The Typical Morning at Tajpur, Digha

More at westbengaltourism

Located just 51 kms from Kolkata on the banks of River Hooghly, Falta is a popular weekend destination repleted with history. The British took refuge here after Nawab Siraj Ud Daulah captured Kolkata and the Dutch had a factory here long before Indian Independence. But much before the British or the Dutch, nearly 1000 years ago Tamluk near Falta was a flourishing Buddhist centre. Falta is a true river town, few kilometers to the south of Falta, River Damodar meets River Hooghly (River Ganges is called by this name here) and few kilometers to the north River Rupnarayan meets River Hooghly. Apart from its riverside beauty, Falta is also known for the beautiful farmhouse of the famous Bengali scientist Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose. Falta also plays host to business guests and it falls under SEZ (Special Economic Zone).

Morning scene on the last day of our weekend trip. I had gone for a walk with my wife. Saw these interesting footsteps probably of dog and a lone boat. Never got this opportunity in my earlier trip to Odisha coast (same Bay of Bengal). Instantly, thought of a composition with a very high dof (f18). Cropped a little to maintain the rule of thirds. Thanks for viewing/commenting. Feel free to criticize.

Tajpur in the East Medinipur district in West Bengal is set between Mandarmoni and Shankarpur. The specialty of Tajpur is that, despite the influx of tourists and revelers, this beach still retains its virgin, remote-village touch and thus a favorite weekend destinations for people living in concrete jungle, just 3 hrs away.

Mandarmani is a fishing village in the state of West Bengal, India, lies in East Midnapore district and at the northern end of the Bay of Bengal. It is one of the large and fast developing seaside resort village of West Bengal. It is almost 180 km from Kolkata Airport on the Kolkata - Digha route. It is argued to be the longest driveable beach in India - red crabs crawling around the 13 km long beach is a special attraction of Mandarmani.

Tajpur is the latest addition in tourist map of Bengal. The prime attraction of Tajpur is its pristine sea beach fringed with a dense forest of tamarisk trees. The beach is infested with infinite number of red crabs which play hide and seek in the sand. Their presense makes the beach look crimson. There are fishermen's villages in the vicinity, where one can observe the mundane life of fisherman. Just 1 km away is a lagoon with a pleasant surrounding. Tajpur is 170 km from Kolkata. It takes three hours to reach Tajpur by car. Winter is good time to visit Tajpur.

Tajpur offers various adventure sports options like para-gliding, rafting, rock-climbing and other activities.

Massanjore dam, across the Mayurakshi River, is in Dumka district of Jharkhand State (India). It was built to boost irrigation, generate electricity and prevent floods. Built with Canadian aid, and commissioned in 1956, it is also called Canada Dam. It is 47 m (155 ft) high from its base and is 660 m (2,170 ft) long. The reservoir has an area of 67.4 sq km when full and has a storage capacity of 620 million cubic metres.

Only 270 km from Kolkata, Massanjore, a gem on Bengal's tourist map, is perfect for enjoying a weekend tour. It is on the Suri-Dumka road - 31 km from Dumka (in Jharkhand) and 38 km upstream from Suri (in West Bengal). A rocky terrain, a colossal dam, an expansive sky and an immense water body with startling blue water just about sum up its charms.

Trisul is a group of three Himalayan mountain peaks of western Kumaun, with the highest reaching 7120m. The three peaks resemble a trident - in Hindi/Sanskrit, Trishula, trident, is the weapon of Shiva.

______

Uttarakhand is not just about mountains and birds. It has some great collection of heritage sites like ASI protected Temples or, Monasteries dating back to centuries, strategically located next to rivers like Gomti, Saryu, Goriganga, Ramganga and Kosi (there are many biggies like Alaknanda, Mandakini, Nandakini etc but I am just mentioning the rivers, I saw enroute, while visiting the Kasauni-Gwaldham-Munsiary-Jageshwar circuit)

This place called Baijnath is well known for its cluster of temples, located at an height of about say 1130 mts, on the banks of the Gomti River.

If you start from Kausani located in the Bageshwar district of Uttarakhand, the Baijnath will be on your right , just walking distance from the State Highway No 11 connecting Kausani with Gwaldham.

The Panchachuli (पंचाचुली) peaks are a group of five snow-capped Himalayan peaks lying at the end of the eastern Kumaon region, near Dugtu Village Darma valley, you can see panchchuli peak like you are lap of the panchchuli, and Munsiari, in Pithoragarh district, Uttarakhand state, India. The peaks have altitudes ranging from 6,334 metres (20,781 ft) to 6,904 metres (22,651 ft). They form the watershed between the Gori and the Darmaganga valleys. Panchchuli is also located on the Gori Ganga-Lassar Yankti divide. The group lies 138 km (86 mi) from Pithoragarh. The first ascent of this range (Panchchuli 1) was done by Indo-Tibet Border Police (ITBP) team in 1972, via Uttari Balati glacier, led by Hukam Singh.

The five peaks on the Panchchuli massif are numbered from northwest to southeast. The highest peak is Panchchuli II, which was first scaled by an Indo-Tibetan Border Police expedition, led by Mahendra Singh, on 26 May 1973. One theory of the group's name is derived from the legendary Pandavas's "Five Chulis" (cooking hearths) another theory is that this region was once part of the old Nepal Kingdom and in the Nepalese language Chuli refers to peaks, hence the 5 peaks.

The fishermen of Bakkhali practices traditional brackish water fishing techniques on full moon night. When moon rises and the tide starts moving in, thousands of small juvenile mullet fishes (probably, Mugil cephalus) land with the tidal waves. The model lunar components of the species landings showed a monthly oscillation synchronous to the full moon. Fishermen use their traditional nets in knee-deep water for catching the mullets and this phenomenon continues for around 30 min.

Bakkhali is located on one of the many deltaic islands spread across southern Bengal. There is a 8 km long beach stretching from Bakkhali to Frasergunj with gently rolling waves. Except on an occasional holiday the beach is not crowded. A small stretch near Bakkhali has been lighted up. It is a hard beach suitable for cycling or even driving. More: Bakkhali

A small village called Birthi - If you are travelling from Chaukori to Munsiyari or Bageshwar to Munsiyari, Birthi on the Munsiyari - Thal Road is a PIT stop for every traveller. With a population of Just 84, this small village is located in Munsiari Tehsil of Pithoragarh district in Uttarakhand. It is situated 35km away from sub-district headquarter Munsiyari and 88km away from district headquarter Pithoragarh.

Dont forget to have a meal at either KMVN Birthi or at Danu Maggie Point which is immensely popular among all local drivers/tourists.

We had great time interacting with the family who run Danu Maggie Point.

Every picture tells a story.

This one was shot in Almora while travelling from Bageshwar to catch the Train at Kathgodam.

This route is scenic having good amount of forest cover on both sides of the Highway.
