Two young giraffe Giraffa camelopardalis, Sabiepark Private Nature Reserve, Mpumalanga, South Africa. Large View On Black

Did you know that giraffe need only between 10 minutes and two hours of sleep in a 24-hour period? Their average sleeping time, according to researchers, is 1.9 hours per day! I found this astonishing, but most websites and books I consulted point to this fact. As they have to be watchful of predators they usually sleep standing up, though they do lie down on occasion. Young giraffe spend a lot of their first few days lying down through the night and a lot of the day while hiding and awaiting the return of the mother to suckle them.

Thank you to Willie for suggesting the title.

Well, you can't call it an all-nighter if you're done at 5am, I guess.

This wall project is the bane of my existence. I always have a problem with being too ambitious, and that is definitely kicking my ass in this project.

We needed to make 25 identical forms (5x5in) to create a wall. I created a twisted hexagon to make a waving motion in the wall. Sounds like a good plan and looks amazing on paper, but stability is an issue and I'm frustrated as all hell.

But.

It's done and it will have to do.

What is the point of a class if you're not learning from it, I guess.

I just hope when I take all of the tape braces off that it stands a little better.

I'm stressed and worried that this class is going to kill my chances at the dean's list this semester. I've been on it every semester I've been at Iowa, and I do not want to lose it now.

Ugh.

Big test on Wednesday, looks like tomorrow will be another fun-filled night of homework/studying. Ugh.

Final thoughts: I'm too complicated. Next semester goals: simplify. I'd rather have too many concepts and innovative ideas than none at all ;-) I'm super happy with final presentations and I wasn't even barefoot for this last one 😂 where do I think I am, Colorado? #designlife #healingarchitechure #woodburyuniversity #materials #furnishings #space #planning #shamiwellness @woodbury_university #innovative #whatissleep #nowicansleepinpeace

What is Sleep? Importance of Sleep | Amount of sleep for Teenager

by Doctor Mike Hansen

When you wake up in the morning, how do you feel?

Do you feel refreshed and ready to go?

Or do you feel sluggish and groggy, and maybe even grumpy?

And this stat right here is crazy:

According to the CDC,

Only 1/3rd of adults actually get the recommended minimum of seven or more hours of sleep every night.

( Average amount of sleep for teenagers | Amount of sleep for teenager | Amount of sleep a teenager needs )

The most common reason for this is trouble falling or staying asleep, aka insomnia.

This could be related to stress. It can also be related to too much caffeine (coffee) or alcohol, or side effects from medication. It could also be related to other habits that you don’t even realize.

But there are other medical conditions that could be the root cause of the problem, like sleep apnea and depression.

Whatever the reason, not getting good sleep takes its toll on your overall well-being and hugely impacts your productivity.

And not getting good sleep impacts your life in so many ways.

Some takeaways from this video:

1. Deep sleep, which occurs is Non REM sleep is especially important for body repair.

2. REM sleep is especially important for learning, memory formation, and optimal brain power.

3. In order to maximize deep sleep and REM sleep duration, you need at least 7-8 hours of sleep per night.

4. Your internal clock is regulated by itself, but also by external factors like a light. If you can, follow your internal clock, which means go to bed when its dark, and wake up when its daylight.

5. Average amount of sleep for teenagers | Amount of sleep for teenager | Amount of sleep a teenager needs

Now, there is way more to sleep than I covered in this video.

If you haven’t already, make sure to check out my video “The 6 Keys to a Great Night Sleep”.

This way you can maximize your chances of getting enough REM and non-REM deep sleep every night, to get you at your peak performance.
