Victim blaming is any response that explicitly states or implies that the victim is to blame for the abuse they have experienced: victim blaming often revolves around actions that a victim could have taken, or not taken, to avoid experiencing abuse. My observations made it clear that victim blaming also makes part of the blackmail system, using chemical products. Psychology is also an important tool in the submission apparatus:
Severe personality problems find *camouflage.* No one thinks "I'm a sadist" or "I'm a malignant narcissist."
They find a belief system/social group that validates their most hateful, destructive impulses & construes them as virtues.
The most toxic and hateful people in the world are 100% convinced they fight for what is true and right.
For colleagues looking for more theoretical explanation, the psychological processes are splitting, projection & projective identification. Splitting means not recognizing one's own capacity for hate, cruelty, and destructiveness. The person is blind to the bad in themselves.
Instead, they project the badness onto some designated other. And this other person, via the defense of projection, is now seen as the repository of all that is bad and evil and necessary to destroy. That's the projection.
The person now feels fully justified in unleashing
their viciousness and hate on the other person, who is now seen (via projection) as someone monstrous who must be destroyed. If the person who is projected on responds to the provocation with anger, this is now seen as further confirmation of how hateful and destructive they are (this is what is called is "projective identification.") The end result is that the person can deny their own sadism, cruelty, and hate—while simultaneously acting it out without restraint. And feel themselves to be 100% on the side of truth and right as they do it.(Prof Jonathan Shedler)

The idea of a ‘Holy Land’ is a recurring theme in several religions: an idea of a better place that eventually will be reached and a promise that helps to endure the hard conditions of the present moment. In the past decades, Europe has often figured as a Holy Land for Africans faced with war and poverty. Of those that undertook the journey, tragically, many have died at sea before ever reaching the shore. It is estimated that 20,000 refugees have died at sea over the past twenty years, an average of eight people a day. This tragedy is not always present in our consciousness, as their bodies disappear to the bottom of the sea, outside of any nation state.
As part of a historical continuum, North African colonial soldiers have served in the European wars – over 30,000 African soldiers have lost their lives in World War I to protect France from the German invasion – but their descendants were never granted any rights to migrate to Europe, so the idea of Europe as a Holy Land lives on. Kader Attia's installation is a temporary monument that aims to offer a respectful burial to both the drowned refugees and the colonial soldiers, with a series of mirrors in the shape of a Muslim grave or a gothic window, directed towards the sea. As seen from the sea, the mirrors look shiny and attractive, but once approaching it is clear that they merely reflect reality. They embody the gap between fantasy and reality for the migrant, while the visitor, seeing oneself in the mirror, is temporarily included in the story and can get back out again.

Jan Theuninck painted it after a visit to the villa in July 2017. He met Albert Jeanneret, the brother of Le Corbusier, who lived in the villa until 1973, in the village of Finhaut around 1970. Albert Jeanneret was a musician, composer and violinist. He helped developing the Dalcroze Method in Hellerau, Germany. The Dalcroze Method is one of several developmental approaches including the Kodály Method, Orff Schulwerk and Suzuki Method used to teach music to students. When Theuninck met him, he was experimenting with sound recordings of daily life noises which he called "bruits humanisés".

Het zelfportret van 2015 heb Ik geschilderd in Daler-Rowney acrylverf, het blauw en bruin zijn gemengde kleuren. De zwarte romp is een ontwerp, gebruikt bij het portret van Gilbert & George - ooit een abstracte kop, getekend op computer en het origineel gespiegeld, en pas jaren later, in 2013, gezien dat het wat had van Gilbert & George toen ik hen laattijdig ontdekte bij de Herbert Foundation aan de Coupure.
Het blauw van het hoofd symboliseert mijn weelderige haardos, een gezicht is er niet vandaar een witte vlek.. Ik pleeg te zeggen dat ik "niets en niemand" ben (zoals mijn familie het wilde), zo heb ik ook jarenlang het Italiaaanse "uomo senza volto" of "man zonder gezicht" als codenaam gebruikt.
Een wapenschild bij een portret werd vroeger weleens geplaatst bvb bij het portret van Jan Parmentier uit 1627 dat deel uit maakt van de collectie van het Sint-Janshospitaal in Brugge. Mijn heraldisch familiewapen, ook een witte vlek met bruine rand, is een metafoor verwijzend naar familieverhalen uit het verleden met een existentiële impact op het heden.
Portretten schilderen is niet mijn specialiteit maar ik heb mijn eigen portret - vanitas vanitatum - wel laten maken door Koen Pattyn in olie op doek, anno 2013, door Sarah Melloul in acryl op doek, anno 2018 en door Helena Cnockaert in een textielwerk, anno 2019.
