The Whirpool captured with a QSI CCD camera on a C14 scope. 12x5 min with a binning of 2. Preprocessing with Nebulosity and IDL, custom processing (coupled deblurring-denoising followed with tonemapping) under IDL, and profile embedding and cropping using Photoshop.
On bright enough screens, a faint tidal tail of the interacting pair of galaxies can be seen starting from the smaller one and pointing to the top-left.

M51 são na verdade dois objetos. São duas galáxias em colisão. Uma simulação de computador mostra que a galáxia menor veio por baixo e entrou na órbita da galáxia maior. Este é um alvo que eu queria fotografar já desde o início do hobby mas, por ser baixo no horizonte, nenhuma foto me satisfazia. Essa foi uma que eu gostei. Apesar disso, reparei alguns artefatos nas estrelas, ocasionados por alguma questão dos espelhos. A próxima definitivamente farei a captura com filtros!
Camera Zwo Asi 294mc Pro, Sky-Watcher 200p (200/1000mm) telescope (f5), gain 125 at -10C. Guiding with Asiair and ASI290mc in an adapted finderscope 50mm, Eq5 Sky-watcher mount and AstroEq tracking mod. 31 Ligth Frames of 180s with an Optolong L-Pro filter 40 darks and 50 Bias. 1h33 minutes total exposure.
