One of my favorite image processors in the photog community is Ryan Dyar. In some of his photos there are these Dr. Suess's looking flowers. I knew I would some day find myself high enough up in the Northern Hemisphere to see one.
They primarily grow at higher elevations and can be found in the springtime scattered around the pacific northwest and Canada.
I'm not sure if it's a flower or a weed but I really like the way it twists into something that resembles a bottle brush found under the sink in Whoville. I still haven't been able figure out the name of this thing is....but some have said it's called fire weed. I'm not sure if thats true.
I took this one in British Columbia with my brotog William(Bill) McIntosh otherwise fondly known as "Tenacious B"

La nébuleuse planétaire de l'Araignée Rouge NGC 6537 (Weeb-NIRCam) située à 6 000 années-lumière de la Terre dans la constellation du Sagittaire (Sagittarius) se révèle ici toute en dentelles avec son étoile centrale qui serait double. Elle est produite par une étoile naine mourante en train de se dépouiller de sa matière et est connue sous le nom de nébuleuse de l'Araignée Rouge, clin d'oeil à ses forme et couleur caractéristiques lorsqu'on l'observe dans le visible*. Dans les longueurs d'ondes infrarouges du télescope spatial James Webb (JWST), c'est cependant un tout autre insecte qu'elle évoque ! Un papillon ? Elle fait en tout cas partie, comme la nébuleuse du Papillon NGC 6302 dans la constellation du Scorpion (Scorpius), de ces quelques nébuleuses planétaires bipolaires qui associent un fort rayonnement stellaire en leur centre à une grosse quantité de gaz moléculaire à leur périphérie.
Une nébuleuse planétaire comme celle-ci se forme lorsque des étoiles ordinaires, telles que le Soleil, arrivent en fin de vie. Après s'être transformées en géantes rouges froides, elles éjectent leurs couches externes dans l'espace, exposant ainsi leur noyau incandescent. Le rayonnement ultraviolet de l'étoile centrale ionise la matière éjectée, la faisant briller. La phase de nébuleuse planétaire dans la vie d'une étoile est aussi éphémère que magnifique, ne durant que quelques dizaines de milliers d'années.
Sur cette image, la caméra proche infrarouge de Weeb révèle des détails inédits de cette nébuleuse planétaire, comme l'étendue de ses lobes déployés, qui forment les pattes de l'araignée. Représentés en bleu, ceux-ci sont dessinés par la lumière émise par les molécules de H₂, composées de deux atomes d'hydrogène liés entre eux. S'étendant sur la totalité du champ de vision de NIRCam, ces lobes apparaissent comme des structures fermées, semblables à des bulles, s'étendant chacune sur environ 3 années-lumière. Le gaz s'échappant du centre de la nébuleuse a gonflé ces bulles massives au cours de milliers d'années.
Des jets de gaz s'échappent activement du centre de la nébuleuse. Une forme allongée en "S" violet et centrée sur le cœur de la nébuleuse suit la lumière émise par les atomes de fer ionisés. Cette structure marque l'endroit où un jet rapide a émergé près de l'étoile centrale de la nébuleuse et est entré en collision avec de la matière précédemment éjectée par cette étoile, sculptant ainsi la structure ondulée de la nébuleuse visible aujourd'hui. Bien qu'une seule étoile soit visible en son coeur, une étoile compagne cachée pourrait également s'y trouver, ce qui pourrait aussi expliquer la forme de la nébuleuse, avec son rétrécissement caractéristique et ses larges éjections.
Description de l'image
Dans cette grande nébuleuse planétaire, l'étoile centrale est masquée par un nuage de poussière rosé et irrégulier. Une forte lumière rouge émane de cette zone, illuminant la poussière environnante. Deux grandes boucles s'étendent en diagonale depuis le centre, formées de fines crêtes de gaz moléculaire, ici colorées en bleu, s'étendant jusqu'aux bords de l'image. Un grand nombre d'étoiles brillantes et blanchâtres couvrent le fond, également visibles à travers les fines couches de poussière (cf. ESA/Webb, NASA et CSA, J. H. Kastner Institut de technologie de Rochester).
