The Taj Mahal (ताज महल) "crown of palaces", is a white marble mausoleum located on the southern bank of the Yamuna River in the Indian city of Agra. It was commissioned in 1632 by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan (reigned 1628–1658) to house the tomb of his favourite wife of three, Mumtaz Mahal. It is one of the Seven Wonders of the World.

Construction of the mausoleum was essentially completed in 1643 but work continued on other phases of the project for an additional ten years. The Taj Mahal complex is believed to have been completed in its entirety in 1653 at a cost estimated at the time to be around 32 million Indian rupees, which in 2015 would be valued at around 52.8 billion Indian rupees ($827 million US). The construction project employed around 20,000 artisans under the guidance of a board of architects led by Ustad Ahmad Lahauri. The domed marble tomb is part of an integrated complex consisting of gardens and two red-sandstone buildings surrounded by a crenelated wall on three sides.

The Taj Mahal is regarded by many as the best example of Mughal architecture. It is one of the world’s most celebrated structures and a symbol of India’s rich history. Designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983, the Taj Mahal attracts some 3 million visitors a year.

I know this photograph has been taken and shown a thousand times, okay, may be more, but I just could not help myself, it is so amazing to me. This place is in Arizona, and it is a sight to behold. If you have never seen it, you will not be disappointed.

The bright blue sky above the Red Canyon walls and the solar reflection create an impressive natural marvel of geological patterns and swirling colors.

When the mind ventures into realms beyond the ordinary, to be met with a vibrant display of swirling colors..

It's like the universe whispering secrets and revealing truths.

We usually don't make a point of going our for an Aurora shoot in our neck of the woods as it's not that spectacular and usually occurs in the middle of the night. However, last night promised to be a bit more intense and I shot this just after dark. You cant really see it this way with the naked eye - all you see is perhaps the slightest hint of color and haziness. A longer exposure in camera is needed to bring out the details. The real light show did occur later at night as expected, when we were already in bed, but I'm happy to have seen this. I think it's one of the many wonders of our world!

One of the many daisies in my lawn.

Without a doubt, The Taj Mahal is one of the most divine places my wife and I have visited. This image was taken shortly after sunrise and before the hoard of tourists invaded the compound. The Taj was one of many wonders we were lucky to experience during our visit to India in 2019.

Geologically, Table Mountain is primarily composed of sedimentary rocks. Sandstones produce its steep and jagged cliff faces consisting of thickly layered quartzitic sandstone, very hard and resistant to erosion.

The mountain as we see it today is only about 60 million years old.. still a venerable age compared to that of the Alps (32 million years) and the Himalayas (40 million years) bearing in mind the age of the rock itself (540 million years).

Memories of the Taj Mahal. I visited India and the Taj Mahal in 2020. It is simply the most beautiful and breathtaking architecture and fully justifies it's status as one of the seven wonders of the world. It was built in 1631 by the emperor Shah Jahan to immortalise his wife Mumtaz Mahal who died in child birth. The marble is inlaid with precious stones - agate, turquoise, bloodstone, cornelian mother of pearl, jasper, malachite and lapis lazuli, which is unique to Agra.

The Mighty Fraser River on an absolutely enchanting winter evening.

The sky, water & ice reflections were completely mesmerizing.

As the sun disappeared below the horizon, a most incredible colour display began....a wide range of colours, from warm sunset yellows and oranges, to combinations that included indigo blues, stunning pinks and reds, and for the grand finale the sky glowed in twilight's deepest purples.

People were coming from all directions to witness this surreal winter sky-show.

Unimaginable, breathtaking view. The sound of the crashing water was loud, yet very soothing.

To me, it appeared heart shaped, and the eroded stone bowl, combined with the water spray looked like a baby in a womb.

Thank-you for all the overwhelming support and many friendships.

An amazing sight seeing The Great Wall of China stretching out into the distance as far as the eye can see.

The Great Wall of China became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in December 1987. The wall is the longest man made structure in the world, with a total length of about 13,170.7 miles.

Made over the course of hundreds of years, the wall was built by over 6 different Chinese dynasties, and is over 2,300 years old.

The wall is made of cement, rocks, bricks, and dirt. It was finished in 1878 and it was meant to protect the north of the empire of China from enemy attacks.
