About two years ago saw him for the first time, but was unable to get a photo at that time. But back on May the 15th of this year I finally accomplish that feat. ā¤ļø š

Another photo of my Special Newly Discovered, and BEAUTIFUL "Bantum's White Privileged Redwing Blackbird. Personally I believe this birds father may have been an American Bald Eagle? Ya don't get any more American than that. šŗšø š
I wanted to make sure I actually got a photo of him this time so as soon as I had take a few shots with my Z7, I put it down and picked up my favorite camera, can you imagine, the D7200. Yes, it's a DX and I actually still think that series of camera's are the best wildlife camera's you can buy. I know the D850 is probably everybody dream camera, as well as the D800 and D500. But look at the detail in some of my earlier photo's here on Flickr and you can see for yourself.
You can get more bang for your buck, if you pick up a D7000 - D7500. They're so cheap you could afford to have a half dozen with you on your next wildlife shoot with the money you'll save trying to get the ultimate Nikon, which of course is the Z7 or Z7 II which are really the same camera but with an extra card slot, or the ever popular D850. But when you've had the dream team, and your older photo's that pre-date those wonderful technological masterpieces, still knock your socks off, think of the money you'd of saved had we just listened to the Lord, "about being satisfied with what we have". "The grass is always greener somewhere else." I guess that's what drives the economy. The number one thing in my humble opinion is the glass in front of those high-tech camera's. Do yourself a favor and buy one you can actually pick up without hiring a "Crane Operator" to hold it up for you, or mortgaging the family home so you can purchase one, if you have a family home that. :^D
As a wise man once said, "Confession is good for the sole, but not so good on the reputation." I digress.
This bird just knocked my socks off when I first clapt eyes on him. I've been trying to get a glimpse of him again ever since. Nothing can out do an in-person sighting justice, photo's can't compete with the picture you have in your own mind once having seen it, that drives you still deeper into the "Wondrous World of Photography"... Keep up your quest for excellence.

I believe I've discovered a new subspecies of "Red-winged blackbird" and naturally I'm going to name him after myself, and I'm not sure of what that process might entail. If anybody with the information on that process, I'd very much like to know. Meanwhile, I've taken the liberty calling him. "Bantum's-White Privileged Red Winged Blackbird". I took photo's with two different camera's and lenses in a heated rush for safety sake. Mine... He not only has a white head, but his tail has white on it and so do the edges of his wings, he's so BEAUTIFUL, you'd really have to see him personally to see all the detail with your own eyes. šŗšø š
I saw this bird for the first time about 2 years ago. I was nearly killed trying to get a picture him. But try as I did, I wasn't able to catch a glimpse of him again till yesterday afternoon, which again was another life threatening experience. But with the help of God, I got several photo's. More to follow once I go through the process above. And I've not stopped trying to view him again of course, but I'm not having any success in doing so. He's hard to find in a sea of blackbirds at a distance, as you can well imagine, not to mention a line of 18 wheelers coming straight at you and on your bumper none stop with no where to go on this very narrow 2 lane road... š®

'The Secret Relationship Between Blacks and Jews, Volume Three, The Leo Frank Case, The Lynching of a Guilty Man', was published on April 26, 2016), in book format by the Nation of Islam Research group (www.NOIRG.org) and in audiobook form by The American Mercury (www.TheAmericanMercury.org). This monograph is a unique part of the larger 3-part encyclopedic series, and it represents the best old fashioned scholarly research on the Leo Frank criminal case, ever produced, at the time. The book was published 103 years exactly--on the anniversary of Little Mary Phagan's slaughter, having occurred long ago on April 26, 1913. The audiobook was published two years later in 2018 in a weekly series of 29-parts.
The book is now more relevant than ever in this age of #MeToo where sexual abuse is becoming less taboo to talk about or victims are openly speaking out to the public and authorities. Many high profile and powerful men are serving lengthy sentences for their habitual sexual molestation of women; some of the more well-known modern names of serial rapists are Harvey Weinstein, Bill Cosby, Jeffrey Epstein, and too many others to name... The #MeToo movement continues to expose the indecent molestation-assaults and sexual harassment women and boys face at the hands of Hollywood producers, and Broadway milieu. The #MeToo revelation is even more prevalent within and outside these vertical industries than previously thought.
Widespread Jewish pedophilia is hopefully becoming the last taboo. Growing up in the Jewish community with two faithful parents, I was lucky, they kept a watchful eye on me. The biggest barrier to stopping this unspeakable Judaic cultural phenomenon was its enablers and dismissers. There were too many child molester dismissers and blind-eye enablers, who would become incensed when reports of inappropriate contact were levied. These sentinels worked to stymie such reports from ever reaching the appropriate authorities outside our secular and spiritual community. "Keep it in the family" was the attitude Rabbis and others in similar top positions of power maintained. The fact that academic pedigreed university profs, famous journalists, pundits, and defense attorneys are willing to make false statements defending pedophiles--even at the risk of destroying their reputation--is so common today, it almost seems impossible to believe. But the Internet provides many examples.
You can thank the multitudes of academic pseudo-scholars like Leonard Dinnerstein (Leo M. Frank and the American Jewish community, 1968 and The Leo Frank Case, 1968); children's book writer, Elaine Marie Alphin (The prosecution and persecution of Leo Frank, 2010); Law professor Donald Wilkes (Flagpole Magazine) and the Samuels' (Night Fell on Georgia, 1956) for using chicanery and tainted evidence to defend the indefensible, putting religion over justice, to sway public opinion. There will be long-winded papers on their chicanery forthcoming, now that we have used computers to scan all of their written works and A.I. algorithms to evaluate them. With semantic computer technology, we have busted wide open the 100-year conspiracy of academic fraud by Frank's defenders.
I fully support people having the freedom to believe Leo Frank is innocent, guilty, or part of connivance, but what I donot condone are my coreligionists misleading people, while simultaneously suppressing the trial testimony, repeating the falsehoods of fellow-travelers without inquiring into their veracity, and consciously lying about the trial and appeals. Even worse is the tendency of my fellow Jews to call people anti-Semites or anti-Semitic for disagreeing with them. These mendacious charlatans who hide behind their academic credentials and ethnoreligious prejudice, have done irreparable harm to our understanding of history. It's one thing to believe Leo Frank is innocent, but to use well-known dupery to sustain that position is untenable.
It is an ultimate betrayal of collegiate integrity standards, for groups of academics, during their tenured careers, to create an ongoing legacy of conspiring to nefariously design the central orthodoxy of counterfeit history to self-serve Jewish ethnocentric interests at the expense of truth. My $15,000 computer scanning technology machinery that turns books into optical character recognition text and separate N-gram data mining algorithms have made it pretty clear which academic and journalist authors are part of this ugly conspiracy to give only one side of the case a voice.
We can now trace the semantic genealogy of the entire body of written treatments on the Leo Frank case, all with the help of the Library of Congress archives as a source. Hopefully, we can counter their lopsided team efforts, to bring in more balance and nuance for the future bearing who have a right to access all sides of the case. Leo Frank's transfiguration, beautification, and deification must be given a coat-hanger abortion if we are to return to sanity when reviewing the brief of evidence without any ethnocentric emotion, and without any Jewish or Gentile intersectional agendas. We must commit to letting the evidence determine the probable truth, not commit to his innocence or guilt through the fiat of tribalism, and then manipulate the facts of the case to retrofit our predetermined conclusions.
I am calling on for students to step forward with no ethnic or religious loyalties to review the Atlanta daily newspaper reports, the trial transcript of long-hand testimony, the evidence conferred before, during and after the trial, the exhibits, and the post-trial appeals, with no hidden motivations or preconceived ideas. Frank's guilt or innocence can no longer be the starting point, but only the final conclusion.
Although I personally find the occasional belligerent racism against Whites and anti-Semitism against Jews by the Nation of Islam to be truly detestable, they still produced one of the most erudite research volumes on the Leo Frank case. No one, including myself (I apologize for my anti-Gentilism and bigotry of low expectations), expected them to have the ability to dispassionately put-together the golden benchmark with respect to producing such a deeply insightful and far-reaching book on the Frank-Phagan affair. If the Secret Relationship series wasn't excellent, the ADL would never have written about it on their website, with inset images of the book's cover. If the Secret Relationship series wasn't excellent the ADL and SPLC would not have pressured Jeff Bezos to have it removed from Amazon books.
This 2016 tome sets the highest watermark of history books on the Leo Frank trial and its aftermath. Before hand, Steve Oney had been given the unofficial title of having written the definitive book on the Leo Frank case since 2003 for 13 years. Before Oney was given that title, academic con artist Leonard Dinnerstein held it since 1968 with his forgery called, "The Leo Frank Case."
Journalist-author Steve Oney's 2003 sophistry on the same hot topic is impressive by comparison to this 2016 treatment, but when it comes to the incriminating hard facts, he is severely lacking any integrity. But he sure knows how to turn a phrase! Most of Oney's claims about that sensational summer trial in 1913, while assertive and authoritative, can not be supported by the evidence.
The Nation of Islam's book, however, provides everything Oney left out of his treatment. I regret to say, Oney did not have the manhood or testicular fortitude to properly contextualize the Frank epic. Oney's book is a good money maker, ensuring him a lengthy backpacker's bus pass on the synagogue circuit, but it betrays dispassionate historiography. I agree with ADL's Charles Wittenstein (deceased) in this respect, that Oney's elephantine treatment can only be regarded as a more polished journalese version of the quasi-scholarship put out by Leonard Dinnerstein, Robert Seitz Frey, Elaine Marie Alphin, Matthew Bernstein, The Samuelses' and other authors who delved significantly into the Phagan-Frank saga.
The NOI's book debunks a plethora of Frankite charades which continue to persist today. I do not agree with their Black nationalist politics (I reject all nationalism, including Jim Crow Zionism), but it is undeniable their Volume 3 is the finest we have today on a subject which refuses to be forgotten. It represents the closest we have come today on contextualizing what really happened in the early 1910s and uncovers the lies that were invented to rehabilitate Leo Frank in a marching basis. Even after being exposed as hoaxes, they continue to be replayed for barratry. And the barratry continues at this very late date, in 2020, the Frankites are seeking to get the D.A. of Atlanta to recommend Leo Frank get a new trial. They even have an unnamed judge who will declare a mistrial for Leo Frank a century after he died.

The Judaic agitator and pseudo-historian Leonard Dinnerstein (1934-2019) published several editions of his propaganda book The Leo Frank Case---during a lengthy career as an activist professor---beginning with the 1968 first edition by Columbia University Press, and the final kindle edition published in 2008 on Amazon books.
Alan Dershowitz, Former Harvard University Emeritus Professor
Jeffrey Epstein's long-time friend and former modern-day attorney, Alan Dershowitz, wrote The Forward for Dinnerstein's 1991 revised edition of The Leo Frank Case. His forward is a litany of lies. It speaks volumes about his integrity. Almost everything Dershowitz has said about Leo Frank's case has been a tissue of lies. He even made what appears to be a subtle attack against the family of the victim in his closing sentences in that Forward. Dershowitz is a dictionary photo of the stereotypical bottom-feeding attorney.

Southern Knights: Scandal Then and Now.
Alan Dershowitz also appeared in a 1999 Canadian Antgentile propaganda documentary called 'Southern Knights' (documentary link provided below) where HE accused the trial jury who decided Leo Frank's fate, as being a mob. Likely because Dershowitz didn't like the outcome and Jews consider it safe to make racist accusation against non-Jewish Whites who they compete against for power. In his twisted mind, the jury's defamation is to be backdated based on their decision. Had they voted in Frank's favor they wouldn't have been backdated a "mob". The White Supremacist Jew has a binary view of the world, you're either with us or you're a terrorist.
Dershowitz in both cases, 1991, and 1999, made counter-factual comments about the jury and Leo Frank's trial hearing to deceive the common folk into thinking a Black man did the dirty deed. The calumniation utilized by Leo Frank's defenders, to mendaciously fool the public, and fabricate consensus that Frank got a raw deal in the courthouse--when there is no legitimate evidentiary basis for coming to those denouements--is a betrayal to justice. There can be no justice when the courts are filled with judges and attorneys who put their ethnoreligion, tribe and ancient mythology over justice.
We are calling on the American people to organize themselves into a movement to have Dershowitz disbarred for repeatedly propounding racial hoaxes, racist accusations and grossly false statements about the Leo Frank trial that are unbecoming of someone expected to uphold legal ethics. This disinformation war to control the narrative of history amounts to an ugly form of ethnic warfare against African American people. Jewish groups hiding behind the window dressing of "Civil Rights" have decried the NOI Secret Relationship Book series as being anti-Semitic, likely because it published the transcript of Mary Phagan murder trial evidence and examinations which has never been exhaustively published before by Jewish intellectuals. The suppressed trial testimony the NOI publishes tend to prove the verdict of guilt tendered against Frank was a deductive and common-sense consequence of that evidence, by not only the court's month-long proceedings, but it was also sustained by the Supreme Courts (state and federal) who both voted in their supra-majority decisions against there being technical errors at the trial.
No one is accusing the Georgia Supreme Court of being an Antisemitic mob, when they said Leo Frank's guilt was sustained by the trial transcript and exhibits. Dershowitz lied in Dinnerstein's forward and so did Jewish groups every time they say "Knights of Mary Phagan". This self-aggrandizing lie about the Knights of Mary Phagan persists in Jewish supremacist circles today as a trick to fool Black people into thinking Jews are our allies against the Klan, when their alliship is performative only. Jews disproportionately owned Black slaves prior to 1865 (Secret Relationship, V. 1 & 2). The posse that lynched Frank called themselves the 'Vigilance Committee', not "The Knights of Mary Phagan" which the latter was a moniker conjured up in the fake news media in 1915. This fact is exposed inside Volume-3. Not once did the men who lynched the kiddy diddling Leo M. Frank ever call themselves "The Knights of Mary Phagan". Dershowitz lied or is conveniently misinformed. There is no documentation William Simmons ever said anything about the second resurrection of the KKK being founded because of Leo Frank or the so-called "Knights of Mary Phagan".
Dreyfus Wasn't Framed

Dreyfus wasn't railroaded, his indefatigable tribe just successfully engaged in the same kind of chicanery which was engaged in during the failed attempts for Frank's faux vindication. In each of the Dreyfus and the Frank affairs, they were duly convicted and a review of the evidence proves they were guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. Frank didn't escape the gallows, the state got him in the end and trumped the grifter, Governor John Slaton. Governor John Slaton owned the law firm that represented Leo Frank at his child rape murder trial. There was no carnival atmosphere, the appeals courts ruled in their decisions he had a fair trial. The only carnival behavior was Leo Frank's mom jumping up in court making anti-Gentile slurs at prosecutor Hugh Dorsey, calling him a Christian Dog.
Hopefully, there will be a future volume in the Secret Relationship series on the Dreyfus Case. Dreyfus was not framed-up, he was just one of the lucky ones who escaped justice through subversion and big money. Just because Jewish intellectuals mobbed the Dreyfus case in his defense and later re-wrote history, doesn't make the man innocent, any more than Leo Frank. This is the problem we have about treason and criminal cases anent Jews, they crowd them out and make it impossible to get at the truth, but the Internet age has changed all that. They no longer have a monopoly on history.
No one sang the Ballad of Mary Phagan outside the Leo Frank trial, that's another hoax by Leo Frank's international Congregationalists to hoodwink the public into believing the fake news that Leo Frank didn't have a fair trial. Abraham Foxman promoted the same racial hoax on the ADL website in 2005, and we hate the screen captures.

There's nothing unpredictable about an unscrupulous politician commuting his own rich client's capital punishment. Everyone now knows Leo Frank's lead defense attorney, Luther Rosser, was law partner of Governor John M. Slaton. That's not a fact Dershowitz would like any of his co-conspirators to highlight.
Black Lives Matter
The international Black Lives Matter movement will be taking up this case of Mary Phagan because one big suppressed fact of this true-crime is that Leo Frank during the last 2-years of his life, and his coreligionists in lockstep, all along, have tried to frame 2 black men for the rape-murder of the little Phagan child. Crowds inside the courtroom shouted anti-Jewish epithets, and demanded Frankās death. The smell of the lynch mob was in the air.
The Stateās star witness was a black maintenance worker at the factory which Frank managed and at which Mary Phagan worked. He testified that Frank killed the young girl and ordered him to dispose of the body. When the jury convicted Frank, it was the first time in memory that a white man had been convicted of murder on the basis of uncorroborated testimony of a black witness. This apparent advance in racial justice was explained away by a local observer who said: āThat wasnāt a white man convicted by that Nā¦ās testimony. It was a Jew.ā
Predictably, Frank was convicted, sentenced to death and denied relief on appeal, despite some critical dissenting words from Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes. Unpredictably, the Governor of Georgia decided to commute Frankās death sentence and leave him to serve out a term of life imprisonment. That appeared to be a great victory for Frank and his many supporters around the country, since the evidentiary foundation underlying Frankās conviction was beginning to crumble as a result of the discovery of new evidence strongly suggesting that it was the governmentās star witness ā and not Frank ā who had killed the victim. It seemed only a matter of time before Frank would be freed from his imprisonment.
In order to prevent Frankās freedom, several of the ābestā citizens of Georgia ā including a minister, two former Supreme Court Justices, and an ex-sheriff ā decided to take the law into their own hands. They constituted themselves as a vigilante committee and let it be known that they intended to kidnap Frank from prison and lynch him. Despite some perfunctory efforts by prison authorities to protect Frank, the lynch mob had little difficulty breaking into the prison and kidnapping Frank. It was obvious that at least some of the prison authorities were in on the plan. Frank was taken to Marietta, where he was lynched. Everyone knew exactly who was involved in the lynching ā indeed some members of the lynch mob boasted about their participation and gave interviews to the press. Photographs of the lynching and souvenir pieces of the rope were sold throughout Georgia. Nonetheless, the coronerās jury investigating the murder of Leo Frank concluded that it was unable to identify any of the perpetrators. This was typical of lynchings in the South during that era. The only difference is that this victim was not black.
There is a fascinating and largely unknown ethical story behind the public legal story of the Frank case. I use it as a teaching vehicle in my course on legal ethics. It turns out that while Leo Frank was on death row, one of Atlantaās most prominent lawyers learned that Frank was innocent and that another man ā presumably the governmentās star witness ā was the killer. We do not know for certain whether the real killer confessed directly to the lawyer, or to another lawyer who then sought ethical advice from the pillar of the bar. This is the way the eminent lawyer described it in his own writings:
I am one of the few people who know that Leo Frank was innocent of the crime for which he was convicted and lynched. Subsequent to the trial, and after his conviction had been affirmed by the Supreme Court, I learned who killed Mary Phagan, but the information came to me in such a way that, though I wish I could do so, I can never reveal it so long as certain persons are alive. We lawyers, when we are admitted to the bar, take an oath never to reveal the communications made to us by our clients; and this includes facts revealed in an attempt to employ the though he refuses the employmentā¦.The Law on this subject may or may not be a wise law ā there are some who think that it is not ā but naturally since it is the law, we lawyers and the judges cannot honorably disobey it.
The eminent lawyer (and any other lawyer who may have received the real killerās confession in confidence) was forced into the most excruciating legal, ethical and moral dilemma a professional can possibly confront. The ethical rules of the profession are fairly clear. There is no available exception to the rule mandating confidentiality of privileged communications about past crimes. It is not a future crime for a guilty client to remain silent while an innocent man goes to his death for the murder committed by a silent, guilty client. The issue is a bit more complicated if the confessing client was, in fact, the witness who testified against Frank, for the client would then be confessing to perjury. Some courts and commentators have suggested that allowing perjured testimony to remain unrecanted, while the victim of the perjury remains under a death or prison sentence, may constitute a continuing fraud on the court, and thus an exception to the lawyer-client privilege. But that line of authority is hazy at best, and the eminent lawyer did not apparently consider it. He saw the legal and professional ethics issue as simple and straightforward. That still left the moral and personal issue of whether any human being ā regardless of his or her profession ā can and should allow a preventable miscarriage of justice to be carried out, especially in a capital case. My students in legal ethics generally split down the middle over whether they would violate the rules of the profession ā engage in an act of civil disobedience against their own client ā in order to save an innocent non-client.
In a typically lawyer-like way, the eminent lawyer in the real case apparently saw to it that the governor learned the information known to him, but without his own āfingerprintsā being on the communication. This is how he put it: āWithout ever having discussed with Governor Slaton the facts which were revealed to me, I have reason to believe, from a thing contained in the statement he made in connection with the grant of the commutation, that, in some way, these facts came to him and influenced his action.ā But the eminent lawyerās compromise did not work. Although the governor did commute Leo Frankās sentence, he was not able to persuade a vengeful public of Frankās innocence. I doubt that Frank would have been lynched had the eminent lawyer come forward and disclosed his information. Instead, his client would almost certainly have been lynched. The complexity of ethical and moral issues in the law can rarely be resolved by simple compromise solutions of the kind attempted by the lawyer in the Frank case. Indeed some such issues have no entirely satisfactory solutions.
Nearly seventy years after Leo Frankās murder, new evidence of his innocence emerged. An eighty-two-year old man [Alonzo Mann], who had been a youthful eyewitness to events surrounding the killing of Mary Phagan, finally came forward and told what he had seen back in 1913. His evidence contradicted the Stateās star witness and strongly suggested that the murder was committed by that same witness, the black maintenance man. The murderer threatened the young witness with death if he ever mentioned what he had observed, and he did not come forward for all those years. Now, he has told his story and it seems to have persuaded most objective people that Leo Frank was lynched for a crime committed by someone else.
Finally, in 1986 Frank was posthumously pardoned with following official apology: āThe lynching aborted the legal process, thus foreclosing further effort to prove Frankās innocence. It resulted from the State of Georgiaās failure to protect Frank. Compounding the injustice, the State then failed to prosecute any of the lynchers.ā Remarkably, some Georgians continued to resist the pardon.

[Leo Frank Museum Curator Commentary: This Op-Ed-ish open-letter submitted herewithin was sent in by eMail from a reader-subscriber to Flickr who is concerned about the Frank-Phagan affair and a firestorm of controversy which has erupted at Point Park University (P.P.U.) www.pointpark.edu in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. Paul Hennigan the president of PPU has become the epicenter of this squabble for his alleged pro-Jewish/anti-POC handling of the affair. Hot-headed student activists I have spoken with at PPC, using epithets and cringy slurs have mislabelled him a "White privilege supremacist", "Israel Firster", and "Jewish supremacist hate monger". To his defense, he was in a delicate situation where the outcome could only be, "Damned if you do, Damned if you don't", but his actions have once again put the spotlight on "White Privilege", "MeToo", "Black Lives Matter", "BDS" and the "Israel-Palestine conflict".
My apologies in advance for anyone offended by this submitted rant to the editor. I hope this will promote inquisitive dialogue and old fashioned research, not increase bitter partisan social-politics. I hope this recent kerfuffle will give us pause on why we must come together, now more than ever, to deliberate over the facts of this case without vinegary emotions and wound-opening animosities.
As the curator of the Leo Frank Flickr Gallery and resident of Atlanta, I present this public communication to illustrate the increasingly contentious nature over this hotly contested true crime cold case which refuses to get dusty, between Leo Frank's apostolic advocates, versus his modern-day POC and #metoo opponents--in the high hopes of inspiring students and scholars, alike, to calm and productive dialogue-- not angry tirades or accusations of ethnoreligious bigotry (Antisemitism or Antigentilism).
Black Lives Matter and Students of Colour recently launched an organized protest against Point Park University and its chancellor Paul Hennigan, regarding what the protestors believe is a "racist, white-privilege, anti-POC and Jewish supremacist theatrical play", titled, "Parade the Leo Frank Musical". The genealogy of the stage drama, originated on Broadway in central Manhattan, New York City, circa 1998 (December of that year?). And it continues to raise eyebrows and ruffle feathers a generation later.
The question I get asked most often is this: What is "Parade" the Leo Frank Broadway Musical?
The script's theme harkens back to an early twentieth century, Greek tragedy love story, of an out-of-place mundane business accountant in the dramatis persona of a Brooklynite Yankee Jew transplant, who moves to Atlanta, Georgia, so he can operationally manage his uncle Moe's pencil manufacturing facility (a typical assemblage business back then, but what we might call a sweatshop today). As an aside, this industrial concern called 'The National Pencil Company' (NPCo) was actually founded in April of 1908, in real life to give it tactile context, before being sold to a stationery manufacturing company in 1916, as a rebranding effort, due to the deleterious stigma of the child rape-murder scandal having occurred there thrice years earlier in 1913. The lynching of Leo Frank in 1915 probably played a role in refashioning efforts of the NPCo.
The protagonist Mr. Frank, in an arranged marriage, gets married to a Southern Jewish Belle of Patrician stock, Lucille Selig, (in real life they married at their in-law's home in November 1910) but their relationship is cool and at times estranged. Leo M. Frank as a superintendent of the said industrial concern is caught in a maelstrom of contestation because one of his child laborers is slain inside his factory and he is railroaded for the crime in a tumultuous kangaroo court. After the defendant is convicted, sentenced by the presiding judge to capital punishment by the then-common method of hanging. A plot twist materializes at the 11th-hour, surprisingly Frank is given a measure of clemency to escape the gallows by the outgoing Georgia governor (John Slaton), but he must spend life in prison in exchange for his lethality. So the protagonist is incarcerated, and eventually, he is kidnapped and lynched by a mob of flag-waving yahoos. Still, before being abducted and assassinated, he slowly falls in love again with his wife, who stoically supports him through his tribulations, trial, and imprisonment. Music and song throughout weave it all together in a stellar performance. This musical stage-production in a nutshell, captures the colorful theatrics of this tear-jerking dramaturgy.
Black Lives Matter Activists at PPU
The organized PPU student-protestors see this compelling tale (which was primarily written and produced by three Jewish activists, Jason Robert Brown, Harold Prince and Alfred Uhry, using ethnocentric creative-license) as odiously rehabilitating a bonafide White racist degenerate and killer-pedophile, who tried in vain to frame innocent American Blacks (Newt Lee and James Conley) for his own aggravated sexual assault and sadistic homicide of a little girl, one who was barely a teenager. She was in real life, by all local accounts, a sweet, good-natured, 13-year-old child named Mary Anne Phagan, daughter and sibling of an impoverished family residing in East Point, Atlanta.
PPU student protest alliance forms
The PPU student-protestors believe, like many others familiar with the notorious scandal, that SHE is the real victim of this particular affair, not HE, who was duly convicted and lawfully sentenced to hang for the sex murder in 1913. Frank's 1915 commutation and 1986 pardon are seen as an exemplification of White, Jewish, and Ashkenazi privilege by Black Lives Matter devotees and students of colour, because the convicted strangler-pedophile was given a measure of clemency by a governor who formed a lucrative law partnership with Leo Frank's criminal defense attorneys in May of 1913.
There are many people, now more than ever before, who feel very passionately about this hot-button subject concerning Leo Frank's innocence or guilt. Many Jews familiar with the historical narrative believe the real perpetrator was Jim Conley, a black roustabout who worked at the factory for 2 years (1911 - 1913). In contradicting affidavits, Conley said he helped his boss move the body after the sex-murder from the scene of the crime adjacent Frank's office on the manufacturing level (second floor), down to two levels to the basement, in an effort to help throw off the police bloodhounds. Jewish scholars, journalists, researchers, law professors and historians in consensus presuppose Conley helped the Atlanta police and then-district attorney Hugh Dorsey to anti-semitically frame Leo Frank.
Sexual abuse against both the female and male gender has forever been culturally secretive, spoken in hushed tones, until the late 20th and 21st century, when the dispelling of this taboo, caused survivors of forced intimate molestation, to bring this endemic problem fully out into the open in a prolific manner called the #MeToo movement. Many feminists and child molestation victims have taken up the cause to seek justice for little Mary Phagan.
What we need is more discourse between fair-minded arbiters, who can control their personal feelings and look at the case's legal files without pre-determined positions, moreover, without tribal agendas and without goals of convincing people into presupposed belief systems about Leo Frank's guilt or innocence. Conclusions should come last, not first. People should try to review the Phagan murder investigation, with new eyes, and without preconceived beliefs. Let a fresh review of the evidence decide, now that all the legal records of the case have been published on the Internet in 2019/2020.

The BLM (Black Lives Matter) and BDS (Anti-Israel Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions) movement are very controversial in America, so much so that the U.S. Congress and numerous state congresses have passed legal bills against the anti-Israel humanist cause of boycotts, divestment, and sanctions. In some conjunctions, pundits and politicians are suggesting without always using direct language that Black Lives Matter is an anti-Semitic terrorist group. BLM and BDS have seemed to have formed an unholy alliance, albeit a loose one that continues to strengthen.

An Open Letter to Paul Hennigan President of Point Park University,
This open letter is in response to your guest column in the Pittsburg Jewish Chronicle newspaper, on April 8th, 2020, concerning the article titled, "Anti-Semitism in all forms, including BDS, has no place at Point Park". The link to this original article is provided in the footer-section.
Dear Paul Hennigan,
As the president of Point Park University, you have an obligation to rise above the identarianism and politically correct fads of the day for grander and more universal truths that the real purpose of college is not to be a segregated safe-space, where students are mollycoddled, but a place where all of our preconceived notions, biases, and basic assumptions are to forever be challenged--that is, if we are to evolve upward and self-actualize as individual students among our species of the human family.
Your petty partisan politics and taking sides with the ethnic-religious group of Jews over non-Jews, men over women, and people of European descent over POC, whether they be White, Black, or every shade in between, is lowbrow and unbecoming of a University president. Have you no self-reflection? Have you no introspection? Have you no understanding that as a president of an institution of higher learning, you are to promote coming together for dialogue, not censorship, and thus rising above such intersectional divisions? White men of the Jewish faith should not be regarded as a protected overclass, with everyone else, women, girls, POC, and others treated as beneath them. Shame on you, Paul Hennigan! It's time that you step down as president of Point Park University, you are clearly unfit for the position. Do the right thing and step down!
Leo Frank, Innocent or Guilty?
Who are you to say Leo Frank was wrongfully accused when you didn't even read the official trial and appeals records? Just because a fictional drama written by White men who are of Jewish descent, decide to make their co-gender and co-religionist Leo Frank innocent, doesn't mean he was in real life. Soap-operas on stage, based on creative-license, seldom align with reality when they pertain to complex legal cases. Stage dramas seldom dictate reality.
In courts of law, facts and testimony are supposed to come before conclusions, but in your reactionary one-sided world view, apparently, conclusions come first and forget about sifting the evidence. As president of a university, it is your duty to promote that students seek facts over fashions of the day, not the prejudice and passion of our White and Jewish overlords. You did just that when you stated in your article to the Jewish Chronicle that Leo Frank was essentially framed. In saying that you are perpetuating systemic racism and doing it by hiding behind Judaism as your sword and shield.
You sided with an effete libertine who wailed his fists into the face of a 4'11" tall kid who refused to submit her virtue this grown man, not to mention he was married. Mary Phagan might be a cheap plot device to you in the production of "Parade the Leo Frank Broadway Musical", but in real life, she was a real-life person who toiled her youth away in a dingy sweatshop and died violently after being sodomized by a habitual pervert and fiend name Leo Max Frank, Leo M. Frank or just Leo Frank if you prefer brevity. Why is no one allowed to think Leo Frank is guilty without being falsely accused of being anti-Semitic? This atrocious behavior by White privilege supremacists of Jewish faith equating anti-Semitism with criticism of Jews and Israel must be smashed. The so-called White liberal allies are also part of this problem too for enabling this quackery.

Paul, that cheap plot device and throw away detail of the play could have been your Mother, your wife, your daughter, your sister, your friend, or any other close relation to you, but in your dismissive mind, she is never once mentioned in your article, as if her existence was never actually physical. Well guess what? She's not a throw-away detail or cheap plot device any more, we are taking up the Leo Frank case as a major issue of Black Lives Matter. We need university presidents who will rise above their own religious (Jewish), gender (Male), and racial (White) biases in search of leaders who embody impartiality when it comes to reviewing evidence, testimony, exhibits, paradigms, and structures. You failed miserably to be impartial when you played the race card invoking anti-Semitism (Racistly Weaponizing it) when it is totally uncalled for. In fact even in 1986, when Leo Frank was posthumously pardoned, he was NOT officially exonerated of his conviction for the Mary Phagan sodomy/slaying. The lynching of thirty-one-year-old Leo Frank on August 17, 1915, was a heinous vigilante crime and extrajudicial assassination, but it does not make him innocent of the aggravated assault, sodomy, and strangulation-slaying of that thirteen-year-old little girl. The one Frank tried to put the crime on two different Black men who had no part in that rape-killing.
It's sad that something like that needs to even be said to an adult such as yourself. When inmates are killed while under incarceration it does not backdate the concocted nullity of their jury verdicts. You would think this understanding would be basic logic and common sense for a man in your position.
Leo Frank being kidnapped from the Milledgeville penitentiary and lynched near the border-zone of Marietta & Atlanta, does not overturn his jury verdict. No inmate killed in prison, or ex-con killed after they serve their time, gets their conviction overturned without compelling evidence to their innocense. As of today, no evidence has come forward to exonerate Leo Franks. And it doesn't matter how many Leo Frank's pseudo-historian activists write books, about his innocence through the academic tools of phonying-up history, using fake news in the press and mainstream media, "scholarly" cherry-picking or forging parts of the trial transcripts. He still is a guilty man. The Georgia supreme court in 1914, when the full events were fresh in their minds, ruled the evidence, testimony and exhibits presented during his days in court sustained his guilt--that's not something you Frankies want to be made known to the public, but it is an incontrovertible fact. Stop SUPPRESSING IT!
Maybe it's time you stop groveling and pitting one group of people against others (weaponizing anti-Semitism), to take the time for actually reading the Leo Frank Georgia Supreme Court records. Ya, Think?
When serial pedophiles-rapists are murdered as they are often when serving life in prison, it does not retroactively reverse their convictions. It doesn't make their own murder justice either. Murder is murder, even if some people think it might be poetic justice. Many people think Leo Frank's lynching was poetic justice because he died being strangled to death, in a similar way that he strangled Mary Phagan to death, but murder is never justice. Jim Conley, on the other hand, confessed to being an accessory-after-the-fact, who helped remove the dead body of Mary Phagan from the machine-department's toilets, the ones located at the rear section in the second floor of National Pencil Company's building, down to a catacomb-like basement, two floors below. He described those events in detail to the jury on August 4, 5, and 6 of 1913. The way he described thing had a ring of truth, especially in light of Leo Frank's trial statement to the jury on August 18, 1913, about his "UNCONSCIOUS" visit to the male toilets in the rear of the second floor to account for why Monteen Stover found his business office vacant.
COME ON, Think about that for a minute, Jim Conley said he found Mary Phagan dead near the toilets in the metal room, on August 4, 5, and 6th of 1913, and Leo Frank sustained that by saying he had gone to those toilets at the time he told police he was alone with Mary Phagan in his office. I gave you a distilled overview of that circumstantial evidence, but its up to you now to learn why it was significant at the Mary Phagan trial where Leo Frank was the defendant.
On BDS, Boycotts, Divestments, and Sanctions
Only in tyrannical authoritarian countries do people get chastised with threats or punished harshly for criticizing their governments and its leadership, or the government's allies (in this sense it's Israel). By trying to equate criticism and economic boycott of Israel for its longstanding civil rights violations, with accusations of anti-Jewish racism or bigotry (anti-Semitism) is disgusting. BDS is not anti-Semitic, in the same way, fighting against Apartheid is not anti-White. And that counts no matter how much BDS is misrepresented by supporters of Israel. Palestinians are Semites too, not just the Israeli's.
Is fighting for human and civil rights anti-Semitic for Palestinians when Palestinians themselves are Semitic? You use the term anti-Semitic as a misnomer and as a word to bully people who seek out a peaceful two-state solution with respect to the Israel-Palestine conflict. Shame on you Paul Hennigan for taking the side of the White Supremacist colonial regime in Israel, at least you could try to be balanced and give the other side a voice too.
Absolutely NO government or political body on this planet that we call home, live on and share with each other--in the past, present or future--is above criticism and protest for its injustices. Freedom to protest, speak out and boycott is the very hallmark of the first amendment, which all Americans have a right to that freedom of speech and peacefully protesting with their mouths and wallets. People have a first amendment right to promote boycotting Israel because of its war crimes, segregational practices, and Jim crow racist laws.
Anti-BDS laws are being struck down in courts all over America as being unconstitutional. I think your letter should right now inspire us to double down and press even harder to have every single example of anti-BDS laws struck down in the USA. Paul, You can take that to the bank and cash it.

The controversial topics listed above about the Israel-Palestine conflict are not so controversial, since they are very well documented and there are hundreds of scholarly academic books on these subjects, 10s of thousands of images and videos to back up these statements of Israel's inhumane abuses over the last 72 years. It doesn't get much publicity, but the UN has passed many dozens of international resolutions against Israel for the above list of its actions cited broadly. Wikipedia is an excellent entry point, but not the last word on the matter. If you would like to begin with an introductory lesson about these socio-political topics in detail, which are in the hundreds of pages of reading material, to start, go to Wikipedia. The whole world uses it as a starting point to learn about the Israel-Palestine conflict. As an administrator on Wikipedia, I can tell you these articles have millions of page views combined since their inception.
As the president of Point Park University, your job is to promote open dialogue about the Palestinian-Israel conflict, not try to scare one side into being silent with your odious insinuations, defamatory rhetoric, and false accusations of anti-Semitism conflated with those who wish to speak out against Israel and sanction it economically for its inexcusable violations of the Geneva convention.
You clearly do not have the temperament to be a president of a university if you are siding with a pariah which thumbs its nose at international law, and the global community of 193 nation-states, regarding ethnic cleansing and racial persecution, through collective punishment against Palestinians. #BlackLivesMatter from Gaza to the West Bank to New York to LA.
As the president of Point Park University, you should be promoting freedom of speech, and the right of people to challenge basic assumptions or preconceived notions, not siding with the war criminals in Israel's government and military. The boycott, divestment, and sanctions (BDS) movement have every right to criticize and promote economic preference toward or against the government of Israel for its 72 years pattern of committing mass murder, collective punishment and human rights violations in the extreme against the Palestinian people.
We are also stating this does not give Palestinian terrorism a free pass either. Terrorists should be dealt with harshly, but when Palestinian terrorists killed 6 Israeli's they responded by murdering 3000 Palestinian civilians, the majority of whom were civilian women and children. That's an example of collective punishment and it is a violation of the Geneva convention. People have a right to protest against such military abuses, and the make the decision to boycott Israel over it. You don't control our wallets and the African-American economy is $1 trillion dollars.
Misrepresenting the BDS movement and it's goals of promoting a two-state solution, is something very commonly orchestrated by those who are apologists and enablers for Israel's crimes against humanity. Falsely conflating the BDS movement with anti-Semitism does not make the BDS movement anti-Semitic. No matter how numerous false statements and fake news are made about BDS.
In fact, there is a very sizeable portion of American Jews who are members of BDS, and the whole point of BDS is not to end Israel, but to mend Israel, and to achieve a viable two-state solution with the Greenline as the border, not the one-state solution the present right-wing identarian government of Israel is slowly creating. News flash, the United Nations recognizes the borders of Israel as within its own 1967 Greenline and the State of Palestine as within its own 1967 Greenline. That's not controversial, it's based on international law, and the United States and Israel ratified themselves as members of the United Nations and to respect International Law.
The Leo Frank Case
Paul Hennigan, You stated inside your article, "wrongly accused Jewish man, Leo Frank, in Georgia in 1915".
Leo Frank was not wrongly accused in 1913. You are not a jury or judge, especially since you didn't even bother to read the trial transcript published in the newspapers or the brief of evidence published in the Georgia supreme court files.
You are most certainly not the Supreme Court of Georgia, which stated emphatically the evidence at the Mary Phagan murder trial sustained Leo Frank's guilt and that he had a fair trial. You are not the US Supreme Court which in both majority and unanimous decisions which decided against Leo Frank's frivolous appeals.
Can't we have more than one side, to this case? You are just one man, who is taking sides with Jewish activist talking points, without actually reading the Leo Frank trial brief of evidence. We need an open forum to study the true crime nature of the case in the daily papers, and dry leaves of the musty trial transcript from the Georgia public records office.
Shame on you for your religious partisan bigotry and ethnic biases, without even reading the primary sources of the trial. You are allowed to have an opinion, but shouldn't you at least have a basic understanding of the courtroom proceedings that took place between July 28th and August 26th, 1913 ?
As the president of Point Park University, you should actually read the 1913 Leo Frank trial brief of evidence and appeals records (1913, 1914, 1915) before making such uninformed statements. It's un-academic, and un-scholarly, to make such statements when you, in fact, never read the legal transcripts which were transcribed and published in the newspaper accounts from Atlanta Georgia in late July through late August in 1913. The questions and answers of the trial are in the Atlanta Constitution, Atlanta Georgia and Atlanta Journal in their following daily newspaper columns in those papers.
Making such statements that Leo Frank was wrongly accused, is a great injustice and unbecoming a president at an institution of higher learning when you add scary censorship to that and a climate of fear about people being labeled. So before you make potentially false statements about the Leo Frank case, you might want to actually do the summer reading assignment first (reading the trial papers and appeals papers), because it's obvious you haven't and you're embarrassing yourself when double-down on it.
We would like a public debate on the case, please to who ever in the administration will hear the students.

As we all have been focused on the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic that has upended our lives, I wish everyone in our community good health and safety. Also, I want to ask for your attention on another very important matter, which is anti-Semitism and groups such as the boycott, divestment and sanctions (BDS) movement.
I have listened to several conversations over the last few weeks that have highlighted concerns from the Jewish community in Pittsburgh regarding Point Park University, anti-Semitism and the BDS movement.
As the president of Point Park University, I want to assure the Jewish community that at every level of the university and across the university campus it is understood that any form of discrimination or hatred is not tolerated. All forms of anti-Semitism, which includes support for the BDS movement, generally defined as Palestinian-led campaign promoting various forms of boycott against Israel, has no place at Point Park University.
Recently, I was able to have meaningful discussions and an exchange of ideas with Jeff Finkelstein and Josh Sayles from the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh, Jim Busis, CEO and publisher of the Pittsburgh Jewish Chronicle, as well as other prominent members of the Jewish community. Point Park is continuing these outreach efforts with representatives of the local and national Jewish community, as well as with Chabad and Hillel Jewish University Center in Pittsburgh.
In discussions with Jeff and Josh, I understand that my decision to postpone Point Parkās production of the important work āParadeā needs to be more publicly addressed. As many of your readers know, āParadeā is the award-winning musical about the trials and lynching of a wrongly accused Jewish man, Leo Frank, in Georgia in 1915. It was to be directed by Tony- and Emmy-winning director choreographer Rob Ashford.
I made the difficult decision to postpone āParadeā because, in my judgment, proper educational and university community resources were not in place to support this important piece of work. In no way did I intend to signal to the community that the production was canceled or that the Jewish story could not be told at Point Park. Point Park is fully committed to presenting āParadeā and fully supports its importance to social awareness and societal change. This experience has provided us a broader opportunity to take a holistic approach at how each conservatory program can be a teachable moment and opportunity for engagement and understanding around social and civic issues expressed through art.
In a similar vein, it has come to our attention that some members of the Jewish community are aware that Dr. Channa Newman ā a professor of French and cultural studies and chair of the department of humanities and social sciences ā recently filed a lawsuit against Point Park in which it is claimed, among other allegations, that she has been discriminated against and harassed as a result of her age, national origin, race, religion, and sex. Dr. Newman also claims that she has been retaliated against. Because the matter is now in litigation and out of respect for Dr. Newmanās continuing relationship with the university, Point Park must limit any public comment.
This being stated, the University disagrees with the allegations of unlawful conduct raised by Dr. Newman and her attorneys ā including their description of how the university and some of its faculty treated Dr. Newman and responded to her concerns. In the administration of its educational programs, activities and employment practices, Point Park is firmly committed to the concept and practice of equal employment opportunity and the pursuit of diversity. As part of this commitment, the university embraces, supports and actively pursues a policy of inclusiveness that recognizes, values and reflects the diversity of the community it serves and the world in which we live.
Going forward, Point Park intends to defend itself against Dr. Newmanās claims. At the same time, she remains, as mentioned, a member of the Point Park community who will be afforded the respect and dignity afforded to all students, faculty, and staff.
In times of crisis, particularly in the aftermath of the Oct. 27, 2018, massacre at the Tree of Life synagogues, Point Park University joined with the Jewish community, WQED and others to foster a dialogue of sensitivity and understanding. It is Point Park Universityās continued mission to shine light on challenges, bring understanding to the table and open doors for all.āPJC

Point Park University announced Wednesday that the student production of āParadeā that was planned for April has been āpostponed indefinitely.ā
The award-winning musical is about the trials and lynching of a wrongly accused Jewish man, Leo Frank, in Georgia in 1918. It was to be directed by Tony- and Emmy-winning director-choreographer Rob Ashford, a Point Park alumnus (Class of ā83) who was awarded an honorary doctorate of humane letters in 2010.
Mr. Ashford has been involved in discussions regarding the show throughout the process of making this decision, said Chris Ann Hayes, a Point Park spokeswoman, who added that Ashford is traveling in Asia and unavailable for comment.
āPoint Park looks forward to welcoming Rob to campus to engage with the students sometime in the spring,ā she said.
Students in Point Park's Conservatory of Performing Arts theater program have threatened a walkout unless their demands to address racial and gender insensitivity are addressed. Their concerns have already forced the cancellation [of the musical].

Conservatory Theatre students, who previously forced the cancellation of the provocative musical āAdding Machine,ā took issue with āParadeā because it concludes that the guilty party in the rape and murder of 13-year-old Mary Phagan was James Conley, a black janitor and Frankās main accuser. That conclusion is based on historical research but has never been proven.
There are few minority roles in the musical, which is another point made by the students. The Tony award-winning book for āParadeā was written by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Alfred Uhry (āDriving Miss Daisyā), whose great uncle owned the factory where Frank and Phagan worked.
The Point Park students will instead present āPippin,ā which was a 1973 best musical nominee and the 2013 Tony winner as best musical revival.
Paul Hennigan, president of Point Park, said in a statement: āOver the past three weeks, leaders of the Pittsburgh Playhouse at Point Park University and the Conservatory of Performing Arts have held wide-ranging, honest discussions with students, faculty, and staff regarding issues of diversity, inclusion, and equity.
āAs we continue our dialogue and work together to enhance the culture at Point Park in a way that will lead to a more inclusive community, we have made the decision to postpone indefinitely our production of the show āParade,ā which was scheduled for April.ā
Mr. Hennigan began meeting with students after they made a list of demands following a troubled audition and rehearsal process for āAdding Machine.ā
āIt is clear to me that our priority as a university must be our students, and we cannot allow a production to move forward that could overshadow our educational and developmental mission,ā the statement said. āWe also would not be serving the best interests of our loyal patrons or the show āParade,ā a widely acclaimed and important musical that generates robust conversation about social awareness and societal change.ā

After āAdding Machineā was canceled, Conservatory students instead performed a āReclaimingā cabaret. That show concluded Saturday at the Pittsburgh Playhouseās Highmark Theatre.
The program was a single page listed the actorsā names with the statement: āWe present to you the cast of āAdding Machine, the Musical,ā the recently canceled Point Park production. The intention of this cabaret is for the students and all those affected to reclaim the process, narrative, and space. Each student has chosen a piece that uniquely fits their meaning of reclaim.ā
The final number was from āPippin,ā assuring that there was still āmagic to do.ā

Point Park University appears to have averted a walkout by Conservatory of Performing Arts Theatre students, who have made demands of school administrators to combat what they see as institutional racial and gender insensitivity.
A list of demands was sent on Nov. 22 and the walkout had been planned for Monday, if certain short-term demands were not met. University president Paul Hennigan and COPA dean Steven Breese will meet with the students Tuesday night, which was one of the conditions to avoid a walkout.
āOur students have the full support of President Hennigan, and he is looking forward to meeting with them and discussing next steps,ā Point Park spokesman Lou Corsaro said. āBoth he and Dean Breese are committed to devoting the time and space necessary for this very important conversation.ā
Student actors aired their grievances Nov. 21 at a town hall meeting ā attended by 200 classmates, staff and faculty ā at Point Parkās Pittsburgh Playhouse, Downtown. As a result, a production of āAdding Machine: The Musical,ā a show based on a 1923 play and including a raw view of societal racism, was canceled.

Point Park promises to address student concerns over diversity, inclusivity, and equity
Students said they felt unsafe and unheard when they expressed concerns about casting and rehearsal practices, as well as the content. Their subsequent list of demands includes āa time and place set for a Conservatory of the Performing Arts Theatre Department meeting on the discussion surrounding āParade.ā ā
The history-based, Tony Award-winning āParadeā is about the lynching of a Jewish man, Leo Frank, wrongly accused of rape and murder, and presents what is considered to be a likely theory of who committed the crime. It also has very few roles specifically for people of color. āParade,ā scheduled for March, would bring back Point Park alumnus Rob Ashford, a Tony- and Emmy-winning director-choreographer who was in the ensemble of the original Broadway production.
The theater season so far has included a production of āGood Grief,ā written by Point Park alum Ngozi Anyanwu, and Shakespeareās āMuch Ado About Nothing,ā directed by alumnus Steven Wilson. āGood Grief,ā which was first produced off-Broadway, was directed at the university by Reginald L. Douglas of City Theatre,
āAdding Machine: The Musicalā was to be directed by Pittsburgh-based Tlaloc Rivas. Tome Cousin, who was to choreograph, has been contacted about helping to put together a cabaret for students who missed out on performing in the production.
Mr. Cousin, a Point Park Distinguished Alumnus who works on productions at both Point Park and Carnegie Mellon University, spoke up at the town hall meeting to give his unique perspective on the schoolās history. He is a founder of the Black Student Union, when Point Park was a college and when there were three minority theater students. The school became a university and there was an enrollment and diversity explosion, Mr. Cousin says, ābut the system didnāt catch up with that, so there are still limited roles to play involving students of color.ā
In the case of āAdding Machine,ā despite a racially diverse creative team, Mr. Cousin agreed with students that āthere was a great insensitivity from the director to the cast in how things were handled, how the language was handled, and so I think it was blown out of proportion from day one about the race issue ā the play is really not about that. ā¦ It became very messy, like a bomb inside of a bomb inside of a bomb.ā
And it exploded into the list of demands, with the threatened student walkout. The Theatre faculty has been made aware of the studentsā demands, as well as a conciliatory response from Mr. Hennigan.

Student protests lead Point Park to postpone 'Parade' musical
After their success with shutting down the production of āAdding Machine,ā students were inspired by protests over racism at other universities, such as Salisbury in Maryland and Syracuse in New York, to continue their protest.
āCurrently, all over the country, the student bodies of different universities are speaking up in healthy ways to begin the conversation of change,ā said the Point Park letter that was āendorsed by the Governing Body of COPA Theatre Club and its constituents, as well as Point Park Universityās Black Student Union.ā
Among the short-term demands already met are the cancellation of āAdding Machineā and the meeting with Mr. Hennigan.
The students also were seeking explanations of how and why productions are chosen. The current season was picked by Rob Allan-Lindblom, a former dean and Playhouse artistic director, who remains on faculty after stepping down from his administrative posts last year. Mr. Breese took over the positions in July.
The students point out that there are no people of color on the theater faculty, although the school invites frequent guest professionals of color.
Students have asked for, and Mr. Breese has already committed to, student participation in future programming choices. They also are looking for some guarantees of sensitivity and inclusivity training for faculty members, as well as an effort āto further diversify our COPA Theatre faculty.ā Another demand states: āIn every audition room and creative team of a show we produce, there needs to be at least one person of color and one woman.ā
Mr. Cousin, the choreographer, has traveled the world to combat tokenism in theater and has written the book āThe Franklin Projectā ā Franklin for the lone Peanuts cartoon character of color. It is subtitled, āInterviews, Essays and Articles on Diversity and Non-Traditional Casting for Theatre Performance.ā
āThere is not one thing these students are asking for that I would not agree with,ā he said.

What with directing Glenn Close in a new movie musical, celebrating the success of āFrozenā on Broadway and having his portrait added to Sardiās Wall of Fame, you wouldnāt think Rob Ashford could find time for a job in Pittsburgh.
Youād be wrong.
The Tony- and Emmy-winning director/choreographer was at the Playhouse Tuesday to announce that he will lead Point Park University Conservatory students in a production of the musical āParade,ā in a just-announced season packed with buzzy projects.
Point Parkās muscle-flexing 2019-20 theater season is built on the strength of its Downtown digs and award-winning alumni such as Ashford (Class of ā83), who will direct Close in the movie musical of Andrew Lloyd Webberās āSunset Boulevard.ā
Other highlights include the premiere of the musical āPump Up the Volume,ā based on the 1990 Christian Slater movie, and āGood Grief,ā the off-Broadway hit by alumnus Ngozi Anyanwu and directed by City Theatreās Reginald L. Douglas.
āPump Up the Volumeā is the second premiere production in collaboration with New York-based RWS Entertainment Group, following āThe Old Man and the Seaā in January.
RWS head Ryan Stana is a Point Park grad, as is Rachel Stevens, who returns to direct āThe Wolves.ā
Florida native Ashford was in Pittsburgh for the opening of the Playhouse and has long been in talks with artistic director Ron Lindblom about returning to the place that gave him his start as a performer.
He proposed āParadeā as the project and said he is grateful that Point Park President Paul Hennigan was onboard quickly.

Ashford has a long history in the development of the award-winning show, about the real-life 1913 lynching of Leo Frank, a Jewish man who was wrongly accused of murder in the South.
āThe idea of blind prejudice against someone youāve never met or donāt know at all, just by the way they look or how they worship ā¦ It seems like now is a very appropriate time to do āParade,ā certainly in Pittsburgh, but also in Charlottesville. Too many places.ā
The Broadway show, directed by Hal Prince, won Tonys for book writer Alfred Uhry and composer Jason Robert Brown, but closed after just 85 performances in 1999.
It was Ashfordās finale as a performer, and it stayed with him as he became an award-winning choreographer.
āI've always felt like āParadeā deserved another life and another look. It's always been with me,ā said Ashford, in a phone conversation from his home in Morocco, days before he traveled to Pittsburgh for the season announcement.
There were more unassuming name drops as he described how he helped reshape the musical that he will direct here. It started with choreographing āGuys and Dolls,ā starring Ewan McGregor and Jane Krakowski, for director Michael Grandage in Londonās West End.
It was Grandage who told him, āāYou do realize you are a director who is working as a choreographer,āā and Grandage, the artistic director of Londonās Donmar Theatre, who gave Ashford his directorial debut: āParade.ā Ashford reimagined the show with a cast of 15 (down from the original 40) by having actors play multiple roles. Uhry and Brown joined him in London, and there were new songs added and cuts made.
āWe created a different version of the show, and that is the version they license now,ā and the version he will direct in Pittsburgh in March 2020.
āWe had high hopesā for a new Playhouse, Hennigan said, when talks began to build it Downtown 15 years ago but nothing quite like the announcement made Tuesday.
Then, nearly four years ago, talks turned from construction to what the Playhouse could be as part of the universityās urban campus.
āWe came up with the concept that it would be not just a performing arts center, but a full-service entertainment center, where we would be constantly creating and bringing in nationally recognized artists into an interdisciplinary facility.ā
Ashford returns to Point Park on the heels of Tony winner Anthony Cervillo, who came to Point Park during the current season to star in the world premiere of āThe Old Man and the Sea.ā
āThe first time Rob Ashford saw the new building, the first thing out of his mouth was, āI want to do something here,āā Hennigan recalled. āAnd Anthony Cervillo said, āI want to come back.ā Thereās something about the building, the vibe, the ethos; itās really really attractive to a lot of people. It has completely surpassed all expectations.ā
Ashford will be in the building on Forbes Avenue presumably after he has finished his movie directorial debut. He has worked as an assistant to Kenneth Branagh on theater and film projects, but heās flying solo for āSunset Boulevard,ā working again with Webber after he choreographed the 2012 Broadway revival of āEvita.ā
The rest of the cast has not yet been announced, but when asked who his dream casting for Joe ā the William Holden role in the movie, opposite Gloria Swanson ā he said, āI canāt tell you that! Theyād kill me.ā
Although the script and full cast arenāt ready yet, he and his star have been busy preparing.
āWe are right in it,ā he said. āShe is super smart and intuitive, as you would imagine, and she is a movie star, but she's not when you are sitting there working ā sheās a working actor. She wants it to be as best it can be. It's about the story, the story, the story.ā
From Glenn Close to Point Park students, Ashford said he is just excited to be coming back.
āI had such a wonderful time in college and working with CLO and Don Brockett and all the other wonderful things I got to do in Pittsburgh. ā¦ Iām always thankful for that and always looking for a way to give back.ā
When he was in Pittsburgh for the opening of the Playhouse in October, he walked around the Pittsburgh Cultural District and discovered for himself that, āThis is a theater town!ā
When he was a student, theater and dance majors by the dozens would have to go back and forth by bus to the old Playhouse in Oakland. Now, with the facility steps away, the Playhouse is busy with students who do all the work, from marketing to getting sponsorships.
āAnd there can be hundreds of students working here up until midnight,ā Point Parkās Hennigan said. āI think it will be one day be going 24/7.ā
Another thing that wasnāt Downtown when Ashford was here in the 1980s, was a certain bakery that has made its way there from Shadyside. It has the one thing that the director-choreographer is most looking forward to from his college days:
āA burnt almond torte from Prantlās,ā he said.

The numerous march Photography Police wore "NO PHOTOGRAPHY" signs on their chest, confusing the general public because there were few other signs than those worn by the Photography Police, making it hard to tell that it was actually a March for Murdered and Missing Indigenous Women, and not an Anti-Photography Protest.
I was stopped by 7 Stolen Sisters Photography Police, and two of them questioned me for so long I missed most of the march. I've never been harassed so much at a single event, not even from the actual police.
It was disappointing to see so few white women and their allies at the Victoria Stolen Sisters March, especially considering the sea of white flesh at the recent Victoria Rally in Solidarity with the Women's March on Washington.

I love it when I find images in the likeness of people of color. In our culture, everything from greeting cards to dolls seems disproportionately represented by people who are Caucasian. Using the alternative seems, to me, a statement in inclusiveness. Even world community.
After all, even Jesus wasn't white.

Anyway, here's the story behind today's photos..
I've been thinking about the concept of race for the last couple of days. I wrote a paper on it yesterday (received an A+, by the way), SaylaMarz posted a picture regarding race today, and one of my classes is discussing Obama's speech. I think that one of the major reasons for the racial division in our country is colorblindness. For all not familiar with the sociological meaning of colorblindness, it is a term used to describe people that claim they do not see race and that race does not matter to them. The problem in having such beliefs, is that in not seeing race, one also fails to see racial injustices. If one goes around believing that race is no longer a relevant factor or a issue, they are unlikely to recognize white privilege, unjust treatment, and the institutionalization of racism in our society. I think the first step for us, as a society, is to open our eyes. One must constantly recognize the construction of race, be aware of the racial hierarchy that exists in our society, and actively challenge its institutionalization.
