weeded verb (to be in the weeds) 1 when someone or something, usually in the food or beverage industry, becomes overwhelmed and falls behind. 2 to have too much to do. 3 to not be able to keep up or accomplish all the tasks set before you. 4 a feeling or act of being behind in one's work.

 

Not so long ago I worked at a restaurant in America, where I picked up this term. It is, apparently, a widely used restaurant term, but I never heard it used anywhere outside of our restaurant and no one seemed to know where it comes from. It's also pretty fun to use in everyday life:

 

"I can't believe Christmas is so soon! I'm totally weeded by this factor."
