Do not allow that the wind should take the words

When I saw that Blizzard was selling stuffed wind rider toys, I just had to get one for Amanda. (For those that don't know, wind-riders are one of the flying creatures in the World of Warcraft computer game that you can use to quickly travel from town to town.)

Vollis Simpson’s multi-colored whirligig or wind machine consists of forty separate movable elements—fans, blades, propellers, wheels, and more—enabling it to take flight with even the slightest breeze.

Recycling discarded parts from cars, trucks, bicycles, farm machinery, street lights, and highways signs, Simpson’s whirligigs transform cast-off everyday objects and industrial materials into whimsical, dancing, spinning wind machines whose sole purpose is its fantastic visual impact.

I'd been wanting to go here for ages, and after 3 attempts, I got a nice look at the place, although did not do any ascent up the headstocks, rumoured to be the highest in Europe. Inside reminded me of going on a school trip to an industrial museum. Without the velvet ropes and the handsets, the exhibits, gift shop and cafe.

The tallest headstocks in Europe, apparently listed mark the remains of Clipstone Colliery, Nottinghamshire. The winding houses are all that remain, and they lie silent, ravaged by metal thieves and decay.

January 30, 2022

The morning after the Blizzard of January 2022:

There was a beautiful sunrise and clear skies to follow, making it a nice day for shooting. Temps were still in the teens and the wind was whipping. The power would remain out until just about 1:00 pm today, coming back just in time because the inside house temperature was barley holding above 40 degrees F.

Wind chimes, crystals and discordant music all say "New Age" to me. One out of three ain't bad!

These wind chimes were a wedding present and have bonged merrily for us for over ten years.

On January 25th we were driving west on I-90 between Mitchell and Chamberlain South Dakota when the winds started gusting and blowing rolling clouds of dirt off the fields along the interstate.

The old AT&T microwave tower used to be the tallest thing in the Waterman Quad, but not any more. Side by side, the turbines would be about 100 feet taller.
