Lake Crescent, Olympic National Park, Washington.

To celebrate the New Year and Dom's birthday we spent three nights on Lake Crescent's shore at the marvelous Beam Cabin. This cozy private cabin is tucked on the east shores of Lake Crescent, nestled next to the always inviting peaks and forests of Olympic National Park. There is so much GOOD to say about the Beam Cabin. Over the next few days I will share more pictures. The owners have gone above and beyond to make their guests feel at home. If we could have stayed forever - we would have. I know one thing for sure - we shall return. It was perfect. It was calm. It was a peaceful way to being 2010.

I awoke at 4AM on Sunday morning. Sleep was gone and not to return. But maybe it was so I'd be up and ready to wander out to the dock to witness this sight. As the darkness retreated the fresh snow capped peaks emerged - like smiles on a loved one's face. What a joyful morning. What a joyful place.

"WHOA!!"

zzzzzzzzzzz...!

Billy Fischer works quickly but carefully to slow the fish. This monster will snap the line! Billy weaves with the pulls, like a boxing match, and wades into the water. Still he's unreeling faster than he can bring it in!

zzzzzzzzzzz...!

This is an unreal fish! But no one will believe it if Billy doesn't land it!

Climbing Mt. Rainier with RMI for The American Lung Association of Washington's Climb for Clean Air. I was on a rest break on the glacier above Little Tahoma while the guide took someone to a lower party to go back down.

At first I was annoyed, but -- I was able to sit for 20 minutes and watch the sun come up. What an amazing experience. The two guys in red were on my rope team. Little Tahoma below us.

Part of the Gateway National Recreation Area (NPS). We were here on a cold March day volunteering for Plover Day...A group of over 20 people came out to clean and place barriers around the area of the beach where endangered Piping Plovers nest each spring.

As you can see, it is indeed quite Breezy here...Close to the ocean, wind relentlessly blew sands around our feet...

Mother Nature does give snow to deserts The one and only time we had the opportunity to visit the southwest, there had to be a very rare snowstorm. We were stranded for 2 days on a Navajo Reservation in Canyon de Chelly and the first day we were able to travel, we went to Monument Valley which was nothing but red mud and gorgeous vistas.

Maroon Bells, Colorado on a beautiful September day in 2010. This place takes my breath away every time I visit.

Gail: We gotta find us a place to stay!

Sashya: I can recommend the bed and breakfast I stayed in the last time I was here. Assuming they have room available, it's a charming little place.

Gail: That sounds like the cat's meow, right there! Say, and what about transportation? What say we rent some motorcycles? That'd be fun, huh? You ladies know how to ride?

Sashya: Oh yes, I've used them often in my job.

Now, Miss Boop, my name is Agatha Winterbottom, and I am a lawyer from Cooper's Town. Speedo is indeed my client on a completely unrelated matter** but I-

Always be full of joy in the Lord. I say it again—rejoice! Let everyone see that you are considerate in all you do. Remember, the Lord is coming soon.

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.

[Philippians 4:4-7 NLT]

5 THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW:

1. Like it or not, we are ALL sinners: As the Scriptures say, “No one is righteous—not even one. No one is truly wise; no one is seeking God. All have turned away; all have become useless. No one does good, not a single one.” (Romans 3:10-12 NLT)

2. The punishment for sin is death: When Adam sinned, sin entered the world. Adam’s sin brought death, so death spread to everyone, for everyone sinned. (Romans 5:12 NLT)

3. Jesus is our only hope: But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. (Romans 5:8 NLT) For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 6:23 NLT)

4. SALVATION is by GRACE through FAITH in JESUS: God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. (Ephesians 2:8-10 NLT)

5. Accept Jesus and receive eternal life: If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. (Romans 10:9 NLT) But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God. (John 1:12 NLT) And this is what God has testified: He has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have God’s Son does not have life. (1 John 5:11-12 NLT)

Stow Lake, Golden Gate Park

The last few mornings have produced this wonderful fog.

In the Paprihaven Sports Reserve, Glenn spots some more ducks but they're headed out of range. Just as well. It was a good hunt and faithful Bogie looks ready to head home. His mind drifts to Kat, the beautiful woman he's met at the gym. She's an outdoors girl but has, so far, rebuffed his invitations.

Glenn: (thinking) It's great out here. There must be some way I can convince Kat to come hunting with me.

'Uptown Chow', the gourmet stand at Boop's Scoops, is by reservation only and Glenn has waited months* to secure this evening for himself and Kat.

Once a reservation is secured, the customer can send their request of desired ingredients to Chef Bree, who will cook to order as a sandwich or burger. She's never failed to please a customer yet!

Glenn: This is fantastic!

Bree: Oh, good! I was excited when I got your request. I'd not heard of that combination before, so it was a great challenge!

Kat: It's great. I'll be sorry when it's gone. So, Glenn, the sauce must have analooms in it. I recognize the taste from you introducing me to them during our hunt. But what's the meat?

Glenn: Heh! Don't tell her, Chef Bree. We'll see if she can guess.

High Divide/Seven Lakes Basin, Olympic National Park, Washington.

This was taken near the Seven Lakes Basin way-trail and High Divide junction. Taken after a long day of marmot surveying. After our second day tackling the High Divide units. The next day would bring rain and fog, as well as our own attempts to survey the Lunch Lake units.

This was such a sight. I fumbled my way along the trail, trying to watch where I was going and pull out my camera in time to capture this before footsore311 wandered around the corner. You can make out the beginning portions of the basin way-trail. The peaks. The lingering snow dotting the topography. The landscape beckons. Exploration. Discovery. Simple living.

Life sure is good when wilderness surrounds.

Isaiah cries out concerning Israel:

“Though the number of the Israelites be like the sand by the sea,

only the remnant will be saved.

For the Lord will carry out

his sentence on earth with speed and finality.”

It is just as Isaiah said previously:

“Unless the Lord Almighty

had left us descendants,

we would have become like Sodom,

we would have been like Gomorrah.”

[Romans 9:27-29 NIV]

Glenn: You're right is nice up here. Especially with you.

Kat: Hate to ruin the peace with a gunshot. Let's just look today.

Glenn: Sure. So, I know you from the gym, and that's it. What do you do?

Kat: Oh... I freelance.

The pause and vague response piques Glenn's curiosity.

Glenn has finally gotten a date with Kat.* Once he found out she was an outdoors enthusiast he tried many ploys to get her on a hunting date.

And now, in the giant redwoods of the Paprihaven Sports Reserve, here she is with him.

Glenn: This is a good vantage point.

Kat: It's so peaceful up here.

It takes one short rock climb up, one short slab scramble and a rope assisted down climb just to get to the entrance, but always worth the visit. This image is looking out at the wall on the opposite side of the Colorado RIver. Because the Grotto never sees the sun, it's always cool (or down right cold), and because there is a necessary swim across this pool to reach it's inner sanctum, we call it "Shiver Grotto".

BIBLICAL CONTEXT: Hebrews 12:14-17 NLT

(from biblegateway.com)

14 Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord. 15 See to it that no one falls short of the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many. 16 See that no one is sexually immoral, or is godless like Esau, who for a single meal sold his inheritance rights as the oldest son. 17 Afterward, as you know, when he wanted to inherit this blessing, he was rejected. Even though he sought the blessing with tears, he could not change what he had done.
