Taken at The Pillertons (somewhere on the Warwickshire/Oxfordshire border, England).

First attempt at using a borrowed polarising filter. Really pleased with this shot! I took a photo of this last August on my cameraphone, and passed it today by chance. The old version can be seen here.

Great project constructed as a result of the very high winds recently experienced. The last half of winter in Juneau had recorded Taku Winds in excess of 90 mph. This occured for many days in a few segments ranging from 40-50 mph sustained.

The mixing of electricity and water. What could possibly go wrong? From 30,000 feet or so, crossing the south end of the North Sea probably off the coast of Belgium. I felt it was a large scale minimalist image if such a thing exists.

This awesome artificial Cardinal (at least, I believe it's a Cardinal!) was hanging from a tree just over the dividing fence between our lot and our neighbor's lot at the Sheep River Campground.

This thing was really cool; the wire hanging down from underneath it is connected to weighted wind chimes, so that, as the wind blows, this bird spins around and flaps its wings and beautiful music is also created from the chimes!

A half dozen Canada geese huddle together to protect against frigid temperatures and strong winds.

I've just finished my first five days of being a landscaping foreman this season. It's been a rough start...-11 degrees celcius today with winds at 40km/hr. Needless to say, under all that dirt, my face has been "wind blasted" to the point of looking painfully sunburned.

It does feel good to be outside though. As my co-foreman said today "there's a very small part of my soul that enjoys this" (meaning the ridiculously freezing temperatures and hurricane winds)

Europe's largest windfarm. Well worth a visit. 90 Km of paths for walking and cycling etc. fantastic views and scenery. Near Eaglesham and just off junction 6 of the M77. We discovered that it actually has a visitor centre. Scottish Power run it but the execution doesn't quite hit the mark. The building is a nice design, very modern but with a stone wall feature that forms the exterior central wall and continues in to form the main central dividing wall.

However the centre is too small and the food's not that great, but what an amenity. They are going to add another 36 turbines and the centre apparently will close for the winter, bonkers or what. Not only that it will shut early in the summer 5pm and the gates on the road to the centre will be shut at 6pm really bonkers. Good example of what's good and what's wrong with Scottish Tourism.

They have quite clearly underestimated how important an amenity this is. Apart from the fact that it can generate 2% of Scotland's electricity needs it is a very unusual visitor attraction. When we arrived, just before lunch time, as we turned into the road leading up to the centre we were met with cars parked on either side of the road for about 200 metres before you even get to the actual car park. It's been busy since it opened a month or so ago, that tells you something.

I can imagine a fantastic restaurant with stunning views and the breath taking sunsets we get in the west of Scotland at 11pm in summer, and they want to shut at 6pm. Please reconsider Scottish Power!

Given the layout of the full site I can see visitor centre 2 being built somewhere on the western side of the site.

Nicholasville, KY - August 2005 - the motel and cafe buildings have been demolished and this is all that remains. Anyone in the area is encouraged to try to buy this lovely set of signs from the present property owners and save them from the landfill.
