Hey, diddle, diddle,

The cat and the fiddle,

The cow jumped over the moon;

The little dog laughed,

To see such sport,

And the dish ran away with the spoon.

Photographed taken at the Marietta Museum of Art and Whimsy in Sarasota, Florida. If you have the opportunity, it is a place you should check out. There are hundreds of cool, interesting, and comical art pieces in every nook and cranny of the museum, including the restrooms. This is where this photograph was taken, in the women's restroom!

My blog

I’ve been playing, again, in my little sketchbook. This one got pretty tight, when compared to my usual sketch technique. It was fun to create it. Enjoy.

Earlier I posted a Prisma image of the pen & ink drawing, but this is the actual physical page, Strathmore Drawing Paper with a water-colored pen & ink drawing. The image is about eight inches, edge to edge. A lot of fun to draw and color this one.

This textured mixed-media painting captures the vibrant beauty of roses in full bloom. Layers of acrylic and oil paints, combined with various materials like fabric, beads, and paper, create depth and intrigue. The palette ranges from soft lilacs and pinks to striking oranges, set against a dreamy background of muted blue and earthy tones. The intricate details, from the tactile texture of the vase to the delicate embellishments, evoke a sense of elegance and harmony.

The painting wasn't quite finished but who could resist a shot like this!

Big thankyou to my little fairy x

I used Prisma’s Elephant filter, including their adjustments. Further tweaks were done with PhotoToaster. it was fun to see what I could do.

What I love about self-portraiture is becoming part of something bigger than yourself. I love disconnecting from who I am or who I've been and seeing myself differently, through the eyes of another, through the eyes of someone I don't know. To transform oneself; to see yourself as character who experiences life individually; to be who you want to be or to be someone else entirely. This is the magic of creating with yourself, for yourself, by yourself. This is why I create.

Ever since I moved to a small town nearly 3 years ago I have only photographed models on rare occasions, usually when I travel and every few months near my town. "Why?" people are always asking. Why not use other people? Why do you love photographing yourself? Sometimes they say it like it should be shameful, other times curious, and sometimes envious. It is a privilege to be able to work by yourself, at least in my eyes. I love being alone. I love having the time to think and not having pressure to create for anyone else or to please anyone else.

So for the time being I'll continue to take self-portraits, and hope that I will have the courage to keep going long into the future.

Beginning to develop the "Beavmobile" which is the main subject of this 16 x 12 inch acrylic. I'm using Golden's Open Acrylics and enjoying them a lot. You can see the sketch upon which this is based.

I posted it on the 9th. It's just seven photos back from this one.

I thought so much the other day about why I create and why I feel so compelled to share stories with others. I love hearing different interpretations to inspire my world view. It is exciting for me to try and put as many different meanings into a new work as possible, to find meaning in all things and to work with symbolism.

I went out to shoot by myself, in my favorite shooting spot, and felt wholly at peace while doing it. I thought of so many stories sitting in an underpass with weeds growing all around me. It was quiet and felt safe and it was dark.

To have wings. To lose wings. To use someone else to lift us up. To allow others to help. To demand help. To hurt others to help ourselves.

All of these ideas went into the making of this image, and depending on your world view or state of mind, any of them could equally apply. There was a time when I felt that I couldn’t fly any higher, that I was about to fall. I wished for wings then. There have been times when I needed someone to lift me up, and I found them. There were times when I felt my well being was more important than other living creatures and so I used them to serve me. More and more I try to be like the butterflies, lifting others and myself all the while.

What does the world look like from your point of view? How can you get others to understand that through a visual medium? What symbols are important and present in your life? What do you want the world to understand?

This page demonstrations why fine point pens are problematic for this artist. I just tighten up like crazy when a medium invites it. This scene borrows a lot from artworks I was creating around fifteen or so years back. The tank was inspired by artist Stephen Jeffrey of Great Britain. He’s been a favorite of mine for a very long time. The copse of trees pays homage to flickr artist pirlouit72. A pen & ink drawing of his just knocked me out! The image below is a link to this drawing.

Okay, I’ve got to confess a couple of things. First, when I began this drawing I had no idea of where it would end up. Second, I had to patch the middle right area TWICE! I screwed it up two times. Finally I replaced the auto with the tank. A few artifacts of the patch are at the far right. I wasn’t able to completely erase these problems.

I’ve actually added a couple more items since I made this photo. Stay tuned!

This drawing just knocks me out! Donna has an endless imagination and in this piece shows it off completely. While the scan and further adjustments show a very accurate view of this drawing, the glitter from pens fails to show up. Both colored pencil and assorted pens were used.

My photo club's theme for this next week is still life. I found this in my archives and it was taken at a very popular art festival in Richardson, Texas. Sad to say, due to the Covid, this wonderful art festival will not take place for 2021. Looking forward to when the Cottonwood Art Festival re-opens as it is one of the best around in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. The artist who created this and other delightful presentations used bottle caps and to think of how many he had to collect over the years!

A vibrant tree stands in a mystical, forested landscape, its branches adorned with many colorful butterflies and colorful leaves. Sunlight filters through the canopy, illuminating a serene stream that meanders amongst lush greenery.

The image depicts a fantastical and vibrant scene of a tree in a lush forest. The tree has a twisted trunk and is adorned with colorful leaves and lots of colorful butterflies The leaves are in shades of red, orange, and blue, and seem to blend in with the butterflies. The butterflies are scattered throughout the scene, adding a sense of movement and life. The tree is situated by a small stream, with rocks and lush green foliage surrounding it. Sunlight filters through the trees, creating a serene and magical atmosphere.

This small work is 5 x 5 inches, acrylics on canvas. It’s been in a private collection since the year it was completed. I discovered that it had never been posted to flickr, so here it is. NOTE: On the normal screen this image is almost exact size on my iPad Pro 12.9 inch screen.

I just discovered that this little painting is my 53rd Explored! Image. That’s two in just three days. I really can’t believe it.

This is my latest 6 x 8 inch sketchbook page. I just played around on this one. Markers, pens and pencils were used to create these little items.

I started just playing around on a sketchbook page, yesterday, and continued with it today. It’s as finished as it is going to get: no watercolor or colored pencil.

Well, once again my wonderful spouse has created a terrific colored pencil drawing. In a reverse of fortune, the birds are feeding worms to the people inside the house. The alien, too! I’ve got to face the facts, she is simply putting me to shame. I just absolutely love this piece.

FYI: Donna doesn’t have any formal art training. She’s been drawing for about four years now and just keeps getting better and bettter.

This will be at 10 x 12 inch piece when completed. It’s a bit further along now. The finished piece will be posted soon. The brush and paint tube were included for scale.

This is another in a long series of artworks I’ve created. They are under a general title of “Going in Circles.” Here is a pencil sketch, cropped, on 6 x 8 Strathmore Drawing Paper. I added digital color with SketchClub and a border using Snapseed.

I dedicate this painting to Guy. He has so much interest in the world, his love of music, nature, people. When I was painting this and came up with the title, I was thinking that this would make Guy smile. Thanks for all the life's music, Guy! I wish I could put the u-tube song on this, but I don't know how, so this will have to do. Acrylic 24 x 30

I started with the airplane and just kept on adding more to it. This is a pencil sketch, so far. I’ve got to decide about how to finish it. Watercolor, Colored Pencil, Pen & Ink? Let me know what you think!

This page is from a 6 x 8 inch, lightly cropped, sketchbook. Most of the line work was done in pencil and then inked with a Pentel Hybrid TECHNICA 03 black marker. I had to do a lot of editing of the lines on my iPad using the SketchClub app. All of the color was applied in that app, as well.

The image is a whimsical and artistic illustration featuring a small, cute owl with large, expressive eyes. The owl is perched on the rim of a teacup. The teacup is decorated with a floral pattern, featuring pink and blue flowers. Surrounding the teacup are more flowers and foliage, creating a lush and colorful background. A small butterfly is also visible in the upper left corner of the image, adding to the enchanting and dreamy atmosphere. The overall color palette is soft and pastel, with shades of blue, pink, and cream.

Finished the drawings and am contemplating how to procedure with color, pencil or ink. I had a lot of fun creating this page.

Playing with a theme that I used years ago in a small series of watercolors. This is a cropped image from an 8 x 6 inch page.
