Hello again,
It's almost a month ago since I was on Flickr. The reason was that my Macbook Pro crashed. The first few weeks I tried to repair the MBP myself, with information I found on the internet but the problem wasn't based on a software issue. The next step was sending it towards an apple store but the costs of repairing a two year old laptop were to high in my opinion. The result? I bought an iMac.
Secondly, I was obliged to send my newly acquired Sigma 85 1.4 back to the service center of the company. This due to the lack of autofocus. The lens just stopped focussing from one day to another... :)

Suddenly, everything clicks. And swipes. And scrolls. And the incredibly thin Apple Wireless Keyboard sits on your desk surrounded by nothing but glorious space.

Minimalism has grown a lot over the past few years. The natural light and the empty space seem to communicate more than the space that is filled up with something.
People say that you have clearer thought patterns when there is less around you. Others say you just need a clean, minimal workspace. Well it comes down to personal preference and what type of person you are in the end. Some people like to have a messy work area and others totally hate it when there is anything out of place.

I really need to start to use my little Apple wireless keyboard more than I presently do!

My recent acquisition is the Chumby One, a bed-side WIFI-connected, touchscreen-equipped device that runs Linux on a ARM9-based CPU. Woot.com offered it for $50 and I couldn't resist.
So far it has been dutifully waking me up each morning, and entertaining me with fun little Flash widgets. The built-in speaker sounds much better than its diminutive size suggests. This device double duties as an internet radio tuner, fulfilling a role previously served by a Turtle Beach Audiotron internet radio I used to own and love.
I'm pleasantly surprised that Chumby supports many USB devices out of the box: shown here is a Rii Mini wireless backlit keyboard / touchpad connected to the Chumby with the Linux terminal displayed. I've tried a Nyko Net Connect USB ethernet adapter (for Nintendo Wii, based on the ASIX AX88772 IC) and Chumby picked up that connection also. I've also successfully SSH'd into the Chumby as well.
I may try plugging my USB TV tuner to see what Chumby will find.
It seem Chumby treats the "snooze" button as an "enter" keystroke.
Moved the dividers slightly, got the nMP to fit better. Still researching for a similar style backpack, but one with a spot for a 15.6'' MMT Monitor2Go FHD monitor.
I did order a Pelican 1560 case on Amazon last night. Should be here Monday, thanks to Prime shipping.

Love this monitor, especially on a Humanscale M8 arm. Can't wait till Apple updates it with a higher resolution and updated ports on the backside.
I am still amazing how far technology has come. It is a curse and a blessing. Thanks to my husband, I have almost every apple product on the planet!
Trying to figure out a carrying bag for my nMP for when i travel. I remembered when i was setting up my nMP that i had a old camera bag collecting dust in my closet.
The bag is a Lowepro Flipside 400 AW. I've had this bag for years, haven't used it much at all with my gear usually in a Pelican 1510 case or my Ari bag.
Its got a front compartment, long/tall enough to hold a Apple wireless keyboard and loads of accessories (usb/TB cables, power cable, surge protector). Bright side to camera bags are they're made to hold lots of random items and most come with rain covers.
But for now this will do until i decided on something permanent. I want something that has a laptop spot so i can bring a portable monitor. Looking at a few other bags/cases at the moment.
Another carrying bag/case i'm looking at is a Pelican 1560 case. I have a 1510 for my camera gear and another Pelican case for my guns , i definitely trust them.
Whichever bag/case i purchase, i'll end up ordering a Sea to Summit dry bag to go with it, don't want any tiny particles to make their way into the nMP while its in travel (pelican cases with pick-n-pluck foam can shed little bits of foam).
Might end up buying a bag for now and the case somewhere down the road.
This past week has been an extremely productive one. Lots of writing, thinking and creating. So much fun. I also bought an Apple Wireless Keyboard and wireless Mighty Mouse which are so pleasurable to use.
Here I am writing on said wireless keyboard which is paired with my iMac (out of view). On the PowerBook is the superb MarsEdit 2 (trial). I have the fully paid-up version on my iMac which I purchased just a few days ago. Best_software_discovery this year so far :)
It's just so awesome!
Aluminium iMac 2008 revision "Penryn"
24" 2.8Ghz 2GB RAM 500GB HDD
EDIT: 11-09-10
I added an extra 2GB of RAM so I now have a maximum of 4GB. I've only noticed minor performance improvements in a couple of programs and in a few areas of general computing. I'm left somewhat disappointed in the minimal speed bump.
EDIT: 20-09-2012
The 500GB WD HDD died so I had it replaced with a brand new Seagate 1TB HDD.
EDIT: February 2013
Added an extra 2GB of RAM for a combined 6GB.
EDIT: March 2016
Replaced the 1TB HDD for a 240GB SSD. Revised specs are now thus:
"Early 2008" iMac 24" 2.8GHz 6GB RAM 240GB SSD
UPDATE 2022:
Still using it. A few years back I upgraded the CPU to 3.06GHz, which was salvaged from Apple's top-of-the-line iMac from their 2008 range. The difference in performance is un-appreciable.
UPDATE July 2024:
It finally died in November or December 2022. I suspect the PSU failed. It's just a matter of replacing said part but there's no point. It's been a great computer that served as my daily driver for 14 years. I'm on PC now (reluctantly) and it's alright, but I miss using a Mac. Hopefully I will get one soon.
Treated myself today and went to the Apple Store. Purchased a wireless keyboard and magic mouse.
Also picked up the rechargeable batteries because they both really suck up battery life quickly.
I had the regular Apple USB keyboard and mouse and hated both of them. The standard Apple keyboard is too long (because of the numeric keypad) and gets in the way when using my mouse. And the basic apple mouse just straight-up sucks for too many reasons to elaborate here.
Stopped then picked up the wrong pen when it came to writing 'Cockpit'; plus, the page was curling at the top-right (hence the pencil-weight). Going down to London tomorrow perhaps to ask these questions to someone; wish me luck.
