There's something in the air and while it may not be love,
some say it's the next best thing -- negative ions.
You may have experienced the power of negative ions when you last set foot on the beach or at the mountains. While part of the euphoria is simply being around the wondrous settings and away from the normal pressures of home and work, the air circulating in the mountains and the beach is said to contain tens of thousands of negative ions -- Much more than the average home or office building, which contain dozens or hundreds, and many register a flat zero.
Negative ions are odorless, tasteless, and invisible molecules that we inhale in abundance in certain environments. Think mountains, waterfalls, and beaches. Once they reach our bloodstream, negative ions are believed to produce biochemical reactions that increase levels of the mood chemical serotonin, helping to alleviate depression, relieve stress, and boost our daytime energy.

"Pink noise is a constant sound in the background. It filters out things that distract you, like people talking or cars going by, so they don't interrupt your sleep. You may hear it called ambient noise. Like white noise, it's a steady background hum that may give you a better night's sleep." (WebMD.com)

As these are one of my favourite berries, I have posted quite a few images of them. Here is more information, for those who are interested:
Sea buckthorn is an herb. The leaves, flowers, and fruits are used to make medicine.
Sea buckthorn leaves and flowers are used for treating arthritis, gastrointestinal ulcers, gout, and skin rashes caused by infectious diseases such as measles. A tea containing sea buckthorn leaves is used as a source of vitamins, antioxidants, protein building blocks (amino acids), fatty acids and minerals; for improving blood pressure and lowering cholesterol; preventing and controlling blood vessel diseases; and boosting immunity.
Sea buckthorn berries are used for preventing infections, improving sight, and slowing the aging process.
The seed or berry oil is used as an expectorant for loosening phlegm; for treating asthma, heart disorders including chest pain (angina) and high cholesterol; for preventing blood vessel disease; and as an antioxidant. Sea buckthorn oil is also used for slowing the decline of thinking skills with age; reducing illness due to cancer, as well as limiting the toxicity of chemical cancer treatment (chemotherapy); balancing the immune system; treating stomach and intestinal diseases including ulcers and reflux esophagitis (GERD); treating night blindness and dry eye; and as a supplemental source of vitamins C, A, and E, beta-carotene, minerals, amino acids, and fatty acids.
Some people apply sea buckthorn berries, berry concentrate, and berry or seed oil directly to the skin for preventing sunburn; for treating radiation damage from x-rays and sunburns; for healing wounds including bedsores, burns, and cuts; for acne, dermatitis, dry skin, eczema, skin ulcers, and skin color changes after giving birth; and for protecting mucus membranes.
In foods, sea buckthorn berries are used to make jellies, juices, purees, and sauces.
In manufacturing, sea buckthorn is used in cosmetics and anti-aging products.

The average speed of a sneeze is about 100 miles per hour, as noted by WebMD. Each sneeze packs a germy wallop, too, with each sneeze sending about 100,000 germs flying through the air.
The Best thing is that when my kids went to school they were taught to sneeze into the bend of the elbow - Not to cover with there hands.
I think this really works great - we almost never have colds anymore.

I am not getting paid to advertise these products but I just want you to see what I have and where I bought them, in case you are wondering where can you find this type of products. Maybe you can find different models in a store somewhere as well.
It only takes one tablespoon of soybeans, water and about 10-14 minutes to make 27 oz of soymilk (800 ml). For a creamier texture, you can use 2 or 3 tablespoons of soybeans. You can add other ingredients as well: cinnamon, vanilla, salt, agave syrup, turmeric powder etc.
(I do recommend to not fill it exactly to the line Boil but a bit under so it doesn’t spill, especially if you add more than one tablespoon of soybeans, oats etc)
This 5lb or 2.27 kg of soybeans will last me longtime!
By using a nut milk maker, I am not only having control of the ingredients that go into my milk but I also create less garbage, since I am buying less plastic bottles of nutmilk from the store. I only buy them when I travel and can’t have my nut milk maker so I reduce the amount of plastic bottles or boxes of nut milk from 60 a year to maximum 5.
With this nutmilk maker you can also make almond, cashew, walnut, hemp, flaxseed milk, boil water for a tea or make a smoothie. It has 5 modes that regulates the temperature from room temperature to boil point. It comes with a little booklet of recipes.
No newborn baby cow was separated from his mom to be killed or imprisoned in a dairy farm in order for me to have this milk.
Soy milk benefits:
“Brain Health
Soy milk is rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which are “healthy” fats that your body cannot form on its own. Omega-3 fatty acids are linked to a reduced risk of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. Soy milk is still being studied for its effect on these diseases, but soy in general is one of the best non-animal sources of omega-3 fatty acids.
Improved Heart Health
Soy milk can also help support your cardiovascular system. Soy milk is an excellent source of potassium, whether or not it has been fortified. Potassium is deeply connected to maintaining lower blood pressure and a regular pulse. Furthermore, soy milk has been linked to lower cholesterol levels, especially in people who have high cholesterol.
Reduced Symptoms of Menopause
Soy milk contains isoflavones, which are a class of chemical known as “phytoestrogens.” These isoflavones react in the body like a weak form of estrogen. Because of that, studies have shown that consuming soy milk and other soy products might help reduce the symptoms of menopause, such as hot flashes.”
This information comes from:
www.webmd.com/diet/health-benefits-soy-milk
Are you afraid of soy? Japanese people have soy on a daily basis and they are slimmer and have less cases of cancer than people from US and the Western countries where cow’s milk is used instead.
But Dr. Neal Barnard and Dr Michael Klaper can tell you more about soy milk:

Man has five physical senses that have their own functions: vision, hearing, smell, taste, and touch. But there is one additional sense, the sixth sense that is often called inexplicable with common sense.
Some people have abilities such as reading other people's thoughts, knowing events or things others don't know, feeling something is not right, or seeing the future. This ability is often referred to as the sixth sense.
The sixth sense can be interpreted as a tool to feel something instinctively (intuitively). In psychology, the sixth sense or intuition is also known as extrasensory perception (ESP) or additional senses, i.e. the ability to receive information that is not obtained through (five) physical senses but is felt with the mind. The sixth sense so far has almost always been associated with mystical things. But as it turns out, the sixth sense is able to be explained by logic and scientific evidence.
Until now, many researchers were interested in uncovering the phenomenon of the sixth sense. There is even research showing that the sixth sense is related to our brains. There is a part of the brain called the anterior cingulated cortex (ACC) that is thought to be able to monitor or sense small changes in the surrounding environment, even if we are unaware of it. These changes are then used as a basis for adjusting our behavior.
The ACC located at the front of the brain is thought to be able to sense danger. As a result, the ACC is able to provide early warning that helps us escape unpleasant situations. In addition, ACC activity also increases if we turn out to have made a mistake or will make a decision. The ACC seems to be giving an early warning so that we are more cautious and not mis-step.
One researcher said that humans can realize and use visual information without having to see it. Humans have the sensitivity of the mind and the ability to detect different things so that it can lead to a sense of change in an event. If we are able to sense an event is going to happen, it's because the human mind is quite sensitive. However, this opinion still requires more research.
Many scientists seek to reveal the mystery behind the sixth sense in order to be explained with common sense and logic. There are researchers who eventually believe that the sixth sense does exist, but many also doubt its existence. Medically, the phenomenon of the sixth sense is indeed inconclusive. The sixth sense-related explanation of the above medical glasses is based solely on small-scale research that still requires further clinical trials.

The inner eye is a person's ability to see everything that is invisible in general. Some people have been given this advantage since birth. As for those who do not have the ability to use the inner eye, there needs to be a special practice to activate it.
Opening your inner eye will certainly give you a high curiosity. Especially those of you who are very interested in the unseen. But indeed the inner eye is not only applied to observe the unseen. The function of the inner eye itself is actually more than that.
When one's inner eye is perfectly opened, then his concentration in worship is very high. This will make the relationship and God feel closer. As if able to keep communication to his Lord very well.
Being able to feel positive and negative energy in the surrounding environment, is one of the characteristics of having perfected one's inner eye. This positive and negative energy is able to lead people to do right or wrong. In addition, it is able to sense the presence of delicate creatures around. Anyone who has the ability of the inner eye perfectly, can see the aura produced from others. The aura is a radiance of color that describes the characteristics of one's self. Of course it is very useful, to know the nature and character of a person.
Well, there are very few reviews of the characteristics of the inner eye that have been perfectly opened.
5 Things To Experience When Your Inner Eye Opens Perfectly.
Being able to look and feel what others can't see and experience can sound like something interesting. But, in fact, that is not the case. A man who opens his inner eye does not necessarily think so, in fact the opposite. It is like a matter of great danger. Especially if the purpose is not clear or just messing around and not based on strong faith.
- When a person's inner eye is opened, he will feel a very noticeable difference. His view is able to see things he has never seen before. Therefore, it is necessary to be mentally strong when it comes to deciding to open the inner eye. Otherwise, the stress it will cause can even cause mental disorders.
- Someone who has just opened his inner eye, will be shocked to see the unseen things that have been unseen. Fear will haunt the person for some time. However, if he is able to process his mental health then the fear will fade over time.
- According to supernatural experts, supernatural beings are able to know someone who has the ability of the inner eye. Not only that, the supernatural is also interested in approaching the person. In fact, not only one or two creatures approach the person, there can even be a lot of them.
- One's faith has a profound effect on the person whose inner eye is opened. If the person's faith is strong, it is less likely that the person is impaired from a delicate being. But if his faith is not strong it is not only disturbed, even the supernatural being is not reluctant to possess the person's body.
- if a person opens his inner eye then the person cannot close it again. But there are also cases where a person cannot open his inner eyes. Actually, his open inner eyes can be closed again. But there needs to be gradual steps to do so. So the inner eye cannot be closed instantly.
When I was a little kid, and by little I mean veeeeeery little, I had a lazy eye. My parents tried to fix it by making me wear pirate patches. Arrrrr matey.

Now, I know I heard somewhere that coffee can be good for you. So, I did a bit of googling this morning and founf out (via webMD) that it is.
Coffee , believe it or not helps with Diabetes, it counters certain risk factors for heart attack and stroke, and it has been found that coffee consumption has been associated with lower risks of Parkinson's disease and Dementia. Who knew:D . Just don't overdo it though.

This photo is for the group Macro Monday's and this week the theme is "In a Bottle".
This is my bottle of Co Q 10. Supposedly Co Q 10 is to help give you energy and helps with keeping your muscles strong... or that was what I was under the impression of. I can tell you that it's not helped with either after months of use... unless I'm actually dead... and in that case it's helped!! :0
Here's what Web MD says about Co Q 10:
Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) is a substance similar to a vitamin. It is found in every cell of the body. Your body makes CoQ10, and your cells use it to produce energy your body needs for cell growth and maintenance. It also functions as an antioxidant, which protects the body from damage caused by harmful molecules.
Many claims are made about CoQ10. It is said to help heart failure, as well as cancer, muscular dystrophy, and periodontal disease. It is also said to boost energy and speed recovery from exercise. Some people take it to help reduce the effects certain medicines can have on the heart, muscles, and other organs.

January 13th is Clean Off Your Desk Day.
Did you know, according to WebMD, there are more than 10 million bacteria are on a typical office desk, which is 400 times more bacteria than found on the average toilet seat. This is because as the day goes on, you are probably touching many other things that many people are touching, and bringing the germs back to your desk.

New Omicron Subvariant Is 'Crazy Infectious,' COVID Expert Warns
Ralph Ellis
January 10, 2023
.
The newest subvariant of Omicron, XBB.1.5, is so transmissible that everybody is at risk of catching it, even if they've already been infected and are fully vaccinated, a health expert told USA Today.
"It's crazy infectious," said Paula Cannon, PhD., a virologist at the University of Southern California. "All the things that have protected you for the past couple of years, I don't think are going to protect you against this new crop of variants."
XBB.1.5 is spreading quickly in the United States. It accounted for 27.6% of cases in the country last week, up from about 1% of cases at one point in December, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. It's especially prevalent in the Northeast, now accounting for more than 70% of the cases in that region.
It's spreading across the globe, too. Maria Van Kerkhove, PhD., technical lead of the World Health Organization, has called XBB.1.5 is "the most transmissible subvariant that has been detected yet."
Ashish Jha, MD, the White House COVID-19 response coordinator, tweeted a few days ago that the spread of XBB.1.5 is "stunning" but cautioned that it's unclear if the symptoms of infection will be more severe than for previous variants.
"Whether we'll have an XBB.1.5 wave (and if yes, how big) will depend on many factors including immunity of the population, people's actions, etc.," he tweeted.
He urged people to get up to date on their boosters, wear a snug-fitting mask, and avoid crowded indoor spaces. He noted that people who haven't been infected recently or haven't gotten the bivalent booster likely have little protection against infection.
The symptoms for XBB.1.5 appear to be the same as for other versions of COVID-19. However, it's less common for people infected with XBB.1.5 to report losing their sense of taste and smell, USA Today reported.

The most indelible disappointment and takeaway from this COVID pandemic will be the failure of my fellow Americans to get vaccinated. Why are we so divided about something that seems so apparent? This division is why we’re now experiencing yet another rise in infections, this time from the delta variant.
Americans’ belief in the immutability of our individual rights has often collided with our concern for the public good. Our Declaration of Independence states that the authority to govern is given only by the consent of its people. Some treat this as an absolute. But we have many laws which limit the rights of individuals. As the dire nature of the pandemic became evident, efforts to contain it with mask mandates and lockdowns only intensified the altercations between personal freedom advocates and those who believed in doing what’s appropriate for the greater good. We have been on this trajectory for decades. I’m disappointed because this is who we are.
There is that giant elephant in the room. The virus’ origin story, former President Trump’s inability to formulate a national response, with his complete abdication of any responsibility, and the Republican Party’s and right-leaning media’s politicization of this crisis are all responsible. Science deniers have always been a part of our culture. The politics of the right — to win elections at any cost and use the COVID crisis as a wedge issue — has exacerbated that divide and stoked an already incendiary distrust in our institutions. Promoting disinformation and conspiracy theories for political gain while people are dying is galling.
Most recent outbreaks are in red states, where political leaders not only discourage mask mandates they have prohibited them. Despite this bit of GOP Russian roulette, leaders in some of these conservative and rural states are noticing the negative optics of their decisions. Florida governor Ron DeSantis, whose campaign was selling “Don’t Fauci My Florida” t-shirts a few weeks ago, has reconsidered his message after discovering his state accounts for twenty percent of new COVID cases. “These vaccines are saving lives. They are reducing mortality,” he pivoted. Republican Alabama Governor Kay Ivey is finally urging her constituents to get vaccinated as the state has one of the lowest vaccination rates in the nation. She told reporters, “I want folks to get vaccinated. That’s the cure. That prevents everything. It’s time to start blaming the unvaccinated folks, not the regular folks. It’s the unvaccinated folks that are letting us down.” When did Republicans begin referring to vaccinated Americans as “regular folks”? And why did it take them so long to advocate for vaccinations? Blame has become part of the bedrock of this crisis. Their decisions have little to do with the human cost. There are now political and economic incentives to do so.
As Washington Post opinion writer E.J. Dionne stated, “It’s the new political geography of sickness and death.” He quotes Democratic pollster Guy Molyneux who said, “I wouldn’t be surprised if GOP pols are hearing from business leaders: Knock it off with the anti-vax nonsense.” Red state businesses have no desire for more lockdowns.
But isn’t this what many of us have been saying all along? We don’t want lockdowns either. But it may be necessary for the short term if we want this pandemic to end. Follow the science. Wear masks and get vaccinated. We’ve all suffered from the loss of our friends and relatives. Many of us have lost our jobs and our homes. And most of us have been sequestered in our houses for over a year.
From the very beginning, our leaders failed to present a unified voice of reason, one that focused on our distrust and hesitancy while promoting short-term sacrifices. The mis- and disinformation that scientists and doctors like Anthony Fauci are lying to us or don’t know what they’re talking about is a common criticism. “They keep changing their minds” shows a misunderstanding of scientific inquiry. Science is based on facts. Scientists test hypotheses about the way COVID infects people. When research shows these hypotheses are accurate, they become theories that become part of our knowledge base. Sometimes new information supersedes previous conclusions.
The coronavirus is constantly evolving. Variants have developed more efficient ways of infecting a host. The delta variant’s infection rate is higher because its virus load is greater than in previous variants. So, even if we know a lot about how the original coronavirus works, new variants present differently. Scientists aren’t lying to us or simply changing their minds. They’re adapting to new information that has resulted from their studies. This process is the message our leaders should have and still need to convey to the public.
To date, fifty percent of Americans have been fully vaccinated. While vaccines aren’t one hundred percent effective, they go a long way to protect people from the disease, even the more communicable delta variant. Most break-through infections of vaccinated people do not lead to death or even hospitalization. But what about the other fifty percent? Ninety-nine percent of COVID deaths right now are those who were unvaccinated.
Hospital COVID patients are now expressing their regret at not getting the vaccine. And many are begging for it now. Dr. Brytney Cobia at the Grandview Medical Center in Birmingham, Alabama wrote in a Facebook post: “I’m admitting young, healthy people to the hospital with very serious COVID infections. One of the last things they do before they’re intubated is beg me for the vaccine. I hold their hand and tell them that I’m sorry, but it’s too late.”
Are Americans finally going to do what it takes to end this pandemic? The Department of Veterans Affairs has just become the first federal agency to require vaccinations of all its front-line workers. Hundreds of colleges and universities have mandated vaccinations for all returning students.
But by the end of May 2021, twenty-five percent of health care workers and over thirty-eight percent of nursing home workers were still not vaccinated. The American Public Health Association, the American Pharmacists Association, the National Medical Association (which represents over 50,000 Black doctors), and 54 other groups are now calling for vaccine mandates for all health workers.
President Biden has just issued a mandatory vaccination mandate (or regular COVID tests) for all federal employees. The Pentagon is following suit for all military personnel. Will this encourage the private sector to do the same?
This wave of sanity is still in its early stages. So it’s unclear if these efforts will be enough. Former Trump press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, who’s running for Arkansas governor, blamed the Biden Administration for vaccine hesitancies: “No one did more to undercut public confidence in the vaccine than Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. Biden doubted that the vaccine would be ‘real,’ while Harris said in her debate [with Vice President Pence] that she would not take any vaccine the Trump administration had a hand in creating.” Sadly, Sanders’ remarks reflect the partisanship that has fueled this pandemic. Biden and Harris made those comments while Trump was president. Their concerns reflected their distrust of any self-centered motives he might have had for rushing a vaccine’s development. In her debate with Pence, Harris stated she would be one of the first to take a vaccine endorsed by Dr. Fauci. But she voiced her concerns about taking one promoted solely by Trump.
Many still view mandates as intimidating. Randi Weingarten, the president of the American Federation of Teachers, issued a statement in which he said, “In order for everyone to feel safe and welcome in their workplaces, vaccinations must be negotiated between employers and workers, not coerced.” While Henry A. Garrido, the executive director of District Council 37, New York City’s largest municipal employees union, tweeted, “If the Mayor wants to mandate Vax or weekly testing for City employees, he must first [bargain] over its impact.” I think we’re beyond pleading, offering incentives, or negotiating.
If we’d worn masks and gotten the vaccine, there probably wouldn’t have been a delta variant. And the worst would be over. Our ignorance and obstinance have resulted in the deaths of over 600,000 Americans and millions across the world. I’d like to think we’ve learned something. But many are still suspicious, and their fear and disregard for “real” facts have made them easy targets for 21st-century shysters and political opportunists.
COVID really kills. Our morgues are full of proof. Let there be no more tearful goodbyes. No regrets. Get the shot.

According to webmd, Turpentine oil, when inhaled, may help reduce congestion. When used on the skin, turpentine oil may cause warmth and redness that can help relieve pain in the tissue underneath." Sniffing it seems to be OK, but ingestion???

I took this shot in manual mode with an aperture of f/3.6 for 1/125sec and the image was lit by an led macro light held above the bottle. The background is white copy paper bent to form a continuous backdrop.
I heard about vaporub being used on feet at night to relieve coughing when you have a cold etc. So having come down with a cold and coughing all night I thought I'd give it a go, to my surprise it worked and I got a good nights sleep, not sure why but it got me curious if it had any other uses and this is what I found.
1. Decongest Your Chest
The most common use of Vicks is to decongest your chest and throat area. When applied to the upper chest, it provides excellent relief of cough and congestion symptoms.
2. On Your Tootsies
Applying Vicks to your feet provides nighttime cough relief. Generously rub VapoRub all over your feet and cover them with socks. Within moments your cough will subside—in the morning you’ll wake up a new, hacking free woman.
3. Achy Breaky Muscles
Vicks relieves sore, overworked muscles. It increases circulation and provides almost instant aid. Use a generous portion and apply it all over the aching area. (Be sure to warn your bedmate as the stench can ensure a nookie-free night.)
4. Get Rid of Nasty Nail Fungus
Rub VapoRub on your toenails if you suspect you have a fungus. Within days, the nail will turn dark—this means the Vicks is killing the fungus. As your toenail grows out, the dark part will grow off and you will have fungus-free feet. Keep applying the ointment over a period of two weeks to fully cleanse nail beds of any remaining bacteria.
5. Stop Your Cat from Scratching
Cats are notorious for scratching every hard surface they get their claws on. To prevent Miss Kitty from ruining your doors, walls, and windows, apply a small amount of VapoRub to these areas. Cats detest the smell and will steer clear. Vicks can also be applied to your arms and legs if your kitty is prone to scratching you.
6. Pet Pee-Pee Deterrent
If your dog or cat is not yet potty trained, put an open bottle of Vicks on the area he or she likes to mark as their territory. The smell will discourage them from lifting their legs and wetting your rug.
7. Headaches Be Gone
Rub a small amount of Vicks VapoRub on your temples and forehead to help relieve headaches. The mentholated scent will release pressure in your head and instantly relieve pain.
8. Humidify Your Sleep
Vicks VapoRub can be used in special types of humidifiers and vaporizers. Ensure your humidifier has an aromatherapy compartment before using. The humidifier will circulate Vicks throughout the air and keep you breathing easy all night long.
9. Paper Cuts and Splinters
To prevent infection and speed up healing time, dab a small amount of Vicks on any small cut or splinter.
10. Ticks and Bugs
If you get bitten by a tick, apply Vicks immediately. The strong odor might help get the critter to release itself and stop bugging you.
11. Reek-free Racehorses
Professional racers smother VapoRub under the nostrils of racehorses on race day. The strong stench deters the stallions from the alluring odor of the female pony and keeps them focused on the race.
12. Go Away Mosquitoes
Vicks wards off mosquitoes. Apply small dabs of Vicks VapoRub to your skin and clothes and mosquitoes will steer clear. If you do get bitten, apply Vicks to the area and cover it with a Band-Aid to relieve itching.
According to WebMD, there have been a few complications in children when Vicks is used inappropriately. A few children reacted negatively and ended up hospitalized when Vicks was applied directly under the nose. Though this is extremely rare and only happens to those who are sensitive to Vicks, consumers should use caution when applying it to the face or on young children.
Even though its strong stench may cost me a few friendships, I am definitely heading to the nearest drugstore to stock up on this little blue smelly bottle. After all, I never know the next time I’ll have a headache, or am heading to the racetrack.

The calendula flower has been used to prevent muscle spasms and reduce fever. It is also used for treating sore throat and mouth, cancer, and stomach and duodenal ulcers.
Calendula has also been used for measles, smallpox, and jaundice.
Calendula is applied to the skin to reduce pain and swelling (inflammation) and to treat poorly healing wounds and leg ulcers.
It is also applied to the skin (used topically) for nosebleeds, varicose veins, hemorrhoids, inflammation of the rectum (proctitis), ear infection, gum disease, peeling lips (exfoliative cheilitis), diaper rash, and inflammation of the lining of the eyelid (conjunctivitis).
Essential oil of calendula has been used as an insect repellant.
I was wandering the event grounds and stumbled upon the tent where someone had just started singing, and that is how I heard Gabi. She mentioned being happy to feel good enough to get out of the house that day and began to rock the stage with her singing.
I was unable to stay for the whole performance, but could hear her from the tent I was tasked on manning that day.
After her performance she found me as I had taken some pictures of her on stage and she wondered if I could send them. 'Of course!' and I asked to take a few more to have better ones to send her.
I learned that she was struggling with a rare disease known as gastroparesis. She said some days were better than others, and while she looked okay she did not always feel okay. This brought up another struggle of how some diseases have effects that the outsider cannot always see.
Her message to the world, 'Every little bit helps'. She is a single mother with two wonderful boys and is happy to have them with her in her fight to get better. She hopes to fight through it too.
A pleasure to meet you, Gabi (and kids). Thanks for sharing your story.

I find this wild flower very attractive. Maybe I was a bee in a former life because bees like chickory, too! Next slides, please!
Webmd.com has this to say about this 'weed':
Chicory is a plant. Its seeds, roots, and dried, above-ground parts are used to make medicine.
Chicory is used for liver and heart health, constipation, swelling, and other conditions, but there is no good evidence to support its use.
In foods, chicory leaves are often eaten like celery, and the roots and leaf buds are boiled and eaten. Chicory is also used as a cooking spice and to flavor foods and beverages. Some coffee mixes include ground chicory to enhance the richness of the coffee.
How does it work?
Chicory root has a mild laxative effect, increases bile from the gallbladder, and decreases swelling. Chicory is a rich source of beta-carotene.
Please share the message with as many people as you can. Thanks.
Estimated new cases and deaths from breast cancer in the United States in 2009:
New cases: 192,370 (female); 1,910 (male)
Deaths: 40,170 (female); 440 (male)
----http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/types/breast
Symptoms
Early breast cancer usually doesn't cause symptoms. But as the tumor grows, it can change how the breast looks or feels. The common changes include:
A lump or thickening in or near the breast or in the underarm area
A change in the size or shape of the breast
Dimpling or puckering in the skin of the breast
A nipple turned inward into the breast
Discharge (fluid) from the nipple, especially if it's bloody
Scaly, red, or swollen skin on the breast, nipple, or areola (the dark area of skin at the center of the breast). The skin may have ridges or pitting so that it looks like the skin of an orange.
You should see your health care provider about any symptom that does not go away.
Most often, these symptoms are not due to cancer. Another health problem could cause them. If you have any of these symptoms, you should tell your health care provider so that the problems can be diagnosed and treated.

Inflamatory Breast Cancer, (IBC) (mentioned by Spangles44. See her coments below):
IBC is a rare but very aggressive type of breast cancer.
IBC usually grows rapidly and often spreads to other parts of the body; symptoms include redness, swelling, and warmth in the breast.
-----http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/factsheet/Sites-Types/IBC
Breast Cancer Screening and Detection
...The lifetime risk (to age 85) of a woman developing breast cancer in 1940 was 5% or one in 20; the risk is now 13.4% or almost one in 8.
...Women who undergo breast cancer screening mammograms have demonstrated significantly reduced deaths from the disease.
The effectiveness of any breast cancer screening program will depend on how often women are screened, compliance with screening recommendations, and the quality of the screening test.
-----http://www.webmd.com/breast-cancer/guide/screening-detection-overview
Hope:
Many labs are constantly working to fight breast cancer. Newer drugs are appearing time to time as a result of those studies. For example,
Salinomycin has been shown by Piyush Gupta et al. of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the Broad Institute to kill breast cancer stem cells at least 100 times more effectively than another popular anti-cancer drug (paclitaxel) in mice.
----http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salinomycin
A Note.
Recent studies show that breast cancer is linked to several environmental and genetic factors which can be controlled or mitigated.

"Google is down with New York City.
So down, in fact, that the web search titan just dropped $1.9 billion to acquire one of the largest and most historic buildings in all of the Big Apple. At nearly 3 million square feet, 111 Eighth Avenue, the former Port Authority building, sits like a beached, red-brick cruise ship overlooking New York’s Chelsea neighborhood. The building is so big, in fact, that it has elevators large enough to accommodate 18-wheel semi-trucks.
And yes, that’s a helicopter landing pad on the roof.
It’s tough to describe how massive 111 Eighth Avenue is — you really have to stand in front of it. But suffice it to say that it takes about 20 minutes to walk once around the building, which encompasses one of those very long city blocks found on the West Side. The size is all the more striking because in a densely-packed city like New York, which is full of very tall buildings, it’s rare to find one that is so horizontally gigantic.
Then again, if you think about the commerce and trade that built New York into the most important city in the world, you can understand why the Port Authority needed such a massive structure.
111 Eighth Avenue was designed by Lusby Simpson and completed in 1932, just one year after the Empire State Building and the Chrysler Building. In fact, one way to think about 111 Eighth Avenue is like the Empire State Building on its side. It’s worth noting that the Empire State Building has just over 2 million square feet of office space — about 1 million less than 111 Eighth Avenue.
Needless to say, it’s quite an upgrade from Google’s first New York City office — a Starbucks on 86th Street.
But 111 Eighth Avenue is no ordinary humongous building. As it happens, the structure sits almost directly on top of where the Hudson Street/Ninth Avenue fiber highway makes a dog-leg to the right before heading north-east toward the Upper West Side.
In New York City, fiber-optic cables travel in large bundles underneath the asphalt.
The building’s previous owners, a consortium led by Taconic Investment Partners, knew that proximity to the fiber-line would be attractive to companies, so they tricked out the building with something called a network-neutral “Meet-Me” room, which is literally a room filled with networking equipment that allows the tenants to connect with each other — and the fiber-line.
Thus, 111 Eighth Avenue has become known as one of the most important so-called telecom carrier hotels on the Eastern seaboard, if not the entire United States.
But of course, Google already knew that, which is why it moved into the building in the first place in 2006. It’s also the reason that companies like Verizon, Sprint, Level 3, WebMD, Nike, BarnesandNoble.com and ad agency Deutsch are tenants.
In a blog post Wednesday, Google announced that it has closed the deal and said it has re-upped with Taconic Management Company to continue running the leasing and management operations of the building
Google said that it now has 2000 employees in New York City, and — no surprise — it’s hiring like crazy, which will just heighten an already red-hot tech labor market in the city.
“We believe that this is a great real estate investment in a thriving neighborhood and a fantastic city,” wrote David Radcliffe, a Google VP for Real Estate and Workplace Services.
Google did not confirm the purchase price, but it has been widely reported, including by the New York Post, which has been all over this story. The city of New York netted $46 million in transaction taxes on the deal.
It’s by far the largest U.S. real estate transaction of 2010. And it’s Google’s biggest purchase of the year.
“Like the city, our New York office is a melting pot of cultures and ideas—it’s home to Googlers from more than 35 countries who speak more than 40 languages,” Radcliffe wrote.
Google is identified closely with Silicon Valley, where it was founded by two Ph.D students in a Stanford dorm room. But judging by today’s purchase, Google clearly loves New York, as well."

On the road to Tequila (its about 60 Km NW of Guadalajara), we stopped at a Jose Cuervo blue agave field for a demonstration of the harvest process.
One of the Jimadors is taking a young blue agave plant to stick into the ground.
Tequila is made from the blue agave, or agave tequilana Weber.
According to WebMD, the core of the plant contains aguamiel or “honey water,” which is used for syrup (and tequila) production.

Why take a bath with Epsom salts?
You pulled a muscle lifting weights at the gym. Or maybe your arthritis is acting up. Is there anything you can do, besides wait it out?
Your grandma could have the answer. Epsom salt has been used for hundreds of years to ease all kinds of aches and pains. A simple soak in the tub may help you feel better.
What Is It?
Despite the name, Epsom salt isn't like the stuff you put on your fries. It's called a salt because of its chemical structure. The "Epsom" part is a place in England where it's found in natural springs.
You can find it in most drugstores, usually around the aspirin and laxatives. Many grocery and natural food stores also carry it. A large box costs just a few dollars.
It's not the same as Dead Sea salts, a blend of minerals found only in the Dead Sea in the Middle East. The water and light there supposedly help skin diseases, arthritis, and other health problems.
Epsom salt is also different from fancy bath crystals. They may not be made from the same chemicals. Plus they often have oils, colors, and perfumes to relax you and soften your skin.
How Does It Work?
In water, it breaks down into magnesium and sulfate. The theory is that when you soak in an Epsom salt bath, these get into your body through your skin. That hasn't been proven, but just soaking in warm water can help relax muscles and loosen stiff joints.
People use Epsom salt baths as a home treatment for:
Arthritis pain and swelling
Bruises and sprains
Fibromyalgia, a condition that makes your muscles, ligaments, and tendons hurt, and causes tender points throughout your body
Ingrown toenails
Insomnia
Psoriasis, a disease that causes red, itchy, scaly skin
Sore muscles after working out
Soreness from diarrhea during chemotherapy
Sunburn pain and redness
Tired, swollen feet
While there are plenty of folk remedy claims, there aren't a lot of studies to back them up. Taking this type of bath probably won't hurt you, but if you have health concerns, check with your doctor first.

Cats' whiskers are a wonder to me. At the thick end they are strong and sharp enough to pierce my skin. At the fine thin end I cannot feel it even when watching it move across my palm or fingertips.
Excerpt from article pets.webmd.com/features/why-cats-whiskers
"Each thick whisker is filled with tiny, supersensitive nerves that help your cat judge distance and space. It’s how she makes decisions like: Is this box too small to get inside? How far do I need to jump to reach that counter? It’s also how she detects what’s around her. Cats that are blind can navigate rooms very well by just walking around and letting their whiskers get a sense of where they are spatially. The follicles -- the sacs that hold the hairs -- are deep, with lots of nerve endings that send messages to the cat’s brain. There’s also a sensory organ at the tip of each whisker. It picks up vibrations in the environment that help the cat sense where she is and what other creatures are around her...."

You all know how much I love my dog Spot. He's our baby... Scott got him when he was a puppy and has been through all our highs and lows. When Spot came into my life, he was a youngster, a "crazy boy" who wasn't even trained to walk on a leash. I remember when he first moved to L.A., I couldn't get him from my car to the front door without a leash on him. I was impressed with myself when I was finally able to trust him and walk him on trails off leash. I was proud of him and myself whenever anyone would comment about how good he is. He always stayed close, always listened, always courteous to other dogs and people, and most of all, safe because I always kept an eye on him. He's a smart boy, expressive with his eyes and responsive to my voice, whistles and commands. Friends have asked us to please please get him cloned. LOL! We would if we could afford it :)
Fast forward a few years, and now he's 13. But honestly, he could be older... Scott isn't really sure what year he got him in, so he could easily be 14 going on 15. If I go back to my Flickr photos, I can see him age, and because I'm perceptive, I noted a few things about him that make sense now, but didn't back then. Because he's my first dog I just thought, "Well, he's getting old..." and shrugged it off as something that old dogs do. However, Spot has been showing signs of cognitive dysfunction... doggy Dementia for some time now, something a little more serious than "just getting old". It's something I never knew happened to dogs. I thought, arthritis, diabetes, and cancer... but Dementia?
Because I spend a tremendous amount of time with him, the first change I noticed in him was back in Feb of this year, when he would rebel against having to leave a trail. It was kind of funny at first, but when you have to go to work and can't spend another hour there, it can be a little frustrating.
In May, he exhibited another odd behavior...he stopped wanting to hang out with us. I remember when we took Wally to that dog beach, that was the first time Spot didn't want to spend his day with us. I even noted how strange I thought it was that he wouldn't get in the car, when getting in the car meant going somewhere fun.
Then came the panting and anxious behavior, then the "I don't hear you".... So no, he's not deaf like I mentioned in an earlier post, it's just one of the signs of dementia in dogs.
Then the most painful one, besides him not wanting to have anything to do with us, sometimes he looks at me as if he forgets who I am. When we come across another pack, he'll go with the other pack and the human has to stop him and redirect him over to me.
And last but not least, he started waking us up from 1 a.m. to 3a.m., in the morning with the pacing and the panting. If I put him outside, he wants in, then once he's in he wants out again.
This week has been very difficult, starting Tuesday when he wandered away from our yard and went inside someone's house. He was chillin' in the living room with the kids who were playing there. (!!!) My neighbor brought him back and left a note saying how Spot went inside her house and how it scared her and made her laugh all at the same time. She finished off the note by saying that he "listens well" and followed her back home. That last tidbit of information made me go, "hmm...I thought he was deaf!!" and "what the hell, he NEVER leaves the yard!! " that was when I started doing my research on Dementia, or CD (cognitive dysfunction).
All the signs by themselves are easily over looked, but when they're exhibited ALL at once like he did this last week, it was certainly enough to cause great concert and act quickly. His off- leash days are sadly over. Other things he's done this week that he's NEVER done before? Jump on the couch, something I trained him not to do 7 years ago. Also, he chewed the screen off my no longer screened door. :-/
On Friday, Spot saw a new vet and he put him on a medication that we had done our research on. I was glad he suggested it as dogs do show positive improvement. We'll be starting him on that medication as soon as it arrives.(Deprenyl, a medication for Parkinson's Disease)
We're changing his dry food too, something his vet suggested and I completely agree with. It's a prescription food that was developed around the time Ronald Reagan's nutritionists were developing a diet to help him with his Alzheimer's Disease. When I pick up that food on Monday, will let you guys know what it is.
Aside from the medication and food, we already started him on glucosamine for his hips and joints, something we should have started him on years ago, but I believe you're never too old to start supplements. He doesn't mind the bacon flavored tablets either :)
A tablespoon of fish oil is added to his dinner. I figure it's good for us, it can't hurt him. He's also going to get B12 shots, as soon as I can get Scott to order them! (grr!)
I'm also upping his exercise. I admit I got lazy on him because he takes so long to get through his walk, but like I said before, now that I know what his issues are and now that I know how to get his focus and attention, I'm going to make the effort to get up super early so I can devote a few hours to his exercise daily, try to get him excited enough to run a little. Blood flow to the brain is essential for older dogs and not to mention, good for us too. :)
Last but not least, a little physical therapy - doggy massages... I figure massages aren't only relaxing, they help move toxins out the body. Today I gave him a 30 minute massage and he LOVED it. It was a great way to spend quality time with him and to help build that bond I feel I've been losing with him. I'm hoping that everything combined will improve his situation. We'll know if he does, and if he continues to worsen, we may have to make some difficult decisions. I'm optimistic though, and I will continue to post updates on his condition. One thing I didn't find on line were stories from people who were going through this with their dogs. Many stories complaining about symptoms, but nothing else. If anything, I hope writing about it will bring awareness to a commonly overlooked condition until it's too late, a lot of times not doing anything until the dog becomes incontinent. Sometimes, by then it's too late... I wish someone had told me about all this, I would have done something about his condition earlier if I would have known what to look for.
Oh, and if you know Robert you know he KNOWS dogs. I'm impressed with how his dogs, even in their elder ages of 14, 15 and 16, look happy and healthy. He has his older dogs on Cholodin, a natural supplement for elderly dogs and from what his dogs look like, Cholodin is a good thing. Robert I know you're reading this, I forgot to ask his vet if I can give him Cholodin with the Deprenyl. If he gives me the green light, I'll start him on that too.
What is Cholodin?
Cholodin is a chewable dietary supplement that helps remedy various conditions in senior dogs. It has been recommended by veterinarians for age-related problems, including fatigue, poor coat, constipation, inappropriate urination, poor appetite, and poor mental performance.
For: Dogs
Benefits:
• Fights many more ailments than most supplements
• Prevents inflammation in the liver and retains optimal liver function
• Restores youthful health for senior dogs
• Contains vitamin B12 (cyanocobalamin), which is important for your dog’s nervous system

OKINAWAN CENTENARIANS DO NOT EAT A DIET BASED ON PORK.
THE WORD "OKINAWA" DOES NOT MEAN "ISLAND OF PORK" IN JAPANESE. THAT IS FALSE.
OKINAWAN CENTENARIANS EAT A DIET THAT IS 98% VEGETARIAN and 96% VEGAN.
OKINAWA'S OLDEST PERSONS EAT A HIGH-CARB LOW-FAT PLANT-BASED DIET.
THE LONGEST LIVED PEOPLE AVOID MEAT AND EAT A DIET BASED ON LARGE VOLUMES OF GRAIN.
SOURCE: "The Diet of the World’s Longest-Lived People and Its Potential Impact on Morbidity and Life Span" JOURNAL: Annals of the Academy of Sciences - Volume 1114: 434–455 (2007).
The Okinawa Longevity diet is plant-based: 98 percent vegetarian and 96 percent vegan. A whopping 85% carbs. Okinawans eat huge amounts of Starch, and Grain. Okinwans eat sugar. Okinawans eat lots of Soy. Okinawans eat lots of potatoes, and rice. The Okinawans eat beans and legumes. The okinawans eat wheat. And are among the longest living people on earth.
Notes: Okinawans Do Not eat tons of pork. Okinawans Do Not eat tons of fish.
The okinawans avoid meat. 99% of the Okinawan diet is NOT PORK. 99% of the Japanese Okinawan diet is NOT FISH. It is Not true that the Japanese Okinawans eat a lot of fish. It is NOT TRUE that Okinawa is "The Island of Pork". It is NOT true that the word Okinawa translates to The Island of Pork--this is an internet hoax that has been traced to an individual named Chris Masterjohn who was found to be part of a health-fraud group called the Weston A. Price Foundation. The actual word Okinawa (??) consists of 2 Kanji characters in Japanese: Oki + Nawa ( ? + ? ). Oki means sea or water ( ? ). Nawa means rope ( ? ). Okinawa therefore actually means: "Rope of the Sea"--referring to the appearance of the 'string of islands that reside in the sea' at the southern part of Japan. These are known as the Ryukyu islands. There is nothing about the islands of pork. Okinawans do not refer to their own island as the island of pork. This is factually incorrect. It was simply concocted by a diet fraud group known as the WAPF, and then spread by those who got false health information from this group. They then spread this false line merely in lay-person "blogs" and simply as social network system or article comments on the internet, which is not scientific. Much of it largely by people advancing a meat-based or low-carber diet plan, and who have never been to Okinawa or Japan or do not speak Japanese. It is fabricated.
It is important to note, these are the actual Food Measurements of the Centenarians, the people who did live up over 100+ years. This is not the diet of ALL okinawan people. These are the ones who lived. Not the ones who died.
There may be okinawans who eat differently. There may be ones that eat more fish, there may be onese that eat more eggs, less sugar, more dairy, or eat more meat or eat more pork. They did not live. They died sooner.
The ones who lived ate what you see above. The Okinawans who lived to be centenarians up over 100+ years of age were eating a 98% Vegetarian plant-based diet. 96% vegan diet. Nearly 70% of which was potatoes, okinawan purple sweet potatoes which contain starches. Rice which is a starch. Grains and wheat, large amounts of Soy, and Tofu, Vegetables, and fruit, and ingested PUFA oils and even a quantity of refined carbohydrates in the form of sugar (composed of both glucose and fructose), and are among the healthiest longest-lived people on earth and are one of the Blue-Zones of longevity. This may be classified actually as an ANTI-PALEO DIET, due to the fact that it consists of grains, including wheat, encourages beans and legumes, is mainly vegetarian, encourages rice, contains hardly any fish, and hardly any bacon or pork, and avoids meat. It is almost the opposite of a paleo diet. This mainly vegetarian plant-based diet results in some of the longest lifespans on the planet.
Regular okinawans may eat differently, and may eat slightly more pork, but die quicker. Those Okinawans who avoided meat, avoided fish, avoided dairy, and avoided eating pork such that all of these items were less than barely 1% of their diet, lived the longest.
The Okinawan centenarian diet is 85% carbs, 09% protein, and 06% fat.
This is a High-Carb, Low-Fat, Low-Protein diet: HC-LF-LP. HCLF. This is NOT a lowcarb diet. This is Not a high-protein diet. Those people who ingested a lowcarb or high protein diet died sooner and had more disease.
The diet that matches most closely to this longest-lifespan diet, is an 80-10-10 plant-based diet.
The Okinawan diet is 98% vegetarian, which includes the eggs and dairy.
The Okinawan diet is 96% vegan, which excludes the eggs and dairy.
The Okinawan diet is barely 1% fish, and is 99% other than fish.
The Okinawan diet is barely 1% pork, and is 99% NOT PORK.
The Okinawans who lived the longest ate more plants and avoided fish, eggs, meat and pork.
Peer reviewed scientific journal studies. Confirmed.

excerpt from the wikipedia entry for Mouse:
Although they may live up to two years in the lab, the average mouse in the wild lives only about 3 months, primarily due to heavy predation. Cats, wild dogs, foxes, birds of prey, snakes and even certain kinds of insects have been known to prey heavily upon mice. Nevertheless, due to its incredible adaptability to almost any environment, and its ability to live commensally with humans, the mouse is regarded to be the third most successful mammalian species living on Earth today, after humans and the rat.
Mice can be harmful pests, damaging and eating crops and spreading diseases through their parasites and feces. In the Western United States, breathing dust that has come in contact with mouse feces has been linked to the deadly hantavirus. The original motivation for the domestication of cats is thought to have been for their predation of mice and their relatives, the rats.
