Sargasso Weed,Sargassum natans gathers in large mats in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. Storms breaks up these mats and they then drift via currents all over the Atlantic. Little gas floats allow this brown algae (Phaeophyta) to ride atop the waves in the open ocean.

Weed w/ Naomi Punk & Mass Marriage @ Antisocial. Unfortunately, I missed Naomi Punk & Mass Marriage. This was Hugo's last Vancouver show with the band. I remember the first show he played with Weed and it was in Seattle @ Cairo. I went down to that show asking Hugo if he wanted to ride down - that's when he texted me back saying he was now in the band. lol.

Weed was pioneered by Abner Weed, who came to the area in 1897 looking for a way to invest his modest savings in the lumber business. He had the opportunity to purchase the Siskiyou Lumber and Mercantile Mill for the reasonable sum of $400. By the 1940s Weed could boast that he had created the largest saw mill in the world. This good fortune continued to prosper this little town, but has the years progressed many of the wood and paper companies had scaled back production or closed their doors completely. Luckily Weed is easily accessed by the Interstate 5 corridor, so tourist began to find this quaint town a pleasant place to visit. Mount Shasta is the second largest Volcano in the Cascade Range of mountains and walking through its fascinating formation of lava beds is real adventure. Naturally, there are those curious few who come to Weed looking for a secret Marijuana Mecca, mistaking the street slang of Weed, to mean exactly that; a town devoted to head shops and Medical Marijuana dispensaries. Luckily that is not the case in Weed, it is simply a delightful small town with classic American values.

Weed Hall is home to most departments of the School of Health and Environment (SHE). The building contains laboratories and lecture halls for students in the departments of Nursing, Clinical Laboratory Sciences, Exercise Physiology and Physical Therapy, and Community Health and Sustainability. SHE’s Department of Work Environment is located in Kitson Hall.
One of Weed’s many computer labs is an interactive video lab where students can practice their dissection skills in a virtual environment. It is one of only three such labs in the Northeast.
The building is named for Dr. Clarence M. Weed, who, as the institution’s president from 1923 to 1935, oversaw the transition of Lowell Normal School to the four-year, bachelor’s-degree-granting State Teachers’ College at Lowell in 1932.
Fun fact: The colorful mosaic in the lobby of Weed Hall is an example of President Daniel H. O’Leary’s commitment to making campus buildings attractive when he oversaw dramatic expansion of the UML south campus in the 1970s.
