St. Wolfgang is a market town in central Austria, in the Salzkammergut region of Upper Austria, named after Saint Wolfgang of Regensburg. It is on the northern shore of the Wolfgangsee lake (close to the towns of Strobl and St. Gilgen, both in the State of Salzburg) at the foot of the Schafberg mountain.

Wolfgang Laibs Kindheit reist mit seiner Familie nach Afghanistan, Indien, Iran und der Türkei in ihm ein lebenslanges Interesse an nicht-westlichen Kulturen. Bevor er Künstler wurde, studierte er Medizin, kam aber zu dem Schluss, dass das Feld den Körper auf Kosten der Seele behandelte. Für Laib ist die Kunst eine Form der transzendenten geistigen Heilung und Nahrung. Natürliche Materialien sind für den Künstler wichtig, der mit Bienenwachs, Milch, Blütenstaub und Reis arbeitet und einfache Formen schafft, die auf einer universellen Ebene kommunizieren wollen.
