Nice piles of leaves by the wind

The is the wind I was riding in. When the the direction was head-on, my speed drops from 15 km per hour to about 7 or 8. It then occurred to me I could run faster than that.

And when the wind was blowing sideways, the bike was actually drifting. I followed the advise of a tour operator I met earlier that day to always ride on the side of the wind, so that when I get blown to the other side, it is onto the other side of the road, rather than off the road.

The sound of the wind still brought back the physical sensation of tightly gripping the bike handles.

A "field" of wind turbines on the eastern Oregon prairie. There is a lot to know about wind energy. Oregon has vast wind energy resources. Many projects have been completed, most of them in rural Eastern Oregon and near the Columbia River Gorge. One of the largest wind energy company headquarters is located in Portland.Estimates from the National Renewable Energy Laboratory showed that Oregon has potential to install over 27,000 megawatts of onshore wind power. Installed wind power capacity in Oregon has seen large growth in recent years and Oregon now ranks among the top ten states with the most wind power installed.

A sweet little one of the kids from our outing from the other day! It was really, really blowing a gale out there! :-)

Wind Turbine doing its job on a lovely breezy day! I made some small adjustments to this photo to 'improve' the sky and make those blades stand out a bit more.

reflection off water with wind...picasa.....only rotated and straightened ....hey, it sings to me and brings me peace . I guess I have to keep working with my Nikon software!

So a little back story with this shot. This is one of my best friends and roomate Steve Wood. He plays one of the world's oldest wind instruments, the Didgeridoo. The store DidgeridooBreath.com is having a photo contest of sorts. Basically, the participants are to get a shot of them in an iconic or special place wearing their Didgeridoo Breath shirt. So this is what we came up with, what better icon of our fine city than the St. Louis Gateway Arch! We had a great sky and great weather to go out shooting.

To the winner of this contest goes a brand new, very nice, very expensive Didgeridoo. I would love to do my part in helping my friend win this because I know this is his passion. I know that if I were in a contest to win a camera, something I'm passionate about, he would do everything he could to help me. So now I'm asking you, all of you, to help Steve and me out by following the link below to the photo on Didgeridoo Breath's Facebook page, like the photo on their page, and that's it! The person with the most likes at the end on the contest wins! We only have a couple weeks left so we would both really appreciate any and all support!

Just follow this link to Didgeridoo Breath's Facebook page and my photo of Steve:

It was cold & windy up on Steptoe Butte November 9, 2012. The snow was wind blown and sticking to the pine needles.

The New York City Department of Transportation’s Art Program and New York Cares organized two Barrier Beautification painting events in conjunction with the New York Cares Day on Saturday, April 12, 2014. Queens based artist Mayuko Fujino beautified 280 feet of concrete barrier with 20 New York City Urban Fellows Program volunteers at 180th Street and Devoe Avenue adjacent to River Park in the Bronx.

The whimsical design “Spring Wind” illustrates a scene of warm spring winds and celebrates the revitalization of spring. The NYC Urban Fellows truly enjoyed their time painting the barriers and commented it was a fun community service activity to celebrate the end of their fellowships with the City.

Early morning sweetness. We left West Bend way before sunrise to get down to Wind Point to catch the golden light. The grounds were deserted except for the police department that calls the lighthouse its headquarters. Well worth the trip.

The wind from the north is strong and gusty today. These leaves will soon let go. I was pleased that the speed I chose was high enough to stop these whipping golden leaves long enough to focus.
