A trip down memory lane puts me back in the Lake District in the UK, where in this case, the swans were abundant, the treats were few and wishful thinking was abundant.
"Wishful thinking is one thing and reality another."

Some days are more about wishful thinking - especially when you are late!

The stars sing about you brightly
I know because they whisper about you nightly
You dream about the ultimate embrace
And the moment you see my face
An impactful moment it will be
Just you
Just me
Our worlds will collide
Nothing to hide
As we embrace for impact.
A happy and blessed 2018 to you all!
Before the pandemic hit, we had planned a big bucket list trip to CA and OR for early June. For me, that meant hours pouring over the atlas (still prefer the old fashioned way) in addition to internet browsing. Our first NP was going to be Yosemite, which I visited once before in 1970. This section of the atlas page (under 2 inches both directions) is part of my wishful thinking that we can actually get there next year. Now we're hoping, if we do go, that there will be trees left to admire in both states.
the paper texture is pretty cool when it is viewed closeup
A snowy night at the Hinsdale, Illinois train station from almost 2 years ago, when we used to get snow during the winter season.
Wishing for a couple feet of the white stuff right about now!!

From back in the day when we could go on holiday.
This was a good day. On bad days you can't see the road.
Today WAH are visiting Celebrate With Cake because two special people have birthdays today ♔ Georgie R's and HRH Queen Elizabeth ll

When blown there's a belief that the dandelion seeds carry your thoughts and desires to loved ones or that the wish will come true if all the seeds fly away.
A couple of years ago, we were returning home from a trip to western Canada via the Icefields Parkway. We hoped to see the spectacular views as advertised but much of the road at the higher elevations had heavy snow and was obscured by cloud or fog. Lot's of wishful thinking about catching a break actually paid off, as it did here!
This autumn and the winter so far has been the greyest since records began. We've had a lot of mist and fog the last few days too. This photo was taken with my phone before sunrise this morning as the mist started to drift in again.... HSoS!
Just call it Wishful Thinking ........

Well, it's not 11-11, a pair of numbers that seem to pop up regularly as I go about daily routines.
Thinking that might be a sign ( :-) we've purchased a couple of lottery tickets on a few of the past November 11ths and even included the number 11 in the mix.
I've come to realized 11-11 doesn't seem particularly lucky, we still haven't won anything, but dang that number still has a habit of appearing at weird times.
So that's why I posted this, it's not 11-11 but I like it anyway.
This morning we had freezing rain. Now it's just rain. Tonight it will be snow. Either way, its a dreary wet day, which is making me think of solitary beach walks and sunny days. Between this couple and ourselves, no other footprints were visible in the sand on September of 2021, when I captured this photo. Eventually it was just the two of us and it seemed like we were the only people in the world.
Six months ago we planned an amazing 2 week bucket list trip to CA and OR, and we should have been flying west as I type this.
Due to the pandemic, we had to (hopefully) postpone our plans. This photo was taken a year ago when I was flying to Phoenix for my niece's wedding (so happy for them that it wasn't this year). The silver lining is that I will get to see my granddaughter more than I would have!
Chesnee, South Carolina is experiencing visible decline due to a mix of economic hardship, population loss, and aging infrastructure. The town has struggled to replace jobs lost from past industries, leading to limited employment opportunities and reduced income levels. Younger residents often move away for better prospects, leaving behind an aging population with fewer resources. Vacant homes and underused buildings contribute to a sense of neglect. Public investment remains low, and amenities are limited, making the area less attractive to newcomers. These combined factors have gradually eroded the town’s vitality, leaving it in a persistent state of stagnation and decay. Photographed with a Canon AE-1, 35mm f/3.5 SC lens on Ilford FP4+ (rated at 100 ISO) and developed in HP-110 1+63. Scanned using VueScan and Epson 4870 scanner.
Call prayers what you will; whispers of hope, asking why this? why now?, pleas for help, for direction, for what to do next; words in place of tears, reaching out, opening internal doors, seeking cracks in the chaos where light might yet be found. I remind myself to take time out from the wringing of hands, the isolation of despair, shock caused by the news, to spend at least part of the day in the garden surrounded by flowers, thinking whatever positive thoughts I can muster while in suspended disbelief, renewing my faith in the justice of karma.

Once,it was the Berlin Wall - Now, it’s the longest open-air Gallery in the world. The East Side Gallery takes a section of the Berlin Wall and makes it an open-air Gallery.
Immediately after the "Wall of Shame" came down,118 artists from 21 countries began painting the East Side Gallery.
Berlin was a divided city for nearly thirty years;the two parallel walls dominated by watchtowers, guards, barbed wire and the zone between them, called "the death strip",became history.
East and West Berliners made history that night of November. They climbed over the concrete walls, crowded through the narrow border crossing points and retook their city in its entirety.Touching were the moments of this historical event when East & West Berlin reunified.
However, after the Iron Curtain came down more and more walls are going up in the world. They come in steel and concrete, with watchtowers and barbed wire.
The only frontier that has ever existed is the self.
Man is a "hive minded" species by nature.
I recall Robert Frost's poem "Mending Wall" and wonder if
Good fences make good neighbours ...
"Before I built a wall I'd ask to know
What I was walling in or walling out,
And to whom I was like to give offence.
Something there is that doesn't love a wall,
That wants it down." ...
Why all those new divisions ?
Why Mankind is building separation barriers in an era when Globalisation was supposed to tear the barriers down ? History shows that walls rarely do what they set out to do.
“We build too many walls and not enough bridges.” Isaac Newton
Well,I know in my heart of hearts that this is classic Wishful Thinking or an informal Logical Fallacy as subconscious desires appear through assumptions of truth ...
Yet,I will never give up hoping for Peace throughout the World ...
* Just some thoughts of superannuated idealism ...
* We should care more about the substance of the world than its shadow ...
Wishful thinking...
The weather is bleak today, grey and windy, but still no signs of snow. Winter has been shy for weeks, emerging only in the early morning with signs of frosting on leaves and branches. We long for more, for the white purity of a comforting snow mantle on the fields and roofs.
This picture was taken earlier this year, more than 11 months ago, on one of the rare days it snowed in our area. The snowflakes brought their magic, floating all around and filling up the cold misty air. Let's hope we will get a white Christmas this year!
If only my legs were a bit longer, I could have taken one of these cars for a ride...
