Does anyone know the proper name for this plant? I've always known it as cockroach weed. From my garden
Purple scorpion weed, is also called 'Bee Field' (Bienenweide) in Germany because they feed honey bees who are normally placed in the near of such fields or right within the field.
The plants are part of the crop rotation and have no other use than for the soil and for the bees.

Old Lyme, CT by a boat ramp
Nikkor-N 35mm f1.4 at f2 - the background is actually a field of reeds that is totally blurred from the shallow DOF.
Interesting looking. Curly, actually pretty in its way. Not prickly (yet, anyway) but "hirsute". Volunteered in a container in my backyard in Berkeley, CA.
Tom and Jim hot and sweaty and in need of a rest after attempting to control rampant weed growth after the summer rains.
I have been so slow to weed the flower bed in front of the house that one of the neighbors decided to help me out. She (mostly) ate bindweed and volunteer trees but she did help herself to a few lily buds as well.
On my morning walk today I decided to look for WEEDS to photograph, inspired by Sonora Guy's recent weed shot. Now I have a whole batch of weed images to play with:)

Playing with the macro settings .... nothing new here but they are beautiful ... I've forgotten what they're called!
I went out and fed the mosquitoes last night. The garden has plenty of subjects and I've been eager to play with my new flash triggers. Unfortunately I am too tired to do much more than one post today. A bad night with one of the cats left us with too little sleep, but I can't wait to show these off.
This is straight out of the camera.
One flash 1/16th power, behind the subject, homemade diffuser from a drawer liner, fired by Flashpoint radio triggers. Taken just after sunset.
A few Butterfly Weed plants came up in the potted plant that we brought in for the winter. The flowers bloomed all winter long indoors, and are now very happy to be back outside where they belong.
This is a weed. I think it's a pretty weed.
This batch of photos taken with a 40D that belongs to a friend. Just testing to make sure there are no malfunctions after coming back from the Canon hospital for sick cameras.
Week 17 -Hands - Frances was doing the weeding - can't actually see her hands - but you know that's what the whole image is about.
The weed chillum is a pipe that can be carried around made up of a mouthpiece and a tunnel and bowl. They are among the most basic smoking devices used by men. Weed chillums from India tend to be cylindrical in form and are typically made from glass, clay or ceramics. You might have seen cigarette-like devices known as one-hitters, which come with flower chambers, also known as "dugouts." Chillums are the version of the mama. Larger versions of these are known as steamrollers. Technically speaking glass blunts are chillums as well, but we won't go into that now. Chillums nowadays are typically only one-piece pipes. However, historically, they've come with an element called a chillum stopper, also known as a chillum stone. Chillum stones that are weedy go within the chillums, just slightly underneath the bowl to stop the hashish or flower from falling directly down your throat. Mesh screens are also employed for this purpose however there are so many incredible chillums available which do not require any type of stopper. The benefits of technology. Chillums have been around for ages and are a fantastic method to smoke flowers. They also conserve your stash of marijuana and build a stronger relationship with cannabis.
