i am off on another motorcycle ride...yaaaaaaaaaaa...gone again...and when i get back tonight i take my daughter and her friend to a jonas brothers concert... what was i thinking!

The new me... after watching Almost Famous, I thought I'd try to do a Penny Lane impression... turned out more like Yoko Ono. At least there is a scarf involved!

45 video cameras. 90 interviews. 15 hours to turn it into something watchable.

This is why I'm fat and tired.

52weeks2020 "WHAT WAS I THINKING"...making strange shapes - what do you see?

great day in NEW YORK CITY!!!

Strange day today..... It's a holiday and I want to take some time off to relax but I can't put the camera down. I'm drawn to it like a moth to a flame. I'm addicted to the lens and what it does. When I do stop for a while I get cranky and snappy.

There's only one way to solve this. I need to pick up my camera and decide on a place to go. Let's see...where should I go ? I see a lot of possibilities. Catch you later when I get back.

Me Again Monday - Oops I did it again.

Our Daily Challenge - Addicted

Macro Monday - Seeing Double

Just hang a dark cloth or sheet, they told me, for your "studio" - it seemed so simple.....but there were so many unforeseen complications......

Where to hang it? (not that I have too much clutter in my house....)

Is this too thin?

I figured thread count didn't matter - maybe I should reconsider that.....

The cats keep trying to play with it....

Where did I put those nails?

thumbtacks?

The cats pulled it down again....

I'll just hold it up....

Oh wait....that didn't work either.....

Now I can't stop laughing - that's not attractive....

sigh.....

Finally managed to get out to see this…

Anish Kapoor's 'C-Curve' has been installed on the South Downs, just outside Brighton. The installation is part of this year's Brighton Festival. Anish Kapoor is guest artistic director of Brighton Festival for 2009.

Set the alarm early to get out there for sunrise… Taken at 5.15am (ouch).

If you want to see some seriously creative interpretations of this sculpture, take a look at 'Rob Orchard and The Big Bamboolys light painting' and also 'The Big Bamboolys moonlight shot.'

Long Pine Key, Everglades National Park, FL

I haven't been to Long Pine Key in 6 weeks and I was really surprised how much water was in the lake... and how many mosquitoes were just waiting for me. My arms look like I have the measles. Anyway, where was I? Right, water, there was way too much of it. The path around the lake was completely under water. At one time I was standing in the water to get a shot without all the grass in the picture, like here. I'll post a few "grassy ones" later, once I stop itching. I could scratch my skin right off... arrgh.

Looks better large on black.

Interlaken, Switzerland

Thea my dear..I left this for you because for some strange reason you like it. I saved it for you...lol. maybe I will just send it to you..or give you photoshop and you can do it yourself..:P

my major activity in the studio these days

is putting away everything that came out of storage

(and i am,

finally,

making progress)

the picture of me is from just after my father died

(yes it was the 80's)

i have no idea where the one in the upper right came from

who would have thought back in 2011 when i started my first 365 project that i would end up taking a picture a day everyday for 8 years nonstop . . . . .

will there be a year 9 ???

I was tired of passing over this one in my "Ready To Up-Load" folder!

So... Here it is!

Louise Creek, near Lake Louise, Banff National Park

Full size.

So, I had a few days on my own in Banff. For the first day, I decided that I should check out Lake Louise. Now, the bus that I took from the Town of Banff only went to the Village of Lake Louise, not the lake itself. I knew that I could probably take a "taxi" up to the lake, but I thought a hike up would be more interesting. Well, interesting, it was. And also a bit more than a I had bargained for.

I should note that I was carrying backpack full of all my photo equipment (Nikon D200, several lenses, filters, portable hard drive, etc.), a bag lunch, a tripod, a couple guide books, and other small items of no use (e.g., a compass that always points at me).

So, I had about three false starts before I found the trailhead I was looking for (did I mention I was alone?). Once I was on my (correct) way, I noticed that there was a significant amount of snow falling. I thought "excellent, I'm going to get some great photos." What I should have been thinking was "crap, this will make hiking rather difficult." Always the optimist, I continued merrily along. About an hour in, I realized that this might actually be a bit of work. What looked like a medium length hike on the map turned out to be pretty much one long ascent (does anybody bother looking at those lines on a topographic map?). And the three or four inches of snow now on the ground was not making things easy.

About half-way through my enlightening journey, I came upon Louise Creek (pictured above), which I was to follow the rest of the way to Lake Louise. I felt that coming upon this creek made the hike worth it. To the couple of cross country skiers that passed me (going downhill, of course), I must have looked like a fool fiddling with my tripod and filters, but I was too tired and exhilarated to care (I must have had "I'm from Toronto" written all over me).

Anyway, I eventually made it to Lake Louise...where hordes of tourists stepped off their tour buses, a few feet from the lake. Bitter? Just a little... I decided to treat myself to dinner at the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise, and take a taxi back to the village.

Many, many more photos to come.

Several years ago, I caught a pretty good shot of some light trails as a big tractor trailer crossed over the top of Loveland Pass. I had planned on going up that night to shoot some meteors and having struck out, I resorted to some alternatives. So looking back on this initial image as being the result of an afterthought, I couldn't help but wonder what would happen if I really applied myself to getting a cool shot of some light trails.

So one night in February (2013), I headed up for a spot I had in-mind - once again, on Loveland Pass. This time, I had a spot picked where I would shoot from the relative safety of the shoulder of the road on the downhill side of a curve. The uphill side had very little room between the driving lane and the 20'+ wall of snow. Of course, capturing these light trails is anything but an easy task with a semi driving by about once every hour or two. But this is when a funny thing happened…

There is a lot more to this post... see the rest and get free wallpaper from www.coloradocaptures.com/milky-way-light-trails-loveland-...

nearly broke my neck three time taking this shot

what was i thinking :)

Several years ago, I woke up in the middle of the night, having dreamed about a headboard. I drew this headboard on a scrap of paper, and went back to sleep. When I woke up, I was half surprised to see it there. I'd almost forgotten that I drew it. Last year, I sketched it out on Paint in Windows, and then broke my arm. I finally decided to tackle the project, and it's a huge pain in the...

It's funny what you find when you dig around in the corners of the overcrowded shedio. This morning I found this slate whilst looking for something else entirely and I'm pretty sure hasn't seen the light of day since it was created six or seven years ago.

I've got literally no idea what I was thinking when I came up with this bad bitch but I obviously thought better than posting it. Now, with a bit of time between creation and reflection, I can still only wonder what my intentions were. Perhaps she was meant to be the result of some warped government experiments. Sadly, it looks like we'll never know now. Just make up your own reason for the picture and we'll leave it at that...

Cheers

Received word today that I will be teaching two workshops in September, and 5 or more next spring/summer. Super excited, and nervous about how I'm going to get everything together in 4 weeks time - during semester start-up... While also prepping for my first vendor event the end of September... It's going to be a whirl-wind of a fall - business start-up during recruitment season... #whatwasIthinking #norestforthewicked #dowhatyoulove #liveyourbestlife

man vs hanbanero chilli pepper and pepper wins

man this to be one of the worst ideas i've ever had

to give you some idea of how bad it was a jalepeno chilli pepper is 3500-4000 on the Scoville heat scale

but the Hanbanero chilli pepper is 200,000-350,000 on the Scoville heat scale

and man it hurt like a mother #*&$#"!

it burned for about 30 mins and took me about 15 mins before i could even speak

please do not try this at home

just press "L" on your keyboards to share in my pain :(

I needed some "Super" human strength today...digging around...found this green "super girl" t-shirt and there you go...Super green, super dorky, just all around super...

This photo has been in Explore almost continuously since it was uploaded near Valentines' Day. The highest ranking I know about was #4 on 7.25.07

. . . . . . . . . .

I can NOT believe I'm posting this... not to mention all the rejects which will be in the 52 Weeks set as soon as I finish typing this. If anyone asks, I'm going to plead insanity induced by Valentine's Day. Take my word for it... this is the last time you'll be seeing me offer myself up as soft core porn!

For the most part... I've been pretty darned lucky in love. Came of age in the 70s and had my share of romantic adventures. Had a lovely 15 year relationship with the man who's still my housemate.... now going on 22 years of living together. How great is THAT? I even have SOME fond memories of the man known to my friends as "Wes- the bastard".

Now though, after 6 years by myself, and after 3 years of being in love with him when he didn't think he could be in love with me, I'm finally in a relationship with the person I've always been meant to be with. Sounds sappy, I know... like something out of a dime store novel... but as soon as I met him I knew. He's smart and funny, thoughtful and talented (he's a killer musician and lyricist). irreverent and spiritual, and he can put up with all my weirdnesses. No mean feat! And handsome... did I forget to mention handsome?

So this week, with our first Valentine's Day together, I'm celebrating the fact that, after years of settling for the practical, utilitarian stuff, I finally have a good reason to buy the FUN lingere again.

I'm sorry I couldn't help myself here

The Bizarro Code which states "Us do opposite of all Earthly things! Us hate beauty! Us love ugliness! is in full effect here. I love taking pictures of Evie in the flowers but I never would have imagined that I would be taking a picture of myself laying in the flowers. What was i thinking.

Actually i was a bit rushed for time today and liked the angle of the flowers on the hill and the tree in the background and that i have virtually the same posture as the foreground flowers.

from Last Minute Knitted Gifts by Joelle Hoverson.

My first wedding shoot occurred a few weeks back. I was pretty nervous yet excited to try something new. This photo kind of happened spontaneously when we were on location to the train bridge.

I set up my SB600 on a stand halfway down the culvert and triggered it with my pop-up on my D80. The speed-light was set at about 1/2ish and the pop up at about 1/8-1/16th. Got some interesting effects.

I like the look that it ended up as, the metal makes it look all cold and clean, but at the same time fresh and sort of exciting. Let me know what you think....

Some of my family call this "the look". I assume they mean my disapproving stare. haha

Oh sweet Gurdy~

Thank you for being my model~~most days you happily go along with my quirky ideas... I'm sorry I don't have a whole herd of little ones like you that can rotate this task. (hehe...not really)

You were right~it was too cold to be standing in a field....bribes or not.

I was bummed out~but, I'm glad you held your ground. If it wasn't fun for you~you should stand up and say it. I'm proud of you.

Sometimes it is ok to go with the flow, but not everyday. I hope you never forget who you are for the sake of making everyone else happy. Because you have dreams and wishes and hopes and ........if you aren't careful with them.....no one else will be. :)

I love you sweet girl!!!!

Gentlemen, we can rebuild him. We have the technology. We have the capability to build the world's first bionic fisheye man. Scott will be that man. Better than he was before. Better, stronger, faster, fishier.

The Six Million Dollar Man - who am i kidding :~)

... on a Friday afternoon. I spent an hour shooting with my buddy Hugh before work this week. The weather was perfect and the river valley view from the outdoor terrace at the Courtyard Marriott was the place to be. Oh yes I shot the river valley but you can see that anytime. What was incredible and very unique was this delightful bronze and copper fence by local sculptor and artist

Roy Leadbeater.

Week 5.52

View in large and look at my right eyebrow. You'll see how weird it is ! It's ridiculous, I cut my skin with paper at work (hurt so bad). I look like I want to be a bad girl or maybe that I failed reaaaally bad at plucking. This was my today's story, feel free making of me !

The reasons why all you can find lately in my photostram is autoportraits :

1. All I do is go to work, I don't even walk 5 minutes in streets.

2. It's been almost two months that I'm staying at my parents' house, I really need to see something new ! After trying to photograph everything once, there is not much to do ..

3. I don't really dear to take pictures of random people or even at random things in streets in front of people.

4. The only moment I can take photos and take my time, is when my parents aren't at home. Oh yeah did I forget to tell you ? Both my parents work at home. Woohoo !

Fresh from the oven.....Pecan Pie! My favorite part of Thanksgiving, the desserts!

Have a great Thanksgiving everyone!

another photo taken for KMA week. I had such a hard decision....

What was I thinking! I knew this would be difficult but oh my word, and I'm sure there is a simple way to do this in PS but I don't know how. I'm going to have to research how this should be done. It took ages and I know it's not perfect, but hey it passed the time :)

It's not a straight photo of a bent clock, it's a photo of a straight clock, bent!

Funny how the mind wanders sometimes.

I'm all out of faith, this is how I feel

I'm cold and I'm ashamed bound and broken on the floor

Illusion never changed into something real

I'm wide awake and I can see the perfect sky is torn

You're a little late, I'm already torn

Several years ago, I woke up in the middle of the night with this idea of a headboard. I grabbed a pencil, and scratched out a drawing on a scrap of paper. When I woke up the next morning, I'd almost forgotten I did it. I eventually made this image on Paint, and I've finally started making it in 1:6th scale. Tonight I decided that dream me is a sadist for thinking this was a good idea. ;)

Okay, true confessions here. My plan was to shoot something really cute with those little Peep bunny candies.

Something came over me and I thought I would try just one. They are really disgustingly sweet marshmallows covered in sugar if you haven't ever had one.

No surprise to anyone who knows me but I ate every one of the horrible little creatures and that's why you are getting this lily photo instead.

Meanwhile, do as I say and not what I do and don't even go there. . . (and have a wonderful Easter Sunday).

edited shot: tighter crop, darkened the background a bit, a bit more saturated...

Don't ask... I don't have a clue what I was doing. I saw that sheep skin and thought I could make something of it. It turns out I don't like any of the shots I took AND don't feel like doing another shoot... K, going back to play with my son who was wondering why his mom was cruching the flowers with her feet while I'm always telling him not to go over with his trucks....

Oh, and btw... I may look naked on this shot, but I'm not. Ummm, I have neighbors, ya know... MOUHAHAHAHAHA!

....And they must think I'm a wacko...

Losing myself in sea and sky.

ok,i freaked out when i finally saw how it came out..it reminds me of an 80's swimteam meet up hang out place at my old highschool!! i hated that place cause i can't swim.

do we still design our spaces this way, thinking ahead 100, 200 years, visualizing the relationship between the structures we build and their place within the natural world? not just big spaces, big structures, public places, artistic statements, but everything? have we lost our appreciation for the importance that every single, manufactured element around us has in our lives? how a building in a setting, a home, can bring us joy simply by being the result of a thoughtful, skillful person's intentions, generations before?

the world is not an algorithm. life is not an algorithm, thought is not an algorithm. culture is not an algorithm. art is not an algorithm. work is not an algorithm. aesthetic sensibility is not an algorithm. taste is not an algorithm. politics is not an algorithm. conversation is not an algorithm. writing is not an algorithm. eating is not an algorithm. travel is not an algorithm. music is not an algorithm. friends are not an algorithm. beauty is not an algorithm. joy is not an algorithm. what i like is not an algorithm. what i should like is not an algorithm. i am not an algorithm.

From my trip to the Botanical Gardens yesterday. My new 50mm f/1.4 got a big work out (but I also used my macro lens a lot too). Many more pictures coming soon! :)

+ 2 more pictures in comments because I couldn't decide (as usual).

And because bokeh is super cliche (especially in my stream), Happy Cliche Saturday!
