Mummy Marian (Marian Kloon (on and off)) says: "There's always room for one more bear."
Arriving from Merrythought in Shropshire, just in time for the release of Paddington 3 in the cinemas, is Paddington - the Movie Edition!
An exceptionally charming and true to character recreation of Paddington, who is cherished around the world for his kind nature….and fondness of marmalade sandwiches! Entirely British-made, this Paddington Bear has been designed to bring a lifetime of joy and companionship, and is the ultimate memento of the Paddington movie franchise.
Beautifully hand-crafted in Merrythought’s historic Ironbridge factory, Paddington combines the finest natural materials with four generations of the very best British teddy bear making expertise. His intricate design and friendly expression accurately and beautifully capture the personality of the movie character. He is made of rich-mahogany woven mohair plush and soft wool felt. Paddington is dressed in a gold-trim pure wool felt hat, along with a replica of his iconic duffle coat, featuring wooden toggle detailing. He is finished with an endearing hand-stitched smile and accompanied by Paddington’s famous ‘Please look after this bear. Thank you.’ luggage tag and ‘Wanted On Voyage’ leather suitcase.
Created by Merrythought as a Special Edition, Paddington - the Movie Edition is individually numbered as part of a limited worldwide release. I am fortunate enough to have number 18.
DADDY: "Are you settling in well, Edgar and Benjamin?"
EDGAR: "Oh yes, Daddy!"
BENJAMIN: "Thank you Daddy!"
DADDY: "That's good, my darlings! I am pleased to hear that."
BENJAMIN: "It's especially lovely when we get to take tea together."
EDGAR: "And enjoy such delicious macarons!" *Licks lips with cute little pink bear tongue.*
BENJAMIN: "Grumbly tummy, Daddy! Grumbly tummy!" *Rubs tummy vigorously.*
EDGAR: "Grumbly tummy, Daddy! Grumbly tummy!" *Rubs tummy vigorously.*
DADDY: "Oh dear!"
The theme for "Looking Close on Friday" for the 17th of January is "plush toys", which is the perfect theme for me, as I have a lovely collection of soft plush bears who quite enjoy being in front of my camera and under my lens. Both made by Merrythought Bears in Ironbridge, Shropshire, Edgar and Benjamin are the two latest additions to my ever burgeoning bear family. I hope you like my choice of bears for this week’s theme, and that it makes you smile.
This beautiful Willow Pattern nursery tea set was made in England by the Shell China Company in the 1920s. It features four cups and saucers as well as a tea pot, coffee pot, milk jug and sugar bowl. Each piece is gilt edged and decorated with the Willow Pattern in blue, just like the life-size equivalent. It has two sister sets: a 1920s Shell China Company nursery rhyme tea set that I was given as a gift some years ago by a close friend who knows I collect nursery ware and children’s tea sets and a faerie tale set from the 1930s Shell China Company faerie tale tea set that I have built up from various sellers over time.
Handmade at Merrythought in England from warm-gold tousled mohair plush, Edgar is a cheerful companion who has terracotta pure cotton velvet paws, and wears a delightful floral cotton bow tie. He is number 2 of a limited worldwide edition of 200.
Benjamin is made by Merrythought in England too. A friendly character, he has been handmade from soft, caramel-coloured mohair plush featuring a chocolate-coloured base that beautifully complements his pure wool felt paws. He wears a traditional, satin-lined waistcoat made from the finest British tweed and secured with brass studs. He is number 110 of a limited worldwide edition of 150.
Lips smack and tongue licks.
PADDINGTON: "Delicious! Delicious! A capital idea, even if I do say so myself."
More lip smacking and tongue licking.
PADDINGTON: "Whoops! Oh, no you don't! Please come here and don't roll away like that."
Even more lip smacking and tongue licking.
DADDY: "Paddington? Paddington darling, where are you?"
PADDINGTON: "Here I am Daddy!"
DADDY: "Oh! There you are!"
PADDINGTON: "Oh! Daddy!" *Raises hat.* "How do you do!"
DADDY: "Paddington darling, what are you doing?"
PADDINGTON: "Well, you did say that after my long trip here, that I should make myself at home."
DADDY: "I did, Paddington darling. But with what is... or rather, was... one of my precious jars of homemade cumquat marmalade?"
PADDINGTON: "Daddy! I have a very grumbly tummy!" *Rubs tummy vigorously.* "Besides, no house is a home without a jar or ten of good quality homemade marmalade."
DADDY: "Oh!"
PADDINGTON: "Or a little bear to eat it!" *Licks lips with cute little bear tongue before smiling lovingly at Daddy.*
DADDY: "Oh!"

Chink! Thump! THUD! Rumble... rumble... rumble..
PADDINGTON: "Oh! Excuse me!"
DADDY: "Goodness what is all that noise?"
PADDINGTON: "Don't worry, Daddy! It's just me." *Raises hat.*
DADDY: "Oh! Paddington!"
PADDINGTON: "I just bumped into the bowl of oranges and I think I scared it, because all the oranges rolled away. I hope I didn't cause it any offence."
DADDY: "I'm sure you didn't, Paddington darling. But what are you doing here? I thought you had gone to Mummy Marian's (Marian Kloon (on and off)) for breakfast using the magic portal."
PADDINGTON: "Oh I did, Daddy! Mummy Marian made me a stack of marmalade sandwiches. They were delicious!" *Licks lips.*
DADDY: "Oh I'm sure they were, Paddington darling. Mummy Marian makes lovely sandwiches."
PADDINGTON: "It's just that..."
DADDY: "What, Paddington darling?"
PADDINGTON: "Well it's just that I find your cumquat marmalade is much sweeter than Mummy Marian's orange marmalade."
DADDY: "Sweeter? I would have thought it was more bitter. Then again, perhaps bears' taste buds are different to people."
PADDINGTON: "Be that as it may, I've come back to enjoy some more delicious cumquat marmalade, Daddy."
DADDY: "But you've had breakfast already, Paddington darling!"
PADDINGTON: "Well, if a bear can have two birthdays, which I do, I don't see why I can't also have two breakfasts, Daddy. So I'll just settle down and you can bring me another jar of delicious sweet cumquat marmalade. Grumbly tummy, Daddy! Grumbly tummy!" *Rubs tummy vigorously.*
DADDY: "Well, I'd love to Paddington darling, except..."
PADDINGTON: "Except Daddy?"
DADDY: "Well I don't have any cumquat jam, I'm afraid, Paddington."
PADDINGTON: "What, Daddy? No cumquat jam?"
DADDY: "No Paddington darling. You have eaten it all!"
PADDINGTON: "Daddy! I would never have done that!" *Offended.* "It must have been some other bear with a penchant for cumquat marmalade!"
DADDY: "Well, whether it was you or some other bear, there is no cumquat marmalade left."
PADDINGTON: "But I have a grumbly tummy, Daddy! Grumbly tummy, Daddy! Grumbly tummy!" *Rubs tummy vigorously.*
DADDY: "Well, I was just about to cut up some oranges and make some orange marmalade."
PADDINGTON: "What is this, Daddy?"
DADDY: *Reluctantly.* "It's my last jar of ruby grapefruit marmalade, Paddington darling."
PADDINGTON: "Well, I'll just take this for now until your orange marmalade is ready to eat."
DADDY: "But Paddington darling..."
PADDINGTON: "Needs must, Daddy! Grumbly tummy, Daddy! Grumbly tummy!" *Rubs tummy vigorously.*

A whole bunch of Home Tweet Home Bird Houses made out of fabric. And they are quite tall too, about 23cm in height. They are free standing, but have a wee loop on the roof top so they can hang, too.
This is one of my new Lilla Lotta Village Houses, I have been hand making.
This is the UpSide Down Apple House, and reminds me so much of Christmas.
It is quite large too, over 20cm tall and 13cm wide.
I am determined to create a whole village

I like to call them Microbes :) They're too fun to make (hand stitched) and a good way to try out new designs! I'm going to "resize" some of these to a normal baby shoes size.
The old ones are all gone as gifts, these will be available as soon as we take pictures (Insert here: Waiting for the Sun / Doors).
I started a couple of wool felting projects last winter and have just picked it up again this week. I'm working on a heart. I'm considering trying to sell them for a fundraiser for The Ride for Missing Children.

For Pitman's pirate-themed fourth birthday.
Made from a pattern in this book, though modified for fewer feathers and glue-gun applications.
Seems I may need a whole new set for softies!
Yes, it's a bit early to be thinking of Christmas ornaments. Or is it? Here it is almost September already.
I made one for a swap on Swap-Bot, and an extra one (see my Flickr profile for more information).
The theme for this month was hearts (last month it was candy).
Recognized as a traditional Scandinavian Christmas decoration (but usually made with paper) this woven-heart basket is made of 100% wool felt.
This purple and green ornament is hand-embroidered using the blanket stitch around the edges. It has a bright green ribbon hanger.
some birds that i have made to sell at a local show. now i need to start working on the other things...
