...for a world without war and violence.

The world will never be the dwelling place of peace till peace has found a home in the heart of each and every person, till every person preserves in himself the order ordained by God to be preserved -Pope John

Remembrance Day. Armistice day

9.11.09.

I couldn't think of a picture for today, but after watching all of those documentaries on the history channel, I guess I just got this spur of the moment idea.

It's a pretty quick makeshift thing, but I kind of like how the picture itself turned out.

I never understood, and I probably never will, how anyone could ever do this, let alone think of something like this.

I always feel so helpless whenever I think about it, how I couldn't do anything [I mean I was only 7..., but still now I just feel sad every time this day rolls around] and even now, 8 years later, most people my age don't really feel connected to this day, but for some reason I find myself very much so.

it's been 10 years since our country and innocent families were attacked on 9/11, but we will never forget this day. Thank you to those who risked their lives on 9/11 and my prayers go out to the families who lost a loved one. God Bless the USA ♥

Tribute in Light – September 11, 2020

Tribute in Light is a commemorative public art installation first presented six months after 9/11 and then every year thereafter, from dusk to dawn, on the night of September 11. It has become an iconic symbol that both honors those killed and celebrates the unbreakable spirit of New York.

Assembled on the roof of the Battery Parking Garage south of the 9/11 Memorial, the twin beams reach up to four miles into the sky and are comprised of eighty-eight 7,000-watt xenon lightbulbs positioned into two 48-foot squares, echoing the shape and orientation of the Twin Towers. The installation can also be viewed from a 60-mile radius around lower Manhattan.

The presentation of Tribute in Light has been made possible by the generous support of the Carnegie Corporation of New York, Lower Manhattan Development Corporation, and Rechler Philanthropy.

The 9/11 Memorial & Museum also acknowledges its Board Chairman Mike Bloomberg for his leadership and Governor Andrew Cuomo for providing health personnel and supervision to help ensure the Tribute in Light will be safely produced.

Tribute in Light was conceived by several artists and designers who were then brought together under the auspices of the Municipal Art Society and Creative Time: John Bennett, Gustavo Boneverdi, Richard Nash Gould, Julian LaVerdiere, and Paul Myoda, with lighting consultant Paul Marantz.

Tribute in Light is produced by Michael Ahern Production Services.

Today I am posting an old photo of the Ground Zero cross that I took while visiting NYC in 2004. This cross is a group of steel beams found amidst the debris of the World Trade Center following the September 11, 2001 attacks. Many people with access to the location used the cross to post messages on and pray around. It was eerie to see this giant hole in the ground with this cross surrounded by tall buildings. The cross was relocated in 2006 and will return to the WTC Museum when it is completed in 2011.

.....Teaching a class full of innocent children

Driving down some cold interstate

Did you feel guilty cause you're a survivor

In a crowded room did you feel alone

Did you call up your mother and tell her you love her

Did you dust off that bible at home

Did you open your eyes and hope it never happened

Close your eyes and not go to sleep

Did you notice the sunset the first time in ages

Speak with some stranger on the street

Did you lay down at night and think of tomorrow

Go out and buy you a gun

Did you turn off that violent old movie you're watching

And turn on "I Love Lucy" reruns

Did you go to a church and hold hands with some stranger

Stand in line and give your own blood

Did you just stay home and cling tight to your family

Thank God you had somebody to love

This plane didn't hit this building...but it's hard not to think or remember what happened 10 years ago on September 11th when you look at this image. I was not sure if I should post this pic, but with the 911 Anniversary approaching, I thought it would be a good opportunity for people to share their stories & thoughts of how you felt on the day that we will never forget.

My deepest condolences for anyone that lost someone during the events of 9/11. I hope you have found peace and can reflect / cherish the days leading up to and after the anniversary.

Tribute in Light

Beginning at dusk on September 11, 2014, the powerful and majestic blue twin beams lit up near the World Trade Center site to honor the Twin Towers as well as those who lost their lives at the hands of Islam, thirteen years ago. The Municipal Art Society of New York first presented "Tribute in Light" on March 11, 2002, just six months after the Islamic Terrorist attacks. The illuminated memorial reaches 4 miles into the sky and is the strongest shaft of light ever projected from earth in the night sky. The beams remain lit through dawn on September 12, 2014.

"We Will Never Forget"

After seeing the signs at Liberty State Park I was touched by the monument. follow the planted rows .. they would have lead you to the World Trade Center. Then I did some research on what the momument was supposed to be. People are making a big stink about the original monument plans. click the link and you can make your own judgement
