A Crompton & class 47 basking in the Basingstoke sunshine are reflected in the window of an Emu forming a down service. Date unknown.
One of the stained glass windows inside St. Fidelis Catholic Church, aka. the Cathedral of the Plains in Victoria, Kansas. The windows were finished and installed in 1916 and they cost $3,000. This window depicts his parents finding a young Jesus in the temple.
The church was built from 1908-1911. The cornerstone was laid on October 4, 1909 and the church was dedicated August 27, 1911. It is the fourth church on the site with several of the stone of the third church used in the interior walls. In 1912 William Jennings Bryan nicknamed it the "Cathedral of the Plains" and the name has stuck. The building is 220 feet long and the outer walls rise 27 feet. The twin towers rise 141 feet and our topped with a twelve foot cross. The stone is native Ellis County limestone quarried by hand and hauled to Victoria. In 2008 it was named one of the 8 Wonders of Kansas by the Kansas Samplers Foundation.

Noticed this disheveled guy with puke on his pants standing outside a cafe stalking a Chinese girl sitting inside. The girl was sitting with a guy both reading books, but the stalker was only interested in the girl. The couple focused intently on their reading hoping the stalker would just give up, but to no avail.... this was no ordinary stare down.
The couple gave up, and left; i didn't take notice if they simply moved to another table, or exited the cafe as i lost interest at that point.... but what the heck, i came back a min later to see if there was more...
The staff inside noticed the guy standing in the window, but didn't want to get involved. The other customers in the cafe didn't seem to notice, nobody on the streets seemed to care.

Stained glass by Alan Younger installed to mark the Millennium in the east window of the north aisle. The central Virgin & Child group and flanking vignettes are designed to complement the medieval fragments surviving at the apex of the window.
St Mary's at Enville is an imposing sight, it's magnificent south-west tower beckons to the visitor from its hillside position where one is confronted by this warm toned sandstone building, which is rather restored but well worth seeing.
The handsome Perpendicular-style tower is in fact a Victorian rebuilding by G.G.Scott who restored the church in 1871-4, leaving a strong imprint on the building, also entailing the rebuilding of the chancel. The exterior thus suggest a 19th century church, so it is a surprise to enter another world within.
It takes some time for the eyes to adjust upon entering the church as it is rather dark (with stained glass in nearly every window), but the first features revealed are the Norman nave arcades, again somewhat restored. There is much of interest here, with some medieval glass and some interesting tombs, whilst in the chancel are four 15th century choir stalls with very fine misericords. The rest of the glass is mostly Victorian aside from two very good contemporary windows.
St Mary's appears to be generally kept open and welcoming and is well worth a visit, its restored exterior and dark interior conceal some fine features that will reward spending some time here.

The church of St Denis stands in semi isolation on the fringe of the large village of Ibstock. It is an impressive building dating mainly from the 14th century, dominated by a sturdy steeple at the west end. Inside there is a good mixture of glass from late 19th to mid 20th century dates and the building is clearly well used and cared for.
The church is normally locked outside of services, but we were given an especially warm welcome here by the ladies on stewarding duty whilst the church was open for the day.

Memorial to Rev John Sneyd (d1873). Given by his daughter Susanna Ingleby.
The firm of Burlison & Grylls was founded in 1868 at the instigation of the architects George Frederick Bodley and Thomas Garner.
Thomas John Grylls (1845-1913) and John Burlison (1843-1891) were encouraged to leave their apprenticeships with Clayton & Bell and set up their stained glass firm which built a considerable reputation for its fine work over the next 40 years. They became one of the most successful stained glass firms in England.
Following Thomas John Grylls' death in 1913, the firm was continued by his son Thomas Henry Grylls (1873-1953), although effectively it can be said to have closed shortly after its London premises were bombed and all records destroyed in 1945.
