The West Pier is a pier in Brighton, England. It was designed by Eugenius Birch, opening in 1866 and closing in 1975. The pier was the first to be Grade I listed in Britain but has become increasingly derelict since closure.

I've seen photographers shoot below the West Pier in Whitby before, shooting towards the costline, but upon turning around I thought that this view was also worth of a shot. Looks a bit like a boxing ring, don't you think!?
West Pier, Brighton
On its last legs, literally. Another section collapsed this year, so I thought I'd better get the shot while I could!
Wishing you all an excellent Sunday.

The fire damaged remains of Brighton's West Pier, seen through the remains of the pillars on the beach
We get a lot of sea mist here, and although this photomanipulation is called, 'Sea Mist Sunrise' I actually took the photo at about 11am. As you can see, I've overlaid it with a photo of one of Brighton's ubiquitous seagulls! You can see the original photo I took of the derelict West Pier in the first comment box below.
A very Happy Christmas and a Happy Holiday to you all!
I hope you all enjoy it, however you celebrate it! :-)
The lights on the Palace Pier were just starting to come on as the light faded. Unfortunately they weren't all working and only some of the letters were being lit up as I was trying to capture the reflection in the puddle on the sand left by the low tide. The West Pier and the i360 can also be seen behind the Palace Pier.

What a joy this weekend has been - sunshine and frost have felt wonderful!
I went back to Brighton determined to see the starlings after my embarrassing mistake last week (!!) It was fantastic to see a murmuration finally, but I have to say I was a bit distracted by the sensational sunset we were treated to behind the West Pier 😍
Brighton West Pier - first opened in 1866, now just a metal skeleton after years of storm damage and several fires, which completely destroyed the construction.
I was hoping for a more dramatic sunset light but instead got this pastel, steel blue haze in the air that my lens was not quite able to cut through. Must return later this year to re-take this shot
The clouds this day were very unusual and looked like they were boiling. I used a slow shutter speed to get the movement in the clouds so the Starling murmuration looks like it is raining down on the side of the pier. The tide was quite low so some of the remains in the water can be seen in the front of the West Pier. I know there have been lots of pictures of the West Pier and the Starlings murmuring but the sky on this day was quite different I thought.

And now for something completely different! Slight interlude in the Scottish photos for something taken at the weekend.
The forecast was nothing special but the tides seemed right for shooting something at Shoreham mid morning. I decided I'd get up early and head over to Brighton to shoot the West Pier again.....who knows how much longer it will survive? This time I wanted to capture some posts (old pier supports?) that I'd seen.
Sure enough the sky was pretty grey and nothing much going on with the sea so I thought I'd try a 'Gary Gough Fine Art' type image. I'll leave it to you all to decide if I succeeded!
Had some challenges sorting out the lens distortion effect as I had to get quite close to the posts to make sure I excluded any beach. Another Tog there said he would clone out the beach if necessary but I wanted to avoid that. It's not 100% perfect but I think the distortion is removed as far as my capabilities/the software allow.
If you want to learn about the history of West Pier then pleasse see a shot I took last year of a Supermoon over the pierhttps://www.flickr.com/photos/184798091@N07/51409111073/in/album-72157719746898331/
