Looking east into Utah along UT-21. This is an 83-mile stretch of no services between Milford, Utah, and Baker, Nevada, along the ACA Western Express. It's not apparent in the pic, but we battled 20-25 mph flanking winds and headwinds. There isn't much vegetation to move with the gusts, so you can't tell how strong the wind really is until you start moving.
These types of roads are mentally taxing, when you can see it go on for 30 or more miles. Basin, range, repeat.

The final Western Airlines route map before its merger with Delta Air Lines from March 1987. The carrier merged with Delta on 1 April, providing the Atlanta-based carrier with its Salt Lake City hub and the beginnings of its Los Angeles hub, both of which continue to exist today.
Western focused on building its hub-and-spoke system over Salt Lake City and to a lesser extent Los Angeles during the five years since this August 1982 map.
Western operated 96 aircraft, including 39 727-200s, 35 737-200s, 13 737-300s and nine DC-10s, on 1 March 1987, the Ascend Fleets database shows.
