This week's theme for Mosaic Montage Monday was Woodwork. Some old craftsmanship with a new coat of paint. HMMM!

Woodwork shop in Venice. Here they rework the submerged wooden piles into furniture and artwork after drying them for 18 months.

You can see the canal water in the window. The water level is almost at floor height!

One of my 'other' hobbies is woodworking. The wood shavings above should be very familiar to anyone who has ever used a handplane. On the right of the frame is the front of my Bailey/Stanley No. 6 fore plane (in case you were curious). HMM!

For the last Macro Mondays working the themes each day with the renaissance, i knew the face Pareidolia would have to come from wood, in renaissance time the woodworkers finding a face in the wood grain the first thing to determine was was it good or evil. if evil the wood was burnt if good then the craft went on to make something knowing the guarding was with them.

The Woodworking Shop

I love spending time in my own workshop, taking my creation from imagination to reality. I watch an item, that once existed only in my head, take form and become real. I can just imagine the craftsman who used this shop. Each day he would use his skills to turn a shapeless piece of wood into an object of beauty or function. I envision him working here. The hand plane producing ribbons of fragrant wood that fall to the floor like a leaf dropped from a tree. Soft light from the window not only illuminates his work, but gives opportunity to observe the world going on outside the workshop.

For Macro Mondays theme "Edge", this is a small woodworkers square, used to mark straight lines on a piece of wood. Basically a straight edge at right angles to the edge of a board.

Wood from a Jackfruit tree.

I had probably one of my hardest woodland wanders to date last Friday. It rained all morning from moderate, to heavy downpour, I never had a break. To top that the bracken was extra thick, which was surprising given the dry summer we’ve just had. I was back in my favourite woodland, the first time since April and although I’ve caught this wood in the height of summer last year the undergrowth was much heavier going. Every composition was the same process, stand the tripod, balance the umbrella, unpack the camera, etc etc. Just after I took this photo I was exhausted and soaked right though my waterproofs 3 hours into my morning, I was ready for home. I plonked myself down with my back against a pine tree with the umbrella and tripod as a makeshift shelter and had a coffee. Now with the energy to head back I slowly made my way back through the wood to the car, taking the odd image as I went, tired but happy with my mornings work.

A green woodworking tool for you laymen.

I wanted to challenge my tilt skills, so I set the aperture to the widest it could be and adopted an angled view on the clamp. I have one photo focused on the screws, but this one is focused on the closest part of the wood. I think I got it.

Traditional air drying. Recently, I do not see it much.

At last I'm back to the workshop after a break following an incident involving woodturning, inattention, blood, stitches and bandages.

This is the result; a jewellery box in sycamore and something I scrounged that's mahogany-like. Corners simply mitred and strengthened with slip-feathers.
