The Dancing House (Czech: Tančící dům) is the nickname (another nickname is "Drunk House") given to an office building in downtown Prague, Czech Republic at Rašínovo nábřeží 80, 120 00 Praha 2. It was designed by Croatian-born Czech architect Vlado Milunić in co-operation with Canadian architect Frank Gehry on a vacant riverfront plot (where the previous building had been destroyed during the Bombing of Prague in 1945). The construction started in 1994 and was finished in 1996

The very non-traditional design was controversial at the time. Czech president Václav Havel, who lived for decades next to the site, had supported it, hoping that the building would become a center of cultural activity.

Originally named Fred and Ginger (after Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers - the house vaguely resembles a pair of dancers) the house stands out among the Neo-Baroque, Neo-Gothic and Art Nouveau buildings for which Prague is famous.

On the roof is a French restaurant with magnificent views of the city. The building's other tenants include several multinational firms. (The plans for a cultural center were not realized.) Because it is situated next to a very busy road it depends on forced air circulation, making the interior somewhat less pleasant for its occupants.

The Romanesque church of Notre Dame in Bayeux was begun in the 11th century, finished in the 15th. The stained glass window details are medieval (less sure about the light blue parts of the window, though) depicting saintly men - probably bishops.

This very very old window is held together with steel wires.Took the photo in Louth Lincolnshire uk.Used Lumix G9 with an adapted 50mm jupiter 8 f2 manual focus prime lens.

Another old one that appeals to me, catching up with older shots

"Because forgiveness is like this: a room can be dank because you have closed the windows, you've closed the curtains. But the sun is shining outside, and the air is fresh outside. In order to get that fresh air, you have to get up and open the window and draw the curtains apart." -Desmond Tutu

Took this photo in an old abandoned house where my Great Grandparents used to live. Standing in a cold dark room where the floor was caving in and bits of the ceiling were scattered around my feet it was nice to see this light softly falling on parts of the house bringing a little color and warmth back to the place.

Way up on the AMA building....
