De gebouwen hebben een houten winterjas gekregen en mogen zo blijven staan tot het voorjaar. Overmorgen wordt windkracht 9 verwacht, de ultieme proef op de som of ze daar tegen bestand zijn.

On monday 11 December Amsterdam is covered in a coat of fresh snow. The snow fell in sudden flurries and gusts and turned the world white and wonderful. With the canals in the city and occasional high winds, there can be a nip in the air, but packing gloves and a scarf should keep you warm enough. There is something very beautiful about Amsterdam in the winter. It does occasionally snow in Amsterdam in February, but that almost always means just a light dusting. I walk in my neighbourhood and made some photos of the snow. When it snows the light and atmosphere is really beautiful. The best way to travel in the snow is by bicycle, tram, walking or better by sleds. Dad is taking his kid by sled. His son enjoys the ride in this snowy world. Who knows times of Hendrick Avercamp are coming back this year. Avercamp was the first Dutch artist to specialize in paintings of winter landscapes featuring people enjoying the ice. Some 400 years on, our image of life in the harsh winters of the Golden Age is still dominated by Avercamp’s ice scenes with their splendid narrative details of couples skating, children pelting each other with snowballs and unwary individuals falling through the ice.
This monday afternoon I walk in my neighbourhood and made some beautiful photos of the snow. The virgin white carpet of snow is crunching under my shoes. I began to remember why I love the winters so much. Besides the inconvenience causes by the snow there is also fun for children here in the Jordaan. Snowballs, snowmen or sledding. Op de maandag middag van 10 december werd Amsterdam bedekt met een laagje verse sneeuw. De sneeuw die viel bedekte de wereld om ons heen wit en prachtig. Ik heb mijn camera gepakt en op pad gegaan in m'n buurtje. Ik geniet van het geluid van knarsende sneeuw onder mijn schoenen en het prachtige gezicht op de Amsterdamse grachtenpanden. Het is min één graden en de grijze sneeuw wolken trekken weg. Mijn nieuw winterjas met capuchon en m'n sjaal houden mij warm genoeg. Altijd met m'n camera onder m'n dikke jas. Met sneeuw moet je snel fotograferen en vaak je lens schoonvegen met lensdoekje. Er is iets heel moois over Amsterdam in de winter. De Jordaan is bedolven onder dik pak sneeuw zoals hierboven op de Eerste Bloemdwarsstraat hoek Bloemgracht. Het beste advies is dan maar om lekker binnen te blijven en de kachel iets hoger te zetten. Of natuurlijk even naar buiten te gaan om wat mooie plaatjes te schieten. Naast de overlast zorgt de sneeuw ook voor veel plezier bij kinderen hier in de Amsterdamse Jordaan. Sneeuwballen gevecht, sneeuwpoppen maken of sleetje rijden. Allemaal leuke activiteiten die kinderen en zelfs volwassenen zoals hierboven doen in deze mooie besneeuwde wereld. Wie even wegdenkt kan zich vandaag in Hendrick Avercamps wereld wanen. Als eerste Amsterdamse kunstenaar uit de 17de eeuw specialiseerde hij zich in het schilderen van winterlandschappen met ijspret. Ons beeld van het leven in de strenge winters in de Gouden Eeuw wordt na 400 jaar nog altijd bepaald door Avercamps ijsgezichten met prachtige verhalende details van schaatsende paartjes, kinderen die elkaar bekogelen met sneeuwballen of een man die door het ijs zakt. Ik heb mijn camera gepakt en op pad gegaan in m'n buurtje. Ik geniet van het geluid van knarsende sneeuw onder mijn schoenen en het prachtige gezicht op de Amsterdamse grachtenpanden. Het is min één graden en de grijze sneeuw wolken trekken weg. Mijn nieuw winterjas met capuchon en m'n sjaal houden mij warm genoeg. Altijd met m'n camera onder m'n dikke jas. Met sneeuw moet je snel fotograferen en vaak je lens schoonvegen met lensdoekje. Er is iets heel moois over Amsterdam in de winter. De Jordaan is bedolven onder dik pak sneeuw zoals hierboven op de Tweede Leliedwarsstraat hoek Nieuwe Leliestraat. Het beste advies is dan maar om lekker binnen te blijven en de kachel iets hoger te zetten. Of natuurlijk even naar buiten te gaan om wat mooie plaatjes te schieten. Naast de overlast zorgt de sneeuw ook voor veel plezier bij kinderen hier in de Amsterdamse Jordaan. Sneeuwballen gevecht, sneeuwpoppen maken of sleetje rijden. Allemaal leuke activiteiten die kinderen doen in deze mooie besneeuwde wereld. Wie even wegdenkt kan zich vandaag in Hendrick Avercamps wereld wanen. Als eerste Amsterdamse kunstenaar uit de 17de eeuw specialiseerde hij zich in het schilderen van winterlandschappen met ijspret. Ons beeld van het leven in de strenge winters in de Gouden Eeuw wordt na 400 jaar nog altijd bepaald door Avercamps ijsgezichten met prachtige verhalende details van schaatsende paartjes, kinderen die elkaar bekogelen met sneeuwballen of een man die door het ijs zakt. Het is altijd gezellig om door kleine straatjes te wandelen langs de café's en winkeltjes. De Jordaan wordt beschouwd als de meest pittoreske deel van Amsterdam.
Een koud nachtje. Ik was van plan om naar de Perseïden te kijken nadat ik de boel had opgezet en data aan het verzamelen was voor bovenstaand beeld. Ondanks winterjas en dikke trui liep ik te rillen van de kou.. in Augustus. Na kwart over drie stond de teller op 10. Later las ik op het nieuws dat het kwik tot aan nul graden was gekomen ergens in Overijssel. Brrr.

Heeswijk Castle is located in the Dutch province of North Brabant. Originally built in the 11th century, the castle was beuatifully restored in 2005. Heeswijk Castle has played a crucial role in the history of the Netherlands. Around the year 1600 Prince Maurits twice failed to take the castle. Eventually, his half-brother Frederick Henry did, however, succeeded in capturing the castle in 1629, which in turn enabled him to lay siege to a big city nearby' s-Hertogenbosch. In 1672 the French king Louis XIV stayed at Heeswijk Castle during his campaign against the Dutch Republic. At the end of the 18th century General Pichegru, a French general under the command of Napoleon used the castle as his headquarters. The current castle museum attempts to reflect the life and traditions of the middle of the 19th century. Following recent restoration guided tours of the castle are offered. The armory of the castle is used as a wedding location.
In much of southern part of the Netherlands a thick layer of snow fell yesterday. Heeswijk Castle, locally known as Kasteel Heeswijk, lies west of the village of Heeswijk-Dinther, in the North Brabant province in the Netherlands. In een groot deel van zuid Nederland is in de nacht van vrijdag 27 december op zaterdag een dik pak sneeuw gevallen. Eerste sneeuw sinds twee jaar. Even buiten het Brabantse Heeswijk-Dinther ligt het imposante Kasteel Heeswijk omgeven door een dubbele gracht. Eenmaal over de ophaalbrug van Kasteel Heeswijk wanen bezoekers zich direct in de Middeleeuwen. Reeds in het jaar 1080 ontstond er een voorloper van het huidige kasteel, een zogenaamde motte-burcht. In de loop van de Middeleeuwen werd de motte (kasteelheuvel) afgevlakt en werd op de plaats van de burcht een kasteel gebouwd. Kasteel Heeswijk heeft meerdere malen een rol gespeeld in de geschiedenis. Het lukte Prins Maurits rond 1600 tot twee maal toe niet om het kasteel in te nemen. Zijn halfbroer Frederik Hendrik slaagde daar in 1629 wel in, zodat hij vervolgens 's-Hertogenbosch kon belegeren. In 1672 was de Zonnekoning Lodewijk XIV de ongenode gast op Kasteel Heeswijk tijdens zijn strijd tegen de Republiek. Op het eind van de 18e eeuw gebruikte Pichegru, generaal van de Franse Revolutie onder leiding van Napoleon, het kasteel nog als hoofdkwartier. Het kasteel werd in 2005 prachtig gerestaureerd. Het huidige kasteelmuseum geeft een beeld van de woonsituatie en de verzameltraditie uit het midden van de 19e eeuw. Er zijn inmiddels weer rondleidingen door het kasteel mogelijk. De Wapenzaal van het kasteel doet dienst als officiële trouwlocatie. Het kasteel ligt mooi geïsoleerd in de bossen en omgeven door grachten.

Alles was op het strand te vinden, van winterjas tot badpak. Heb zelfs een paar mensen in zee gezien, helaas te ver weg om ze op de toto te zetten.
Tussen Scheveningen en Kijkduin, achter het Westduinpark, ligt het stille strand. Maar vandaag niet. Op 20 februari 16 graden en een lekker zonnetje was het genieten.

Another major attraction of the Dreamworld, Bangkok is the Snow Land , a unique concept with a huge field of snow created, children will love here to build snowman. A much loved theme and rightly so in a hot and humid Bangkok.
A big surprise for me and my family while entering Snow Land. It was real snow and inside temperature was only 1.5 °C or 35 Fahrenheit . Outside temperature was 38 °C or 100 °F. My first home video where Samantha and BieJee enjoyed to glide down the snow hill ;-) For many Thai people the first time to feel such cold temperature and see real snow.
In Dreamworld zijn we ook in Snowland geweest, ik dacht eigenlijk dat het gewoon een attracties was zoals in de Efteling een soort carnavals attractie, je weet wel waar dat liedje van in je hoofd blijft hangen (zoals bij mij nu ook het geval is, haha). Nou het bleek dus echte sneeuw te zijn!
We kwamen daar binnen, kregen laarzen en een winterjas en werden in de sfeer gebracht door “All I want for Christmas” van Mariah Carey. Binnen gleden BieJee en Samantha met een opblaasband van de sneeuwberg. Na 1x had mijn Thaise familie het wel gezien veel te koud! Maar wat wil je ook buiten was het 38 graden terwijl het binnen maar 1.5 graden was!
