A view of the lakes at Nene Park with great clouds here and there in the sky. The embankment is brimming with winter colours but the reeds and grasses along with the overhanging trees just made for a nice relaxed scene I thought. I was drawn to the grasses and how the looked to be overcrowded on the water.

I really like the output from the tiny Cassar 50mm - should use it more often but the need for speed takes me more often than it probably should! The lens has the capability of resolving fine detail wide open whilst also being quite low contrast so shots can appear a little soft, kind of 'organic' and leave plenty of headroom for PP. It produces 'soap bubble bokeh' in certain scenarios but can also give smooth backgrounds. Despite having a very small front element it can be very flare prone, as you can see here :-) It's an interesting alternative to the usual suspects if speed isn't a priority.

Sous l'étoile calme,

Ton doux souvenir demeure,

Noël en mémoire.

Beneath the quiet star,

Your sweet memory lingers,

Christmas in the heart.

A year ago, it was considerably colder and the fire in this image was a welcome respite from the frosty air. This time, there's rain in the forecast and we'll have to focus more on staying dry.

On a cold grey day it is nice to create some sunshine inside.

An afternoon skiing isn't complete without the warmth and comfort of a cup of hot chocolate.

And a cup of hot chocolate is not complete without the extra gooey sweetness of many, many marshmallows.

52 in 2018 - 11. Warm

It's not officially winter yet and it wasn't actually that cold either. Still, it's been snowing all day and you can feel the coming chill in your bones. Perhaps this fellow did too - sitting so close to the fire - the only source of heat in a pioneer cabin on the grounds of a local museum.

The winter soltice occurs tomorrow when the North Pole will be tilted -23.5 away from the sun. In the UK we will enjoy 7 hours 49 minutes and 41 seconds of daylight. Then the days start getting longer, HURRAY!

Some moments warm you from the inside out, no matter how cold the world around you feels.

The colors in the sky during the short days of winter can be breathtaking. Around November 20th the sun doesn't come up for two months but we are reminded of it by sunrise and sunset colors, but no sun.

Continuing posting some of the winter scenes, as the winter is back for real again. I added some warmth to give a more cosy feel on a Monday night like this, where the high winds and sleet are back.

Currently sitting in pub in Bosham with a beer and my laptop editing my late mornings work. With the realisation that the undiscovered images of this very photographed village, lie right here in the pub.

The pub is a haven of warmth and comfort, its wooden beams darkened with age and history. A crackling log fire in the hearth casts flickering golden light across the room, illuminating the gleam of polished brass and the deep red upholstery of the well-worn chairs. The scent of burning wood mingles with the rich aroma of ale, filling the air with a sense of timeless contentment.

Seated by the window, I cradle a pint of amber ale, the glass cool against my fingertips. The first sip is smooth and full-bodied, a perfect complement to the comforting hum of quiet conversation around me. Outside, beyond the thick, wavy glass of the old window, the tide has drawn back to reveal glistening mudflats where wading birds pick their way through shallow pools. The sea air, heavy with salt, drifts in when the door swings open, mixing with the warmth inside.

The light flooding the sky, dusky with blacks and greys reflecting off the still water of the harbour. Boats, their masts gently swaying, rest in the shallow waters, their reflections shimmering with each ripple. Across the bay, the silhouette of Bosham church stands against the evening sky, its spire a timeless sentinel over the sleepy village.

I take another slow sip, sinking deeper into my chair, letting the moment stretch—content, warm, and utterly at peace.

Electric throw I gave myself for my December birthday. It was a wise choice.

There's a timing goof on this one: the edit saved 31 seconds after the technical end of the day. Forgive me this one, eh?

Record warm temperatures in New England are confusing some of our native flowering plants. This witch hazel, although a winter blooming plant, usually doesn't start to show until late January or February in our area.

Welcomed the first day of winter with this perfect warmth

6 stitch pano

Rusty has an early Christmas present from me. While it's toasty warm where we live, lately if I'm not cuddling her, she's been spending most of each day under the duvet.

When it comes to "creature comforts" Rusty can be a little impatient. Here you see her looking for instructions on the box while trying to turn up the heat with her tail.

I'm pretty sure she'll figure it all out and start dreaming she's sleeping on a warm beach in Hawaii.

(I have Hawaii on my mind, tonight, after seeing The Descendants with George Clooney this afternoon. The flim is set in Hawaii and both George and the scenery were lovely. Two thumbs up)

Just some cyclists riding along.

Even in Texas we've needed some warmth this winter.

It's taken me too long to make this but finally it's finished (stitching it together took me till around 5pm today!) - a jumper for my brother!

Not having knitted much for ages, I just fancied making a jumper for a change to reading; I still feel it was worth doing heh!

The Aran jumper, or Geansaí Árann, is a style of jumper that takes its name from the Aran Islands off the west coast of Ireland.

A traditional Aran Sweater is usually off-white in colour (this one is called Mink), and is made from 100% wool (errr this one's made from 100% acrylic!!).

One of the most recognisable features of a traditional Aran is its cable patterns on the chest. Nowadays Lanolin is removed from the Aran jumper but this waxy substance secreted by sheep in the wool gave the jumper its all-weather versatility. It was primarily the wives of the islanders who knitted the jumpers before local knitters began selling their produce through initiatives such as Congested Districts Board for Ireland in 1892.

My wife, looking exceptionally nice and warm thanks to our new air-conditioner on heat mode. She's warm, relaxed which in my opinion really made this portrait shine.

PP adjustments included curves, soft light as well as dodge and burn.

Here's a view of my handknitted rainbow hat, showing the stitch detail as it looks at the very top of the hat.

A charming close-up from a Christmas tree in Durham, UK, featuring a glittery red car ornament carrying a tiny green Christmas tree on its roof. Suspended among white branches and glowing lights, the scene sparkles with gold and silver tinsel, red bead garlands, and festive warmth. The ornament’s whimsical design evokes holiday road trips, gift-laden journeys, and the joyful bustle of the season — all wrapped in glitter and nostalgia.

A vibrant detail from a decorated Christmas tree in Durham, UK. A pink ornament ball adorned with glittery purple swirls nestles among white artificial branches, framed by red bead garlands and glowing seasonal accents. The interplay of textures and colours — from the soft shimmer of the bauble to the crisp contrast of white needles and ruby tones — evokes warmth, celebration, and the joyful intricacies of holiday décor. A perfect moment of festive charm captured in close focus.
