It is always great fun to see grouse breeding displays. This proud, confident Ruffed Grouse was unafraid of me.

We fulfilled each other's needs. I provided him with an appreciative audience of one whom he entertained (romanced?) for 10-15 minutes. He bailed me out of an imprudent 45 minute wildlife-seeking side trip in which I grossly misjudged the onset of darkness and was repeatedly asking myself - before seeing him - "what am I doing here?"

Dark and skinny , days without food and water , miserable conditions at Amboseli national park, these clouds might be last hope for the gentle giants of Kenya , we were there last week and conditions were heart wrenching, we saw more than 100 deaths with 4 elephants.

Hope the conditions become better with the rains .

I always like to include on image showing how wildlife seek refuge and protect themselves. It always amazed me how wildlife camouflage themselves.

While I was visiting the Jawai Wildlife Reserve, I stayed at an old home that had been used as a hunting lodge. The proprietor of the property inherited the house and subtly made it be known that he was a member of India's elite.

He had one young man on his staff who was the safari driver and doubled as a cook as well. On our way into the reserve, we picked up the spotter. His home was more of a shell of a house. Only the outside walls remained that enclosed a dirt floor. It is this man I remember the most. He was so polite, so proud and had such a keen eye for spotting leopards. He was tipped royally.

A powerful close-up of an African elephant in Botswana’s Chobe National Park. The texture of its wrinkled skin, the curve of its ivory tusk, and the delicate movement of its trunk reflect both the strength and vulnerability of Africa’s giants.

A striking pied kingfisher perches on a thorny branch against the clear blue skies of Botswana’s Chobe National Park. Known for its sharp hunting skills and elegant black-and-white plumage, this bird embodies the vivid beauty of Africa’s wildlife.

A weasel is a mammal of the genus Mustela of the family Mustelidae. The genus Mustela includes the least weasels, polecats, stoats, ferrets and mink. Members of this genus are small, active predators, with long and slender bodies and short legs.
