#New

Something old, something new, and no, I'm not going to marry ;) The old part first: it's the crystal beads. My Mom, magrit k., recently went through old, long-unused things and found this crystal bead necklace. She asked me if I wanted to wear it, and since I love some bling from time to time, I said, "Yes!". This leads us to the new part: the jewellery wire. The necklace had been strung and tied classically on a jewellery thread which was pretty much worn and frayed with use. So I bought jewellery wire just before Christmas and made a new necklace with the beautiful old glass beads.

It's a single photo illuminated from above by a natural light photo light, from the left and right with LED lamps (the left lamp equipped with the yellow bottle cap "filter"), and a handheld flashlight to highlight the new part: the wire. The background colour is from a huge peach-coloured amaryllis blossom that had just fallen off its stem and was already placed on the table, waiting to be photographed. Processed in DXO PL7, Color and Analog Efex, and with finishing touches in LR with the Primary Color sliders.

Wishing you a Happy, healthy, peaceful 2024, dear Flickr friends!

Happy Macro Monday, Everyone!

The 0.12-inch (32 mm) diameter wires are spaced 3.0 inches (7.64 mm) apart and parallel to one another. They serve as a "see-through" barrier on a backyard deck.

Swallows are so special, they travel across our world, feeding on the very insects we don't want! Stay safe beautiful birds!

An old storm fence and a sand dune was just fine for the day.

The Atlantic Ocean and abundant sunshine satisfied this Snowy Owl's desire to have a long rest.

Wire, the next best thing to duct tape.

On the wire that imprisons us all

A final drip waits to fall

A drip of love, now that's lost

A drip of fate, as we pay the cost

Of the price of our dreams

As the rain, like tears, down it streams

Down from the infinite, illusionary skies

Down from our broken, empty eyes

Filling the prison in which stand

Soaking with blood , freedoms, now cold land

As we catch the tears that fall

In this life, that imprisons us all

The city of Ghent in Belgium is alive with festivities during the festive season. If you look up, the festivities disappear and you're back in the city, in touch with reality.

A l'occasion des fêtes de fin d’année, à Gand en Belgique, la ville est très animée par de nombreuses fêtes. Si on lève la tête, la fête disparait et on retrouve la ville quotidienne connectée à sa réalité.

I had dialed down the exposure composition for a previous shot of white flowers ( possibly Queen Anne's Lace ) and not reset it for the pole shot with the wires . Panic not as it gave me this splendid silhouette - although far too late for SSC silhouettes of last week !!

Caught the "8" Empire Builder as it crosses the Mississippi river at Hastings, MN a few years ago. The highway bridge in the background has since been replaced. But all those poles are still there.

IF you had difficulties finding this photo, and my other recent ones, it is because Flickr's Activity Feed is not functioning for many of us. They are aware of the problem and say they are working to fix it. In the meantime please stop by to check on my status. Thank you.

The route along Algonquin Park's highway 60 is very scenic and constantly changes with the seasons or the light. There are many photographic opportunities but often telephone poles or wires get in the way. I liked this scene with early morning frost on the ground, low lying mist, and colorful trees in the back ground. To get it, I was perched on my haunches on the steep side of a very wet looking ditch while trying to shoot under the overhead wires. It was shot at f14 but I should have gone a bit smaller for more background detail.

When I saw this chap he was struggling to get a wire off from round his leg. He tried to run away but seemed to be in pain standing on his leg but not wanting to fly. I thought of the David Attenborough films showing the damage such wire is doing to nature and our environment. ........ I know, he's just a seagull!!
