feliz ano novo pra todo mundo! =)

até 2009!

;*

Yesterday my son and I headed over to the James J. Hill house in St. Paul, MN.

For those not familiar with James J. Hill, he was known as the “Empire Builder” who masterminded construction of the Great Northern Railroad.

I have toured the house before a few different times, but this time they took us into other areas that I don't remember being in before. The wine cellar is located in the basement of the mansion, and I don't recall this being open during my past visits, so I had to for sure get some photos of it. 😁

I like the way they do tours now. Many years ago you would meet in a room for your tour group, go on the guided tour, then leave. Now they let you freely roam around the house before & after your tour time...which is GREAT if you are like me and want to take photos of this beautiful house.

Whim would Like to thank Linda for the mame-sized floor-buffer. She finally gets to kick up her feet and have a glass of wine!

Spoiling myself in a posh hotel lounge. Smoked salmon sandwiches, should have ordered a chilled glass of white wine, making do with coffee. xx

Our photography club took a tour of one of our local wineries yesterday.

Cheers to those medical professionals who work long shifts, crazy hours and take care of our children when we, as parents, are at our most stressed. After your shift at the hospital, put your feet up, relax in the sun and toast a glass of wine to another day well done! You've made a difference today as you do each and every day. Some days are sad, some are extremely rewarding and fun but regardless, we couldn't do it without you! Thank you!

My own homemade wine

Testing out how to photograph glass bottles. Not the prettiest bottle I could find but sufficient for testing. Unfortunately I did not have a solid background and had to use the wallpaper. That took a long time to correct in post later. Also, a bigger room would be much better. There was simply too much spill light from the softbox all around and especially on the background

(Sorry to all who Fav'd this previously, put it back in PS as there were some niggling bits)

This is my first attempt at using a slave flash, so I would be very grateful for any advice you may have.

I bought a cheap £10 Neewer slave flash on amazon, placed it to the front/left side of the glass pointing at a white sheet of card in the background, set the on camera flash to 1/32 and diffused it with an opaque plastic cap as to have enough just to trigger the slave. Vignette added and flash reflections removed in Photoshop CS5.

not the best weather outside, so I decided to take an indoor picture.

This grape wine tasted a whole lot better than the diet Dr Pepper I had at the beginning of dinner

The fashion model relaxes with a nice glass of wine. Well if I switch to something like tequila maybe I'll even believe that I could make it in the modeling biz.

Tyto alba is the Latin name for the barn owl. In the vineyard I visited, lots of nests were built so that owls could live around the vineyard and catch the mice and snakes which could destroy the plants without having to use poison. The wine was named after the owls.

It's only 10:22 a.m. and I already want one of these. I can almost smell the oak. mmmm....

This looks a little darker than it did in CS5. Not sure why that's happening, any ideas?
