This is looking west from Station Pier in Melbourne, taken from the deck of the Sprit of Tasmania ferry to Tasmania. The old pylons of Princes Pier are in the foreground and the Westgate Bridge in the background. Mix of interesting street lamps and power lines through the scene.
Happy Telegraph Tuesday!
Called in here on the way back from today's explore. Lovely falls. 4 shots bracketed and merged in PS6.
Shot on a late winter evening when twilight was just giving way to night, Winchester's Westgate is one of two surviving fortified gateways from the city's wall. It was build mainly in the 13th and 14th Centuries.
The earliest surviving fabric is of Anglo-Saxon character. The gate was rebuilt in the 12th century and modified in the 13th and late 14th centuries, the latter including a portcullis in the western façade and two inverted-keyhole gunports (for use with hand-held cannon), the earliest in the country. The gate was in use until 1959 when the High Street was routed around it - and it is on High Street that the light trails of the traffic are visible here.

We went for lunch at a private winery over the western side of the city recently. This is the view from the M1 Freeway as we drove back over the Westgate Bridge and bypassing the city, went on to the tunnel leading to the south-eastern suburbs. Fortunately, I was not driving so could take the shot. I've always liked this off centre archway. HFF
