This planter washed down the lake during ice out more than fifteen years ago. We left it on the breakwater but no one claimed it so we used it. It has seen better days.
A Canada Jay (Perisoreus canadensis) from Rocky Mountain National Park, Grand County, Colorado.
Also commonly referred to as the Gray Jay, the Canada Jay is a familiar site around campgrounds and picnic areas. The nickname "whiskey jack" is a corruption of Wisakedjak, an important figure in Cree mythology. Wisakedjak is described as a benevolent trickster. Perhaps the jay earned its name through its charming nature and sneaky picnic robbing ways.

Whiskey Jack is another name given to the Grey Jay. The name comes from the First Nations mythological figure called 'Wisakedjak". Now most of us know him as the Grey Jay. They are not shy birds and there was one who visited our campsite a few times up near Lake Superior. He was ever so quiet as he swooped in to sit on a branch and watch us. This one is being tracked and we found him in Algonquin Park last month. There were several Grey Jays looking for hand outs.
