He almost got away....
Was shooting some pictures at my brother's wedding. Unfortunately, most of the shots later in the evening were at high ISO as I do not have light equipment.
The staff shut down the light when they brought out the cake, allowing me to create strong contrast between the fireworks and the background. I love how the fireworks also light up the fronts of the waiters.
Unfortunately, I had no time to switch to lower ISO (as would have been possible given the super fast shutter time). The grain is a pity, but I'm still happy I made this shot.
your everyday run-o-the mill fondant swagged cake made pretty with some beeyootiful hydrangeas and parrot tulips
This is a dummy cake for a display. I wanted to capture the feeling of the Snow Maiden from Russian folk tales. The topper is based on a kokoshnik - the Russian wedding crown - and the rest of the cake loosely on traditional Russian court robes.
For a bridal show this weekend. All fondant and edible detailing. Hand painting in gold-not 24kt as it's a display cake. Ruffly rosettes, molded jewels, sugar pearls, etc. Really really loving this kind of work lately, I don't want to do anything else. If I could rename myself Caketress or Cake Opera I would. And Dot too, Dot for her lovely little areas of cake covered in sugar pearls and non pariels.
Made Explore #214 on 8-24-11! Yay!

Last night I snacked on some wedding cake at a special open house for brides-to-be. No, this isn't my way of sharing some exciting personal news. I was working at the event, supporting Mark, who shoots a lot of weddings and was meeting some potential new clients.
I just loved the look of this cake. The cake samples were served in tiny thumbnail-sized bites. So dainty. Somehow you just taste something more when it's served in careful little morsels.
I did this cake for brides magazine for their "50 most beautiful cakes in america" article last year--- total thrill!

I wanted to make a different style of cake for this weekend's wedding fair. I was inspired by the gorgeous sherbet pastel colours on the runways this season.
Chocolate cake with chocolate ganache filling and vanilla buttercream. The sugar flowers match a pattern from the brides dress.

I can't remember if this was made for a wedding or a debut, but I know the client wanted an all-pink cake, so she got it! :-)
