St. Joseph North Pier

A never-ending ocean of wind turbines outside Palm Springs.

Yesterday evening there was a very stormy wind and try to capture this.

A wind turbine is a popular name for a device that converts kinetic energy from the wind into electrical power. Approx. 164ft -220ft. (50 m to 70 m)

Before the snow, but still very cold. Made even more cold by the nice, brisk wind that kicked up. You know, the kind of cold that moves right through you and rattles your bones.....Still, I kind of love this weather!!

I had to hurry and try to get in a few shots before the rain really got going. The wind was already kicking pretty hard, especially on top of the levee, but luckily I was able to get a few long exposures off before the rain really came down.

Shot from the TGV on the way to Reims from Paris. I wanted to try to take some shots of the landscape/ fields in France. Very strong contrast at the time but some nice sun rays came out. To me, the 3 layers of colour and texture is the primary interest.

Shetland has now got a large wind farm, with turbines marching across the hillside. These have only been installed in the last few years. Given how windy the islands are and the UK in general doesn't quite have the rabid anti-windfarm lobby that occurs here I didn't hear much about protesting this. However, I am sure there would be some. Unlike, Iceland where geothermal energy is useful for both heating and electricity generation and is readily available.

This is an AI overview of the Viking Wind Farm "The primary wind turbine farm in the Shetland Islands is the Viking Wind Farm, a 443MW project with 103 turbines, which recently achieved full operational capacity, becoming the UK's most productive wind farm. It harnesses the islands' strong wind resources to generate enough electricity for approximately 500,000 homes and helps support the UK's net-zero targets. Other projects include the Energy Isles Wind Farm, an 18-turbine development on the island of Yell with a capacity of 126MW.

Viking Wind Farm

Capacity: 443 megawatts (MW).

Turbines: 103 turbines.

Output: Can power the equivalent of nearly half a million homes annually.

Significance: Expected to be the UK's most productive onshore wind farm and play a vital role in the country's decarbonization goals.

Status: All turbines were installed by August 2023, and it is now fully operational.

Other Projects

Energy Isles Wind Farm: An 18-turbine development on the island of Yell, with an installed capacity of about 126MW, capable of powering around 157,000 homes.

Shetland's Renewable Energy Future

Onshore and Offshore Potential: Shetland possesses significant wind resources, with plans for further wind farms and the development of tidal and green hydrogen projects, such as the Orion project.

Grid Connection: The construction of the Viking wind farm includes a new undersea cable to export the additional power to the Scottish mainland and beyond, helping to stabilize the grid and connect Shetland to the national grid.

Community Benefits: These projects are designed to retain the benefits of the renewable energy sector within the Shetland community and help reduce reliance on diesel and natural gas. " www.vikingenergy.co.uk/

Pembina Escarpment.......

This was taken yesterday at our lighthouse. We had some pretty good waves too.

This pile of fallen branches are evidence of the damage done to trees by the wind storm that passed through our area last night.

The Little Red Schoolhouse at the Lost Villages Museum. Gusty winds brought plenty of leaves down this day literally changing the landscape of southern Ontario. A lot more bare trees now.

Three words to define #FaroeIslands: Cliffs, Wind, and Sheep

Hello!!!!!

This photo was taken yesterday, one invitation from my good friends @Nuno Martins and @Paulo Remédios to go to this "new" place to photograph the sunset, it was a raining day but at this time we had luck, stop raining for a little of time and we had the chance to take some pictures, this is one of that shots, I hope you like it!!!!

Have a great weekend!!!!!

One sees many of these wind pumps in the Overberg region, between Robertson and Stanford, in the Western Cape. Finding three of them together was a bonus…

Have a great weekend, everyone. 😊

HFF!

Not a good day for clicking.

The hills are alive with the sound of turbines....hope there's enough wind.
