Bullrush from last year still standing in the ditch at the bottom of my driveway. Cold for April, -1C. Wind gusting and swirling at 50 kph.

Camera looking south, sky beaten down by a couple of stops. Late afternoon sunlight from the west. YN-560III riding in bare from the northeast, handheld. Too much wind for stands, or anything else. Triggered with cheap radio.

Nothing left but an old rush screaming into the wind.

Through wind power leases, wind turbines such as these are built on state lands to generate electricity.

If the wind turbines I saw from US24 recently are in the same wind farm, this place has really grown!

This is a photo I took of many wind turbines set out at sea on the Lincolnshire coats (East England).

Three images stitched in CS5

I don't understand the pattern that appeared in the sky to the right of center. It's not in any of the original frames before stitching. I was going to discard this image but then went ahead and posted it anyway hoping I could find out what caused the pattern.

A wind rose is a graphic tool used by meteorologists to give a succinct view of how wind speed and direction are typically distributed at a particular location. Historically, wind roses were predecessors of the compass rose on maps, as there was no differentiation between a cardinal direction and the wind which blew from such a direction. Using a polar coordinate system of gridding, the frequency of winds over a 30-year period are plotted by wind direction, with color bands showing wind ranges. The directions of the rose with the longest spoke show the wind direction with the greatest frequency.

Een windroos of windkruis is een kruis dat de windrichtingen (noord, oost, zuid en west) aanduidt. Een windroos kan teruggevonden worden op een kompas of onder een windhaan.

Something a little bit different from my archives, here is a set of my windchimes which was hanging from an ornament plum tree in our garden around this time of year, 2 years ago, late afternoon. Sadly strong winds broke the chimes and I put it to one side to mend with new "cord", but decided to use fishing line instead as I think that will be more robust. I suddenly remembered these chimes earlier this spring, but can't remember where I put them "in a safe place". No doubt I will find them when I am looking for something else one day. I know I still have them .... somewhere!

Taken with my Canon EOS 7D and Canon EF 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM Lens and framed in Photoshop.

There used to be hundreds of wind powered drainage pumps in the English fens. This is the only working one left. It's at Wicken Fen. Much more attractive than twenty first century wind turbines.
