the cyprus trees lose branches each winter in the storms...

First major winter storm of the year.

Toronto, Ontario

While winds are howling and rain is falling, for now, the winds are out of the northwest. Thus offshore winds are keeping the ocean waves from generating, at least for now. For those further north who are experiencing northeast winds, things are much different.

This past week most of Ontario went through a major ice storm. The temperatures dropped below freezing then hovered in the -1 -2 Celsius range for three days; all the while it rained heavily, causing major chaos on the roads and covering trees and roads in a thick sheet of ice. Branches too week to withstand the heavy Burdon of the thick ice snapped some even splitting in two, leaving such a mess for people to clean up. Many were without power for days. Where we live the damage was not as bad as in the Barrie and northern areas of southern Ontario.

Early the next morning I ventured out; carefully slipping and sliding my way to the local park to get these shots. As I crossed the frozen field I had to stomp my path through the frozen ground. The heavy layer of ice weighed down the trees until they were bent down and touched the ground, even the fence of local baseball diamond was covered in a transparent layer of ice.

This photo of a pine tree really shows how much ice cover there was. all the limbs were so heavy they drooped low and close to the trunk.

Daybreak reveals a departing overnight storm that brought snow to the higher elevations of Yosemite National Park. El Capitan is on the left, the valley floor with Half Dome above it in the center, and Bridalveil Falls on the right.

This was part of Winter Storm Titan that came ashore in California before moving on to later dump heavy snow on parts of the Eastern U.S.

The first winter storm of the season hit the Twin Cities this afternoon and has brought with plenty of snow!

A fierce windstorm left this small tree on the edge of Lake Ontario near Kingston, in danger of snapping.

What remains after the Blizzard, fantastic waves, lobster traps, frozen jetty and the peace and solitude of a very, very cold day at Wallis Sands Beach in Rye, New Hampshire, USA

Sunlight breaks through a gap in the clouds and illuminates the spires of the Needles in the southern part of Canyonlands as viewed from Murphy Bench on the White Rim. The snow laden bulbous clouds also pick up some glow from the setting sun. An oncoming storm covers the Abajo Mountains in the background.

This beautiful display was wholly unexpected with a seemingly continuous band of clouds in the western sky for most of the day. The light show lasted for only a few minutes, and I was thankful to be out on a short walk from camp when it occurred.

An overnight storm has dropped snow across the entire landscape of Canyonlands, from the Island in the Sky (r) to the banks of the Green River 2000 feet/ 600 m below. Low angle morning sunlight has broken through the clouds, illuminating the cuts in the White Rim Sandstone and the buttes above with Candlestick Tower at center stage.

A memorable afternoon and evening at Elgol where conditions were constantly changing as Storm Dudley approached the Isle of Skye. We were treated to ever changing conditions, including a rising tide, nearly gale force winds, grey skies, broken clouds, flat light which was often quickly followed with moments of gorgeous light.

We were a group of 6 togs, known from our adventures in 2020 as the STS, dashing about capturing as many images as we could. Here I decided to capture the incoming tide swirl around the rocks along the Elgol shore. These rocks eventually went under water as the tide rose. In the distance can be seen the snowcapped Cuillins.

I flew from Minnesota to spend a week with 4 friends/togs on a winter holiday on Skye. We even met up with and shot with SkyeWeasel for many of the days.

It was a great day out with friends.

This is an image I’ve been after for years. After an all-night drive and 2 miles of snowshoeing in -18 temps, my dream came true 💕

Had the chance yesterday to get out to Crystal Beach at Fort Erie, Ontario Canada to see the aftermath of last week's massive winter snowstorm.

Strong winds tossed freezing water from Lake Erie coating the houses in thick layer of ice.

Winter is finally settling in as the solstice nears.

A winter storm warning yet again today plus a snow squall watch for tonight with an additional 30-60 cm possible between now and Tuesday. This is my neighbors house where the layers on the roof give a pretty good illustration of daily snowfall amounts. There are usually thaws that keep the depth of snow down a bit but that hasn't happened since New Years Day.

As the winter midwest storm rolls in. This picture is a perfect theme. These are the Eben Ice Caves in Michigan UP.

not sure about the title ... if you have a good idea ... ;-)

I wish everybody A Happy New Year 2014!

Thanks for all the support, views, comments and favs in the last 6 month :-)

The final rays of sunset illuminate the canyon interior as viewed from the snowy South Rim. A refreshingly cool image for my fellow desert dwellers in Phoenix, where the high temperature today was 115 degrees F (46 degrees C) ! - Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona

Nauset Beach is a lengthy 10-mile expanse starting in Orleans stretching all the way to Chatham.

A memorable evening at Elgol where conditions were constantly changing as Storm Dennis barreled across the Isle of Skye. We were treated to ever changing conditions, including a rising tide, gale force winds, driving rain, hail pellets, snow, grey skies, broken clouds, flat light which was often quickly followed with moments of gorgeous golden hour light.

We were a merry band of 7 togs dashing about capturing as many images as we could, in conditions we had only dreamed of before. I flew from Minnesota to spend nearly a week with 5 friends/togs on a winter holiday on Skye. I even got the opportunity to meet and shoot with SkyeWeasel. This was the end of our first day on Skye, as I was walking back to the car in darkness I thought to myself how lucky I was!

From last week, mid-deep-freeze in Central Texas. I took a few mini-adventures around the yard while we passed the time in between huddling around a tiny propane heater and waiting for power to come back on. Clearly, ice-glazed things became my muse, forcing me to slow down and take in all of the small details of the freeze, and leaving me with beautiful souvenirs of what was otherwise a terrible experience. Nothing like Mother Nature to keep you humble about basic necessities. All’s well that ends well. 😅❄️

We're in the midst of a winter storm that, thankfully, only coated our trees and roads with a small amount of ice before turning to snow. We're expected to get several inches of the white stuff. Beneath the snow behind the limbs is a red brick street, waiting to be scraped and recovered. But I'll enjoy this while I can.

Winter storm approaching, Cromwell.
