After sandblasting all the rust off (courtesy of my friend Russ) and 4 coats of rust-resistant paint - I finally got most of the surfaces well-protected.

Knock On The Sky Listen To The Sound

Knock on the sky listen to the sound is a Buddhist proverb of spiritual significance, first heard on a journey over the Himalayas in Ladakh, where the sky was so close we felt like we could knock on it. It seems an appropriate title, as the artwork transforms the space into an open-air musical instrument that, on initial contact, sounds as though it is coming from the sky. Chimes are hung, often in great numbers, near places of religious significance such as temples and shrines. The intention of the chimes is to allow the winds of fortune or ‘chi’ energy to flow freely, as wind chimes can influence how chi flows through a space. Here the chimes are believed to help slow positive energy as it approaches the building, inviting it inside from all four directions. The notion of pilgrimage is seeded in this work, as the chimes journey between the sites through audience participation. Framing part of this work as a pilgrimage suggests the proposal of the new Jungian archetype for the pilgrimage as a common human experience. The application of multiple sites creates a non-static developmental work that externally generates its own tools, channels and co-authorship.

This is the windchime Diana, Jon & Nick gave us for Christmas. Earlier in the year I had hung it off of our balcony, but it made just a little too much noise for our shared courtyard. The rose is the perfect place for it!

Yes... These are the windchimes that made some noise... that disturbed the branch.... that angered the hornets.....that stung me.

Started as a simple bell and then idea grew into a windchime. Very quiet.

Tracy (California) Art League, "Expressions!" print-on-wood entry, February 2023. Even before I picked up the 5x7 wood prints, I had it in mind to create larger versions of similar subjects. The wood pieces here were each in the 8-12 x 10-16 x 1" range, simarly treated: torch-burned for wood grain texture, finished and treated, then decoupage the print onto it. With one exception, the subjects were different.

"Windchimes, December Storm" - one abstract variation in conveying the movement of things during a storm is to slow the shutter speed to capture the movement. Here, it's windchimes in one of the earlier winter storms in N California. The print editing had the saturation and contrast enhanced for effect.
