Wedding Date Chapel - A romantic automated wedding service at an outdoor Wedding Chapel. No fuss, easy instructions. No appointment necessary, open 24/7. Great wedding backdrops available for beautiful weddng photos - just use the teleporter!
This was taken at the San Juan Batista mission in front of the gift store. The mission was established in 1797 and there is a lot of history here. They still have weekly services here and while we were visiting, there was a wedding service. This building was built in the early 1800s and is still standing tall.
The parish Church of St Augustine has the unusual, if not unique, feature of an entirely wooden spire being separate from the body of the church. Popular myth is that the steeple looked down at a wedding service to see such a beautiful bride marrying such an unpleasant groom that it jumped off the church in shock. A more popular story is that one day a virgin presented herself to be married and the church spire fell off at the unusual occurrence. In fact, it is separate as the weight can not be supported by the marshy ground.
Inside the church there is a round lead font dating from the 12th century. Around its circumference are panels with reliefs showing the 12 Zodiac signs and the typical labours of each month.
I remember this particular evening very well, Hoof just wanted us to find a nice quiet location where he could just chill out clear his head and put together a very moving moment in history.
I can now reveal that Hoof was asked by Prince Harry to deliver the sermon/address at the Royal wedding. Hoof is a very fine public speaker plus he was ex Blues and Royals and went to Sandhurst, (which is a story in itself).
After lengthy discussions it was felt people around the world may not take seriously a Horse delivering a sermon, so Bishop Curry’s name was put forward. Harry was disappointed as he had seen first hand Hoof delivering true stories in a pub that Harry & Wills use near where we live.
So it was decided that Hoof would Face Time Bishop Curry during the wedding service, all true remember the iPad on the lectern, so Hoof was saying it and the Bishop was lip sinking it, and portraying the actions Hoof would have used on the screen.
However Hoof being the rascal that he is knew there was a time limit of 5 mins, so he started to stretch it out a bit to some 13 mins, this is why poor old Bishop Curry went so quiet near the end, he was Knac whoops, exhausted.

Immigrants from Norway first began settling in Bosque County in 1854. Most days were spent clearing land, building shelter, harvesting food, and providing for everyday essentials. But Sundays were days of rest and for gathering to worship in homes. In 1886, St Olafs Kirke (The Rock Church) was built with mostly volunteer labor by church members, using rocks hauled from the mountain to the south. The church has neither running water nor electricity, and is heated by an old wood-burning stove. Both the stove and the Vocalion Reed Pump Organ (a rare instrument which has been recently restored), were manufactured before 1900. The hand-painted finish on the pews mimic more expensive wood. Pews, floors, and light fixtures are all original. In 1897, the Ladies Aid Organization purchased the Swedish bell which still hangs in the bell tower. An hour before services were to begin, the bell would ring, reminding people, “This is Sunday. Come to church.”

Rystad, who was pastor at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Norse (est. 1869), also served the new congregation at The Rock Church from 1886 until 1902, when St. Olaf’s congregation was able to support a preacher of its own. Church membership had grown enough by 1917 to require the “new” St. Olaf Church be built in Cranfills Gap. The congregation is responsible for both church buildings. Services were conducted in Norwegian until the 1940s.
St Olafs Kirke is used for special services at Easter, Christmas Eve, and other planned events. It is a favorite spot for a quiet, simple wedding service, and serves on occasion for baptisms or funerals. The adjacent cemetery has been expanded to almost 3,000 spaces.

Yosemite Valley Chapel stands out against a winter wonderland amid heavy falling snow. The historic building, original built in 1879, is nondenominational and has been host to countless weddings, services, and events for 140 years and counting. On the morning of March 3rd, 2018, the tail end of a huge winter storm is depositing the last of its snow on the chapel and the valley floor which already has well over a foot. The colorful chapel really stands out in the nearly monochrome world around it.

The Sint Geertruidsgasthuis (English: Saint Gertrude's Guest House), better known as the Pepergasthuis (English: Pepper Guest House), is a hofje on the Peperstraat in Groningen.
The Pepergasthuis was founded in 1405 by Berneer Solleder and his son Albert. Originally it served as a guest house for pilgrims who came to Groningen, because the Martinikerk (Groningen) kept a relic of John the Baptist that attracted many pilgrims to Groningen. Because of that destination the guest house was named after Gertrude of Nivelles, the patron of the travellers. But the guest house had financial problems, so people like Pope Sixtus IV donated money. Menso Jetlema donated estates, but wanted the guest house to give a ton of herring to the poor people of the village of Faan every year.
After the capitulation of Groningen (the Spanish Occupier capitulated for the army of Maurice of Nassau and William Louis, Count of Nassau-Dillenburg) in 1594 the complex, like all Catholic buildings, got a new destination. The guest house changed into a residential complex for older people of the city. People of 50 years and older could buy a spot in the guest house. They didn't only get a place to live till their death, but also care. The residents were called conventualen.
Next to that a part of the complex was set up as a dolhuis, a house for mentally ill people. The people who were housed here were exhibited for pay on Sundays. In 1702 they were moved to a new guest house at the Rademarkt. The complex has been extended several times, most recently in 1861.
Through the twentieth century, more and more houses in the complex emptied. The increasing price appeared to be a barrier. Thus in 1954 it was decided that the houses could also be hired, after which the vacancy quickly disappeared.
The chapel is now being used for ecumenical services. The old dining room is used for wedding services, and there is also a restaurant in the building. The homes are now rented out by a housing association.

The church has neither running water nor electricity, and is heated by an old wood-burning stove. Both the stove and the Vocalion Reed Pump Organ (a rare instrument which has been recently restored), were manufactured before 1900. The hand-painted finish on the pews mimic more expensive wood. Pews, floors, and light fixtures are all original. In 1897, the Ladies Aid Organization purchased the Swedish bell which still hangs in the bell tower. An hour before services were to begin, the bell would ring, reminding people, “This is Sunday. Come to church.”

Rystad, who was pastor at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Norse (est. 1869), also served the new congregation at The Rock Church from 1886 until 1902, when St. Olaf’s congregation was able to support a preacher of its own. Church membership had grown enough by 1917 to require the “new” St. Olaf Church be built in Cranfills Gap. The congregation is responsible for both church buildings. Services were conducted in Norwegian until the 1940s.
St Olafs Kirke is used for special services at Easter, Christmas Eve, and other planned events. It is a favorite spot for a quiet, simple wedding service, and serves on occasion for baptisms or funerals. The adjacent cemetery has been expanded to almost 3,000 spaces.

My father, Bert, was born on January 12th, in 1919, to Florence and Levi Martin, a farm worker, at White Cottages, Whitton, Suffolk. One of six children, he was a cub, scout, and server at church. Aged 13, he won a crossword competition and spent his prize money on a puppy.
He met May at Claydon High School and they married in 1941. Already conscripted, he wore his uniform for the wedding service. Four months later he was sent to war on the troopship, the Rangitiki.
Captured at Tobruk, he spent 3 years as a PoW, in camps in N Africa, Italy and Germany. He was among PoWs sent in by the Germans to “clear up the mess” after the firebombing of Dresden.
He went on the run in Czechoslovakia in the final stages of the war, eventually being liberated by the US Third Army.
He arrived home to his wife at their cottage in Paper Mill Lane, Claydon on May 25th, 1945. My parents enjoyed 45 years of marriage; my sister and I were born in 1946 and 1950.
Bert always lived in his native Suffolk. He worked first as a printer's apprentice and then as an estimator for a local firm, British Steel Piling.
He loved his garden, photography, and music, playing trumpet and harmonica, baking, and supporting the local Football Club.
I remember him as a calm person with a sense of humour and fair play. He was also a methodical and meticulous person in everything he did, this very much evidenced in the diary he kept during his wartime service.
He died in 1998, aged 79, his wish to publish his diary unfulfilled; at last in 2017, it gave me great satisfaction and a sense of pride to achieve its publication.
The original handwritten diary is lodged with the Second World War Experience Centre, for posterity and research purposes.
