Cornflowers Centaurea cyanus...Cornflower is a simple flower but has great beauty. Their blue flower heads appear in the summer on tall slender stems.
Cornflowers have been cultivated for many years into garden varieties and many colours are available. The native Cornflower Centaurea Cyanus is not often seen in the wild any more and it has a very pretty blue flower.
They can be grown anywhere in a sunny garden. Ideally they need to be grown along side other species as they may fall over if grown on their own. A Cornfield Annual mix with red of Poppies and Yellow of Marigold is a very attractive mi

For a couple of weeks in each year, parts of the normally green and pleasant English countryside are transformed into a vibrant, colourful tapestry. Carpets of bluebells cover woodland floors, drifts of wild orchids abound on chalk downlands, brilliant red poppies spring up around the margins of corn fields and colourful coastal flowers cling tenaciously to windswept cliffs high above the Atlantic Ocean. Even the cultivated landscape often takes on a coat of bright colours – ranging from fields of intense yellow rapeseed to vast acres of blue flax.
The photos in this album ‘The English Countryside in Flower’ aim to show the diversity of the flowering environments in the English landscape and, where conditions are favourable, the flora that thrive in them
……Probably my favourite photo from the holiday - a day when we had no real plans so meandered fairly local to base. We called in at Kestle Barton Gallery, very much enjoyed the exhibition and then went to see the wild meadow we’d seen there in previous years - we expected it to be all dried up but no! Plenty of floral delights, then I spied an artist working intently! My lucky day I thought. Had nice chat with her and talked a little about her work - a while later we both arrived at the cars together so I showed her a phone shot which she liked and ask for a copy - the beauty of ‘Airdrop’! I subsequently checked out Holly’s work & loved it. See links, well worth a peep - www.instagram.com/hollyastle/# www.hollyastle.co.uk/ Many thanks Holly. Alan:-)…….

A rare sight, brief as a summer breath, yet vital for the continuation of the wondrous insect world.
The macro world holds small stories – large enough to stop us in our tracks.

These flower fields are incredibly stunning..We’re so lucky in England to have such varied landscapes, from meadows to forests, and rolling hills to sandy beaches. This varied terrain provides the perfect place for so many different kinds of flowers and foliage to grow and bloom, and there’s nothing more relaxing than sitting by a stunning field of flowers
I have just spent 10 days traveling around Northern Italy, Switzerland, Austria, Slovenia and Venice. We clocked up 2,800km in 6 1/2 days and have seen some of the most beautiful places.

Sul sentiero silenzioso che sale al Plan de Corones, la fatica fisica non ostacola la fantasia, così immagino le storie che le baite raccontano, storie che posso ascoltare.
On the silent trail leading up to Plan de Corones, physical fatigue doesn’t hinder my imagination instead, I picture the stories the mountain huts tell, stories I can hear.

In many places the cliffs are gradually eroding and falling into the sea. They put fencing up to try and deter people from getting to close to unstable cliff edges.
